My girlfriend was born intersex and didn't realize there was a word for it until recently after doing a ton of research. It's so cool to see how people are finally talking about it!

I remember the Oprah episode blowing my mind, I had never heard of being intersex before and I found the non-consensual surgeries performed on intersex children incredibly disturbing. This was such an informative video!
It's also anti bible! Matthew 18:6/ Luke 17:2 and the millstone vs messing w little ones! DONT DO IT becuase it's better for a millstone to be hung about your neck and be cast into the sea than corrupting the little ones!
Spoiler: intersex doesn't exist, is just a genetic disorder ans that's all stop put a tags on everything
@@manuelzumbo3973 it does exist though.
@@manuelzumbo3973 That's like saying people born with Down Syndrome don't exist... embarassssssinggggggg
@@ToyCircle ?? Bruh? What you said is so dumb lol, never said people with genetic problems doesn't exist, read what the other say before saying random things, the intersex thing is like make a gender for people with the down syndrome, it's a genetic distinction it isn't a gender lol
What a wonderful introduction/history. This is very accurate and as of today very compete too. I was born in 1957, intersex with ambiguous genitals before surgical mutilations and forced gender assignments were done. I've been an educator and advocate for us since the internet let me start to find other intersex people in the early 90's.

I was introduced to the intersex community through a YA book called “none of the above” written by a doctor, and it’s one of my favorite books
why do people feel the need to "fix" intersex people, why can't you just let them be
Because they think that it's a 3rd gender.
@@Shishani011 it IS a 3rd gender tho. My question is why do people think it needs to be fixed? Didn't God create everyone INCLUDING intersex people?
@@mk007__ THANK YOU. SOMEBODY WHO'S EDUCATED! I REALLY MET THIS GUY EARLIER WHO SAID "you're born as whatever is between your legs. Nonbinary and trans and intersex people shouldn't be a thing." AND IT REALLY PISSED ME OFF
@@kennymccormick4428 so much ignorance. I bet they didn't even watch the video bc intersex people have literally both parts so their point is invalid
@@mk007__ sometimes surgery is a medical requirement
House also has a terrible episode on asexuality as well; for being a show on medical topics, they've gotten a bit too much wrong for comfort
Not an excuse, however: Topics that are beginning to diversify, such as sexuality and gender, are becoming fairly new. They're usually treated with incorrectness because there's less if a medical example to go off on.
It doesn't mean the show or any actual doctor has to be lazy, but it does make sense.
Times are changing. Slowly but surely.
@@GayDracula_ you're absolutely right, but it's still frustrating because Q= people and other misrepresented groups have to deal with the effects of misinformation in mainstream media.
@@jackcrowley2640 Oh of course. I know that. I'm basically a victim of misrepresentation/misinformation lmao. I think it's super easy to find information or interview people...but no one wants to do that for some odd reason? Like, they have the money and time to write any marginalized group correctly. Why dont people do so?
@@GayDracula_ It was such a large TV show, I'm sure they had the money and the resources to take a week and make sure they got the info right. Smh I guess they're just too lazy
@Jimmy Graham I'd like to think on a conversation about the misinformation and how it affects people, someone would bring up being affected by it.
Not really bragging about being a victim.
This channel is pretty cool and very educating but for people who not have English as a first language maybe could you add English subtitle please? It would be great and very helpful:)))

As asian who grow up in asia, i can confirm. Also there are lots of words in this video that are new to me so I'm still stuck in confusion but I'm assuming intersex people are people who were born as non binary? Pls god correct if I'm wrong

I am so happy to be seeing and hearing this become more and more a topic of discussion! We need to talk to assemble to learn and adapt and make effective change!!
Hey! Did you guys happen to keep a list of sources? Not doubting anything I swear 😅I'm working on a research assignment and this is some awesome info!

I love these videos and I get this was focused on western society but it'd be really cool to compare the way our society has been treating intersex people to how other cultures perceive and integrate them in their reality. I don't know anything about this topic in specific but there are a lot of cultures that tend to be inclusive regarding things our society is just now realizing
That would be an amazing topic. I am an Indian, and over here the Hinjra community is inclusive of several kinds of gender non-conforming groups including intersex people.
@@oof-rr5nf I have found through personal experience and continuing to learn even more about all cultures and traditions throughout the our planet, that it seems to me the Indian culture and it’s spiritual and/or traditional religious practices are in so many ways (including and especially like this one with gender) SO MUCH more open to the acceptance of a being as more of a physical manifestation of a spiritual being, in some ways if you get what I am (not really greatly lol) trying to say!!!!! I find it really interesting and personally a very peaceful and anxiety-lessening way of viewing all and each of us in our lives on the planet in each moment that we are present. If that makes any sense? It’s the idea that (similar to what C.S. Lewis articulated in terms of Christianity) that you are not a body with a soul- you are a soul, with a body. It seems to really encompass the idea of embracing and loving everyone as they are inherently without even having to specifically say it or try to define that concept in more specific limiting terms :) 💕💕
@@lovelyjanuary Um no. India treats the Hijra as absolute garbage, even before the brits ruined everything. It’s just homophobia, in some cases intersex discrimination, in some other cases transphobia, and general misandry. “Oh this boy doesn’t act like other boys. Put female garb on him”. Stop pretending it’s something nice.
It would be great if some of the sources mentioned were linked in the description. Loved the video.
Wow, that was very informative. I didn’t know almost any of this before the video. Thank you.
Thank you for this! I'm learning so much.
(Please look into adding proper captioning too, the auto-generated ones are not great :( )
I read "Middlesex" in either middle or high school. I can see why many intersex people wouldn't want that book to represent them. But as someone who wasn't even aware of intersex people before, I'm still glad that I read it.
In case any of you are interested, there's a Japanese TV drama with intersex main characters. It's called "IS: Otoko demo Onna demo nai Sei" ( IS~男でも女でもない性~)
Wow! Thank you. This was very, very helpful.
5:50 It is not clear in the episode (“The Softer Side”) that Jackson would identify as a girl. He says he is attracted to boys and likes dance, but these are pretty shallow terms. “Skin Deep” is a much more egregious example of Intersex misinformation.
Thank you. Knowledge is powerful.
Well done. Very informative. Thank you!
Great video for anyone seeking to understand intersex people! Thank you!
Thank-you for The knowledge to pass on and the incredible support That you give. Ignorance maybe a harsh word but I feel that hatred and other views can be based on knowing nothing about what they it is they may hate or fear or have any other misconception about. [ I hope that I am making sense]

Wow I learnt so much I had no idea about
By body looks female and Male all at once so does my features. Face wise too. I have a "tom boy" voice. I dont sound overly female nor Male either. Just in between. I have muscular legs naturally. My waist anatomy is wider. I dont have breast tissue. My traps are bigger and wider and so are my shoulders. I have a large protruding pubic bone. And my genatalia is larger.
I've always thought my own body never looked fully male...or female. My face is way more feminine and causes.me to be judged, and my body is not fully male. I'm long torso'd, and wider hips and butt then most cisgendered men....but then a horribly deep voice that throws it all off and attracts stares. Aha so I'm right there with you. Stay strong.
A simple genetic test will show if you are intersex.

Maybe the distinction isn't that important but Hermaphroditus was less a mythical creature and more a deity. They were a later variant of Aphroditus, an intersex form of the goddess Aphrodite.

How does this happen though like is there a way to prevent this or predict it
I want to learn more
I got that I have a lot of male hormones, but doctors never told me if I was intersex or not(still the same today) and I have hair in areas that are not normally seen in females.
I mean it's possible. Same for me, I have PCOS and they didn't mention it was intersex. If you'd like you should ask about a hormone check and if they can check your chromosomes to see if you are intersex.
Where exactly are you growing hair that your not supposed to

Any nonconsensual surgery is just horrible, no matter who it is done on.
Well done! Two longtime friends are intersex, and found one another via meet-up groups...they both underwent the kind of medical 'treatment' which Dr. John Money espoused (translation: promoted to make a commercial reputation). I'm delighted to see intersex people speaking up for themselves, and claiming their rightful place in modern culture.
This video should be called The History of Intersex instead.
The best of both worlds
Cheers to algorithms. That Oprah ep you partially bash brought me here. Thank you for breaking it down more than that show. I never knew and am trying to learn

Why do you say "the letter red" at 4:34?
Who is the presenter of this video?
Hooray!
I found out later on..
Mooney was also to have found to have doctored the results of his studies, in an attempt to force a conclusion.
It later came out that he had gender dysphoria.
Which completely brings a lot of this into question. As even today, most of the people who run studies have vested interests in opening a potential multi-billion dollar industry.
Always look into things yourself.
Intersex just means you can use both bathrooms.
Lol I love this comment
Wait can you explain
U play to much 🤣🤣
It does not. Not all intersex people have both male and female anatomy. This video is clearly wasted on you.
Do people get to wear whatever they come with at them.? Or is the clothing chosen by a stylist or someone like that?
my friend Sadako is an example
At 3:00, she doesn’t mention the man later committed suicide at a young age.
the video highlights the info about his suicide in the text following. at 3:07.
George Mott true, but That’s screen text went by fast, but thank you for pointing that out.
This is a great video, so forgive me for nitpicking, but didn't Middlesex win a Pulitzer? The vid claims "mixed results" but I've read nothing but acclaim for the book, and I don't quite see how it's problematic either. But if anyone disagrees, by all means, sound off. I'm genuinely curious.
I don't know if I am intersex but my parents Identify me as a girl and my friend Identify me as girl and also my relatives too and I'm 15years old now I act like a boy I dressed like a boy but I don't have Breast, No period I did some research today and I'm really getting emotional Today 😭 I don't know I'm very confused I don't want to consult to the doctor and tell what I actually really Im male or female I'm scared I'm scared to get judge Im scared to lost friends I'm scared to remove my Identity and my backgrounds I'm really scared 😭😭 please give me advice I don't know what to do... 😭😭
this sounds like non binary. Non binary is where you identify as neither a boy or a girl, while intersex is a biological term where you’re born with both male and female reproductive organs
This gender isn’t apart of the lgbtq, it’s something kids are actually born with. People who are born like this might get surgery when they’re older.

To have a disorder does not require a treatment to be needed or available. Though it does sound pretty rude to use that term in polite conversation. Should maybe be left to the doctors. But then a medical show will use the term. and voila, millions of people will now do so as well. >_> Hmmm.
