I am so glad you posted this. While I am off a high handicap, I have always been able to hit flop shots. What I struggle with around the greens is a bump and run. No matter how much I practice I always doubt myself when I'm about using it.
By posting this vid, you are providing me with some instruction on how to achieve a similar result, short put, without having to play the bump and run. Thank you!

Great video. I've struggled with my chipping for years. Second time on the course using this method and my chipping has improved 10 fold. So much so I was 4 holes up against my friend Steve (who usually beats me) after only 9 holes. My new found short game broke him!
I've watched loads of chipping videos but this one is so simple and just works, any time I miss a green now I have the confidence to chip close. Thank you 👍

By far the most consistent method, this is so good! Thank you very much! It reduced my score by 5 strokes the last round I played. Chip and slide, awesome! I think rotate and slide , very similar. The slide always forward in the direction of where I want to land the ball (left , right or at the flag).

  • @mikeknox1812
    @mikeknox1812 3 года назад

I discovered this method by accident several years ago when I was struggling with chipping the traditional way. I tried the basic concept of a small version of a sand shot. Open the club face, weight on the front side, and slide the club under the ball which produced a higher shot that stopped within 5 to 10 feet of the hole depending on how hard I chipped. Now I have learned to open the club face just a little and do the same thing. I even use this method from 40 yards in and use a little more club to make it go further.

This is great stuff, Matt. I have a strong short game, and the one swing thought that my coach taught me that has always worked from this set-up, is "Show the face to the target." which is really keep the leading edge square through impact. This guarantees you glide the leading edge through and no chunks, ever.

This is exactly what I do if I can't bump and run. My feeling is keeping the club shallow and holding the face open through and after impact. I find this gives me a more consistent strike on the ball. If I want to throw the ball a little higher, I feel as though I'm pulling my hands towards my left hip on impact (Got this from watching a video of Tiger playing out of a bunker).
    Love the video Matt :-)

02:40 Here is the key for me--and also huge tip in the sand--"open the face a touch" I've been doing that, but after I take the usual square
grip on the club, in other words, I have been turning my wrists to open the face. The club (for me anyway) HAS TO BE SET IN A SLIGHTLY OPEN
ATTITUDE, THEN GRIP, then make the swing. Mr. Short Game, please weigh in here on this point, if you can. And thank you for your service !!

This should really help some folks. I recently had the "chippy yips" and it was largely down to anxiety about the results causing me to stab and dig at the ball. Thinking about sliding the sole of the club across the turf with soft hands rather than tense, not "hitting the ball", worked absolute miracles...

I just got back into the game after 10 years. I found the game returned very quickly but I suffered the worst chipping yips you could imagine. I did play off 5 but currently off 10 mostly thanks to the chipping yips.
I found that no matter how sound my technique is, mentally I just couldn't play the shots. I even got to the point of missing the ball with a 15 yard chip, it got that bad.
Anyway I found that rotating the body and keeping my arms and especially the wrists firm has really helped. I have now managed to take the fear out of my short game and I always tell myself that chipping is easy.

I tried this method and it really worked. This had been the weakest part of my game. Thanks!

I started to open the face just before the Covid19 and it helped me a lot in terms of confidence (afraid it will roll too much) and to be more aggressive

Ok I have been having a lot of trouble with my chipping(mainly because I’ve only been playing for about 3 months) and I used the tips in this video and within an hour and chipping has become the best part of my game

Thanks Matt for this outstanding video. How to control the distance for this kind of chipping. Hope to get your video too. Thanks a million.

Not sure if you mentioned but this is how you get backspin. If you just hit it like a 9 iron it will roll over the green. That sweep or slide is what spins the ball backward so it stops sooner. I was practicing this and this is a very delicate procedure. You have to sweep it pretty hard to get any kind of distance but if you don't sweep under it perfectly and hit the ball any kind of way rather than slide under it it will fly away. But if you don't slide it pretty hard it will only go one foot. Very delicate maneuver.
