  • Dear friends
I know you’ll say I’ve already featured Happy Garden, but I only featured 12 eateries in my last video, certainly Happy Garden has more to offer. The fact that I returned to do another episode here proved that Happy Garden is indeed a food paradise. I can’t believe it myself that there’s indeed one koptiam that houses all the quality eateries. You have to come and see for yourself and taste the food one by one. Have fun and I’ll see you in the next video. Thank you and please don’t forget to go out and support the local street food scene. Cheers

Elmo I especially loved your intro. One cannot expect what you will talk about but one is always surprised and come away more educated and Informed never the less. I learned so much and sometimes forget that it's a video about food. But don't get me wrong, the food reviews are great too. I wish I can go visit them and eat the food and still keep my weight 😂.
Video production is great and editing is great too. You have enough for a documentary ❤❤❤👋👋👋👍👍👍

Hi ELMO LEE, the video on Cantonese is timely as Cantonese is facing decline as the older generations are aging. Thanks for sharing that informative video to debunk Mandarin as the so-called language of choice for Chinese.
In those days, outside China during the last China Imperial Dynasty, almost all overseas chinese spoke Cantonese as they were the migrants from Southern China. Long before even Mao or Lee Kuan Yew made it compulsory and mandatory to speak and learn Mandarin as a tool to "control" the chinese people.
Mandarin is still a young language, it only gain prominence and relevance because mainland China and the CCP world status position
Keep up the good work of introducing some historical background in every of your video
Thanks and have a good happy weekend

Kokan kopitiam …. That kopitiam has almost all the local favorites to satisfy the locals taste buds indeed. Very interesting and most of the stalls there meets the standards and exceed expectations too on what they have to offer. It’s almost like ….. you name THAT delicacy and they have THAT there for you to savor. Kokan really makes the people at Happy Garden happy ever after with such offerings - Yatt Lau 👍🏽 & Mou Tak Deng 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽!!! One suggestion is that instead of taking the entire video for the ‘Cantonese dialect history’ - it may be better if Elmo summarises the video with Elmo’s own words (and spoken in Elmo’s voice and tone )as it can be more authentic and interesting. Overall - THAT Kokan kopitiam is a great place to satisfy anyone’s hunger pangs- surely. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

All the food looks good and tasty. Yong tau foo with delicious sauce. The most memorable similar kind of YTF I have eaten was in Johor Jaya (selling from a mobile truck) years ago. Then I had it once in Pasir Pemambang kopitam (uncle selling from a motorcycle), Kuala Selangor also years ago. Unable to find this kind of YTF in Penang. Now I know where to go to for my next trip to PJ/KL. Thank you Elmo.

The history lessons/introduction at the beginning of every one of your videos is always vey enlightening! 5/5 for the effort you put into researching the info!
My father is khek, my mum is Cantonese. I can’t speak Hakka, Cantonese a bit but not fluent like you. The sad reality of today’s generation is, they’ve been taught that Mandarin is the language and Cantonese is a dialect by teachers who are either ignorant or who’re conversant in mandarin but not Cantonese so they’re trying to ensure more mandarin speakers than Cantonese. Cantonese speakers are slowly but surely diminishing, sadly.
That Kokan kopitiam looks interesting, I’ll definitely check it out one of these days. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I noticed the same too -- Cantonese slowly diminishing. Back in the 90s, early noughties, the Chinese in KL spoke Cantonese mainly, even those from other states would learn to speak.
Nowadays most speak in Mandarin, even those born and raised in KL.
I wonder if KL would still be a Canto-speaking city in future

Only mainland Chinese speak Mandarin as this is the only language they know how to speak. It's China education system that teaches only Mandarin. To say that just because Mandarin is the "OFFICIAL" language implies that MANDARIN is the language of the Chinese is purely fallacy and unsubstantiated
Cantonese predates all languages spoken in CHINA

@@yummemys4608where did you get such "FACT" ? Don't just parrot misinformation and unhealthy propaganda.
If the British wants to eliminate the HONGKIES, they should have "FORCED" everyone to learn ENGLISH .... It's the ancient QING DYNASTY and the COMMUNIST PARTY OF CHINA that are the culprits that FORCED mainlanders and now the HONGKIES to speak MANDARIN

It is now very popular to speak Mandarin in our island country. It is convenient and reasonable for Chinese people to speak Chinese. I am from Canton. I am not oppised to speaking Cantonese. but I am not opposed to speaking Mandarin. Please don.t treat language as a political game. 🇲🇾 🤝 🇸🇬 🙏 .

No one here ( 🇲🇾🤝🇸🇬 ?? 🤔) treating language as a political game.... It's just info!!
And yes, Mandarin is one of the main languages in SG and not only NOW popular but has been in use for decades.
I spoke Cantonese with many locals but I also spoke Mandarin with others.

@@ykmak2415 Alamak, didn't be so KIASU about Mandarin in a food blog. Elmo Lee reposted the video on Cantonese as a satire, NOT try to provoke or gain any political mileage. It's a plain fact that CANTONESE was the language of the HANS before the advent of MANDARIN to replace Cantonese. SINGAPOREANS speak Mandarin because it's your own country education policy, and nothing to do with the Chinese cultural heritage or traditions.
Btw, you need to be aware that there's NO such thing as CHINESE LANGUAGE, unless in a colloquially speaking. China history dates back so far behind that there's NO definitive HISTORY of CHINA, unlike other ancient civilizations
