Not gonna ever be the same. It’s the way , the smells of JA. The soul , the earth the ,air . Lord the beautiful people. This cannot be transported ,never duplicated.❤️🇯🇲
Wow!! That's the neighborhood I grew up in. Moved there from JA in '86 and left in 2003. Jamaica Grocery & Spices along with Sango was there from early days. I think that neighborhood still has the largest concentration of Jamaicans and West Indians in the whole South Dade. That corner of Colonial and US-1 has always been a one stop shop for everything Jamaican since the mid 80's. Besides the grocery store and restaurants, there was Marie's Patties (best in Miami), Aquarius Record shop from Halfway Tree, Jamaican hair salon, doctor's office, and even a Jamaican run laundromat and dry cleaner. Man this brought back a lot of memories. Thanks bro!!
Loved bulgar in porridge and steamed like rice.I got used to it from school lunches back n the days. As an older adult I embrace it. It’s nutritious and tasty.
👀👀🇯🇲mathew has a mini Hilo a run ❤😂🎉……as much as we Jamaicans cuss the local brands, we can’t do without them ….Bigup grace , Mr.lees pepper shrimps , st Mary banana chips , lunch chocolate 🍫 bars 😂❤…..nuff hungry belly them full 😂😅🎉
Bulgar porridge is my favorite, I use to go to our helpers house when I was little that’s where I discovered chicken backs, curried and brown stew😋❤🇯🇲🇺🇸
Older folks will know of bulgar in the sixties when getting school lunch it was bulgar dumplings and bulgar rice it almost disappeared in the seventies
SOAI you are soooo correct and on point! When purchasing saltfish you must read and ensure it states Salted Cod Fish and not Salted Haddock Fish.. the haddock has a high tendency to fall apart when attempting to remove the salt. I enjoy all your vlogs and travels do stay true to your style 🎉blessings and favor follow you always. ❤
This store has been around for a very long time and never disappoint. I have been going here since their parents were alive. Dad used to give you the best piece of yam. If it in season you can get it. Dawn and Andrea are very good at selling you a nice piece of dry yam. Over the years they have groomed Matthew to do the same. You can get fresh callaloo each week and if you want it cut up they have it too. They are so very personable and they know their customers voice when you call even before caller ID. On the weekend they have potato or cornmeal pudding. It is good to know we have a place to go and shop to get the comforts of home even it they carry the stuff across the street. This store has done a great job in supplying our needs over decades. It is so good to see Jamaica Grocery and Spices being featured to the world.
I just realized I did not say a special THANK YOU!! Thank you for all you do to show our little island with a big heart. Blessings and safety as you travel@@SOAIVLOGS
Now that Wode Maya is in Jamaica you are away but it is all good he is well taken care of and your friend is also helping as well but you have to do you at times.Enjoy yourself stay safe and be blessed
Hey Steven haven't got to time to watch u in a while,so busy but I am happy to tune in as usual, where are u now and where are u going, respect from Florida
There are different kinds of salted fish in the USA. The two most popular with Jamaicans in the USA are salted codfish and salted pollack. Now in Jamaica years ago before the 1980s your salted fish was mostly the codfish but it started to get very expensive and a switch was made to pollack which almost has the same taste and flakiness but was much cheaper. As a supermarket manager when I lived there we packaged out the pollack and just called it salted fish. A little history for you salted codfish, mackerel, pig’s tail and oxtail used to be the poor man’s food back in the day including slavery but not anymore with oxtail and codfish so expensive now.
What I meant was that lasco basically blossomed that product trend in ‘Jamaica’ on a large scale. We know Jamaica is third world so most technologies will begin elsewhere then we can obtain them too
That is how every country works traid buying and selling things to each other paying for people's exports so when Jamaica sends exports to other countries Jamaica get money for it.
Where is Gillian I haven’t seen her with you I know you’re travelling but I think you are back in Jamaica? I remember one point you said she was away but I saw African Tiger and she was in her video I think
Do u bring up honey? I know u rear bees in case u do I'd support. Am in S FL. Before u were born US used to give milk powder, bulgar, oats, wheat flour to schools n moms w/small kids up to 5 yrs. That was the best milk powder even to now I've never seen 1 close to it in US. It was like goat's milk.
In England it was the Asian people who sold Jamaican food and it was very very expensive I bet They did not pay the right money to Jamaica for there exports I'm sure of that. But we had to pay a lot of money for Jamaican food believe me
The owner of the grocery store stated the name and even gave the address. You might have not recognized it because it seemed like he was saying Jamaica Groceries but it’s the name 🤣.
