Kingston is more like Brooklyn, NYC. It has beautiful high end areas that are surrounded with stunning mountain views. You can visit Kingston and never go to the poor areas. Kingston is safer than Brooklyn, NYC. It is one of my favorite places on the island. I feel safer in Kingston than I did in NYC and Boston. Kingston has a lot of great restaurants and cafes and gives you a real Jamaican experience.
Many people in Jamaica including Kingston leave their apartment doors wide open until they go to sleep at night.

I just came back a month ago. I stayed in Blue Mountain….Im a born Jamaican, living in Canada. The European dude isn’t wrong about Kingston. It’s more city vibes, but there’s some beautiful places there as well. I’m not a tourist in my own country, so I avoid tourists are, hotels. I stay in an Airbnb with other guests who are very nice and friendly. It’s my home and I have family and friends, so I just get to go about and explore, and learn about my country….the history is very deep and rich.

@@PoJoTheBackPacker😁😁😁😁😁 you should be more prepared before you go anywhere. Act like you know where you are going. Oh lawd you did all the wrong things. Never sit in the front of a transportation in Jamaica.
You're lucky because it's a tourist area they don't kidnapped you. You can't be so foreign in Jamaica. Down town Kingston is a whole vibe that you have to not stick out so much.
It's scary watching you. Never take taxis in Jamaica by your self. As a woman I move around Jamaica freely without problems but you have to know how to just be Jamaican.

    • @PoJoTheBackPacker

@@eileenwatt8283 if you’re worried about my safety in this video i suggest you don’t watch my other ones. I respect people but i don’t let everyone dictate where i can and can’t go. You know it’s funny only from JAMAICANS am i being told “you’re going to get kidnapped, robbed, shot, stabbed…” but yet all I’ve encounter (morning day and night) is good hospitable people.. and I’ve already been to the areas i was ohhhh son wanted about not to go to. But then again maybe that’s a blessing about being a foreigner I’m able to go into these places with no problem where as you.. i don’t think you can.. it’s tragic but there’s so many sides to Jamaica and Kingston you local Jamaicans will never experience… so you can stay for the journey and watch me explore your beautiful country.. or you don’t have to watch anymore. Maybe we should stop painting Jamaica in a bad light and try to bring a little positivity to the island. I’ve never had so many people that DONT live in their own country trying to tell me where and what to do in the country they left from. lol it’s blasphemy. Just watch my videos and and appreciate them lol

😂 i have an interesting video later in the series about my experience with Jamaican customer service… GENERALLY I’ve had excellent service to be 100% honest with you. But three times i went to a store i did not have good service. I was told even local
Jamaicans deal with not the best customer service. Me coming from America i do not feel entitled, and i don’t expect everyone to be nice. But a small amount of decency would be okay 😂 some of these places made me feel like i was in the wrong for ordering a simple meal. But i didn’t let it affect me at all because i am an easy going person👌🏽💪🏽

I live half time in Jamaica & love the island. It is different living vs traveling thru. I always stay overnight coming & going in MoBay. I live in St Ann Paris now up in the hills above Ocho Rios. I previously lived in St. Elizabeth Treasure Beach. MoBay & Kingston are cities. The real beauty is really off the beaten path in the country. Oh it's Doctor Cave not Cove but Cove is a better name. Maybe there once limestone caves there.... & did real good walking all around to main parts of MoBay....

I also try to be as honest as i can be, that means even if i don’t like the food or the area I’m in but i will never judge in a bad way. I’ve met a few content creators who just lie about everything in their video even if they don’t like something about the country just to please their audience. I can promise you won’t get that from me I’m very honest and respectful. Thank you for the comment 👌🏽

Hey, first time seeing ur video. I usually watch backpacking Simon. The beach name is doctors cave beach n not dr cove. The taxi is right about Jamaican like to follows American ways since it’s so close and many Jamaicans live in the USA. Even the real estate price cost ad much as America’s price and even more. Nice Video. As a Jamaican who left the Island a while back and do go back occasionally, I would be cautious traveling around, but in general you should be safe. The same way you acted in Belize you should do in Jamaica, no differently. If you check out a couple other RUclipsrs who have been in Kingston who go into the ghettos and other parts of the Island and are safe, you can check out female Kenyan, Dee M'Wango; Aussie, Bless up Jess, Israeli, Coco Girl, etc. You can get an idea of how they find the Kingston Ghettos and travelling in KGN.

@Po'jo the backpacker, Hey Bro. Like how you are respectfully covering Jamaica. Have you considered renting a car in Jamaica. It's not as bad as it seems. Treasure beach (St Elizabeth) is a rarely visited spot in the Island by RUclipsrs. It's one of the coolest part of the island in my opinion. While you are there you can try out Lovers Leap, Appleton Rum Estate, Black River, Pelican bar, rated one of the coolest bars in the world. you have to take a boat to get there and YS falls. I would also suggest you take the Kuutsford Express when traveling. not Expensive and a lot more comfortable. Be prepared for Kingston, It's very much a city. The areas closer to the hills is called uptown, that's where middle class and wealthy Jamaicans stay, Downtown is more local shopping and is fun but be careful when navigating. It's a hit and miss with filming. People don't really care much for it. Stay out of politics. We, Jamaicans are very kind but also very patriotic. Portland is considered by many to be the most beautiful part of Jamaica. Also check out Negril.

KfC in Jamaica is own by a Jamaican family. The chicken is local and prepared to the Jamaican pallet. McDonalds didn't do well in Jamaica. Some had to close up.
We cook jerk chicken at home and KFC is a treat. We don't eat it 7 days per week.
Also KFC because it's an established company is not likely to cause food poisoning.

Been there a few times..overall I felt safe.....you just have to be assertive with the aggressive vendors (they'll definitely try to pull you into their over-priced tourist shops or sell you weed). Outside of that...just try and avoid the less beaten path without going with locals but outside of that in MoBay..touristy areas are good, there's nice shopping areas and stuff as well. Not a big fan of walking in the the downtown area (the city) but everyone is just minding their own business and going about their day. Be careful at night. Been there twice in the past two years and want to go back again.
EDIT: Forgot to talk about the conversion rate. Keep that in your head at all times..if something seems too expensive, negotiate it. To be honest, it's not really my thing and nothing has felt overly expensive except for the tourist shops (which I mentioned above). I don't care too much for that so I wanted to avoid it but my wife went in..they charged her $45 for a dress (which you'd buy anywhere else for 15-20) and then you leave and the next store owner wants to pull you into their store for the same overpriced items. Be assertive with them and you'll be good.

Let me clarify what happened at @ 2:40 with the taxi man and getting a taxi. He was told he could get a taxi for JAD $200. This is local route taxi fare. The fare from the airport to downtown Montego Bay is $140. Do proper research on how to get one. The Route taxis will passed by the curb. They have red plates and the route is labelled on the doors. You need to flag one down. What you grabbed for $20 USD was the tourist taxis.
