Was reading the Mossberg instructions but your video was so much more clear then those. Thanks. Had it assembled in a few minutes. Too easy. Great video.
Considering this as my first shotgun. I see two styles available at my local sporting goods store. The one you feature, is it the "All-purpose" or "security" model?
Probably more similar to the all purpose. I started with a very base model and built from that. It is certainly more cost effective to buy the security model, but my build was done more for fun and demonstration than practicality.
I just bought this as my first gun. Super helpful, but when I tried to use the choke key to take it out, it won't work. I ended up scratching the choke
My Mossberg Maverick 88's packaging did not include a choke key. I purchased online from GunBuyer.com. I looked into the barrel before assembling and did not notice anything that could be removed. I removed the wooden stick from magazine, left the rubbers attached and placed back in the box for. Do you believe Mossberg Maverick 88's are alway shipped with "Accu-choke" installed? Or is it ever possible that it could be shipped without? Please let me know. Thank you.
Hi Omar - if your variant of the Maverick has a “Cylinder Bore Choke” then it will not be removable. It is the widest possible choke and some variants of the Maverick are shipped with that style barrel. The removable choke would have two very small notches about 1/8th of an inch wide and deep opposite each other visible on the inside of the end of the barrel. It’s possible that a variation might not have a removable choke, but if your firearm is not listed as a cylinder bore choke, to verify I would contact Mossberg directly and ask.
I read the summary page and you hit the nail on the head! It states..."Maverick 31023 88 Pump Security/Special Purpose 12 ga 18.5" 3" 5+1 Syn Stk Blk These 88 Special Purpose Security models have a 3" chamber, and either an 18.5" or 20" blued barrel with a fixed cylinder bore and a brass front sight bead barrel set in a rugged black synthetic stock with a ribbed forearm. Thanks a lot! I look forward to more video from you. ?Great quality and sound.
@@nyager2 Hi nick thanks for replying. It is the 28". I took it into local gun shop -- i had missed the 'notches' when I was using the key which is why it kept spinning. The gunshop guy took it out and put it back in for me as well as reseated the barrel since I didn't do a very good job.
Here is a good thread on slugs. Short answer - yes. mossbergowners.com/forum/index.php?threads/can-i-shoot-magnum-shotgun-slugs-with-my-maverick-88.10792/
@@radiofreenewhampshire644 man read it, they are saying it is better not to shoot with it full choke? What does that mean? And then they say you can if you use the improved cylinder? Can you please elaborate...
@@nicolasfarah2092 the choke is the device that modifies the disbursement pattern on the business end of the shotgun barrel. An adjustable choke would allow you to make adjustments to the pattern, either restricting it so that it is small and focused or expanding it for a wider area of coverage. At “full choke” there is more restriction, and I believe that the thought is that full choke might impede the slug enough to either wear down the choke itself or even damage the choke or barrel. You can probably remove the choke altogether and replace it with a non-restricted choke, remove the choke and not replace it at all (although the is may be unwise as the threads that are used for the choke would likely be damaged) or open the adjustable choke to full open and fire slugs safely.
Is it the fore grip or the dowel inside the magazine? If it's the fore grip, no it should not rattle. The wooden dowel will definitely rattle and can easily be removed if you wish to remove it (as most do).
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought my first pump shotgun and it is the Maverick 88. This video was extremely helpful.
Same here !

This is my first gun and this video was very helpful and easy to understand
You did like a ROFESSIONAL. Thank you!
You're the man! Idk why i couldn't figure this out on my own
Haven’t really cleaned mine yet out the box works just fine
Seems to be a very reliable platform.
Mine is defective. Sparks flew out of the breech when i fired the first round and then i had trouble cycling a new round. POS gun
Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you kindly for have a great instructor video. I look forward too see more new videos to come.💪🏼
You are my life saver!
So....a small space or gap between the takedown screw and magazine tube is normal? Haven't put rounds through it yet...just wondering
Should you be able to dry fire? Because I could not .. thanks for your coming answer
Mechanically you should be able to. Make sure you cock the weapon to allow it to dry fire.
@@radiofreenewhampshire644 got it .. thanks !!
Thank you ! The directions were not helpful but you were!!
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your comment and I wish you the best of luck with the Maverick 88!
Can i shoot regular slugs with the provided choke?
Nicely done. Waiting for ours to arrive.

I am having the same issue right now, did u happen to find out why?
@@joseluissalamando7763 Nope :/
i couldn't get the wooden stick out / seems there isn't one? I have the 18.5" version, so it looks different than yours
Do I need to keep my dowel inside the gun while I’m hunting?

My security model did not have it.
I don't have choke key either and didn't have that rubber stick either in the magazine bought from canada store
is that a maverick 88 20 gauge youth?
I put the barrel in but now I can’t take it off
What would happen if i dry fired without the barrel attached? Is the Gun still in good shape?
I wouldn’t do it on a regular basis, but once accidentally and you shouldn’t have an issue. Always best to use a dummy round designed for dry firing.
@@radiofreenewhampshire644 thank you for the tip.
Hi mine didn’t have a choke in it. What does that mean?
Is it threaded for a choke but came without one? A shorter barrel is likely to not have a choke.

5 plus 1 in the chamber
