The taxi driver is wrong about the kfc being the most profitable, when I looked it up that title actually went to the only KFC in the Caribbean to gain that title on another island back in the yr 2000,I won’t mention the name of that island but I believe it’sa 24hr wlk in restaurant that only closes on Christmas Day and the famous KFC Zinger sandwich was also invented on that very same island in 1984
Check out Rick's Cafe in Negril. Also, check out Dunn's river falls, blue lagoon, Luminous Lagoon Glistening Waters, firewater mineral healing spring, the blue hole, reach falls, somerset falls and also take a hike to the bule mountain.
They privatize the beaches, so locals aren't allowed on those beach, which is a problem, which many jamaicans are opposed of. So the foreigners buy out those beaches, but the local beaches are different
I was aware and i wanted to avoid the paid beach but at the same time i want to show what Ocho Rios offers. But i did go to harmony park that had a beautiful free beach as well. But you are right!
Nice Video. As a Jamaican who left the Island a while back and do go back occasionally, I would be cautious traveling around, but in general you should be safe. The same way you acted in Belize you should do in Jamaica, no differently. If you check out a couple other RUclipsrs who have been in Kingston who go into the ghettos and other parts of the Island and are safe, you can check out female Kenyan, Dee M'Wango; Aussie, Bless up Jess, Israeli, Coco Girl, etc. You can get an idea of how they find the Kingston Ghettos and travelling in KGN.
I am Jamaican living in the US and when I go back and they see me and the prices triple, they don’t care once you look like a foreigner and it’s crazy. I hate that about my country but not for everything though. Uber in the states is not cheap so $20 is not bad my guys be realistic now.
Yea well $20 was kind of bad considering i could have actually walked from the airport to my room if i had one bag and if i REALLY wanted to do that. Also i paid for a route taxi back and it was $200 Jamaican so in my opinion $20 was bad especially because it was literally a 6 minute drive
Just found your channel and we absolutely love it.... we made it into a drinking game.... every time you touch your glasses we have to drink.... We are ship faced

@@PoJoTheBackPacker Yes, we had to pay back then too. But we didn't care, we weren't necessarily there just for the beach. As girl-crazy young teens we were also going to Doctors Cave to flirt/meet cute foreign teens on vacay. haha
Was that Caribbean green seasoning maybe? Looked more like a chili heavy sauce. But when I lived in Caribbean they had a green herb type sauce. And an orange spicier version we just called hot sauce (wasn’t very hot 😅😂)
@Po'jo the backpacker, Hey Bro. Like how you are respectfully covering Jamaica. Have you considered renting a car in Jamaica. It's not as bad as it seems. Treasure beach (St Elizabeth) is a rarely visited spot in the Island by RUclipsrs. It's one of the coolest part of the island in my opinion. While you are there you can try out Lovers Leap, Appleton Rum Estate, Black River, Pelican bar, rated one of the coolest bars in the world. you have to take a boat to get there and YS falls. I would also suggest you take the Kuutsford Express when traveling. not Expensive and a lot more comfortable. Be prepared for Kingston, It's very much a city. The areas closer to the hills is called uptown, that's where middle class and wealthy Jamaicans stay, Downtown is more local shopping and is fun but be careful when navigating. It's a hit and miss with filming. People don't really care much for it. Stay out of politics. We, Jamaicans are very kind but also very patriotic. Portland is considered by many to be the most beautiful part of Jamaica. Also check out Negril.
Nah i deff like Kingston cuz its city vibes very very active but then again i like the chill and tranquility of that Portland coastline oh boy!!! Idn if anything is topping Portland for me but i still have a lot to explore so let’s see
KfC in Jamaica is own by a Jamaican family. The chicken is local and prepared to the Jamaican pallet. McDonalds didn't do well in Jamaica. Some had to close up. We cook jerk chicken at home and KFC is a treat. We don't eat it 7 days per week. Also KFC because it's an established company is not likely to cause food poisoning. Jerk is street food best to look for a restaurant that's selling it. Jamaica has other eaters than KFC. You won't know that from You Tube.
I went to jamaica reached late and the guy said he was a cab can take me to the hotel. He took me to the hotel but thinking back that could have been dangerous. It was un marked taxi
Also living in Miami this is true. But i am from CT and the water is actually extremely cold. If i said Miami in here being cold that’s my fault sorry 🫡👌🏽
I just bumped into your channel and I honestly love your vibes and content. Very different from another channel that the dude was bashing Jamaica, calling it a “slum” because he was in downtown, Kingston, where people have their markets outside…I didn’t appreciate it, among other Jamaicans.
I just subbed, and you were at 2.18k, but you’re now at 2.19k. I hope your channel continues to grow because you’re very masterful at relaying the vibes of the places, and the people you meet along your travels. 👍🙏🏾
Been there a few times..overall I felt safe.....you just have to be assertive with the aggressive vendors (they'll definitely try to pull you into their over-priced tourist shops or sell you weed). Outside of that...just try and avoid the less beaten path without going with locals but outside of that in MoBay..touristy areas are good, there's nice shopping areas and stuff as well. Not a big fan of walking in the the downtown area (the city) but everyone is just minding their own business and going about their day. Be careful at night. Been there twice in the past two years and want to go back again. EDIT: Forgot to talk about the conversion rate. Keep that in your head at all times..if something seems too expensive, negotiate it. To be honest, it's not really my thing and nothing has felt overly expensive except for the tourist shops (which I mentioned above). I don't care too much for that so I wanted to avoid it but my wife went in..they charged her $45 for a dress (which you'd buy anywhere else for 15-20) and then you leave and the next store owner wants to pull you into their store for the same overpriced items. Be assertive with them and you'll be good.
@@PoJoTheBackPacker With all due respect - a little presumptuous to assume I was talking to you. I mean obviously you've already experienced MoBay. This is for people reading the comment not specifically for you. I was just giving my experience for anyone else that was interested. Weird to respond like that..seeing as how I wasn't being disrespectful at all.
Bro next time u can get a sim card at one of our local stores outside the airport which is a lot cheaper, probably around $4-5 USD which is equivalent to $700 jmd
He got scammed, they rob you blind in Jamaica. From the tief dem at the money exchange, Eurocar, especially the taxi. The excursions, everyone is robbing you. Why should you pay foreign rate if your Jamaican visiting?
$50 for a sim card and activation seems kinda steep. Is that the best price? Seems like any service you get at an airport is more expensive than going to another site away from the airport.
$20 USD to go church street 😐 (I know mobay) I guess because it’s private vehicle. Local taxis (red plate) it would cost $200 jmd or give the driver $1000 jmd they would drop you off there.
Yoooo Po Jo I met the cabbie u rode with when I got to Jamaica in Mobay…. I just came back from vacation in Jamaica for 2 weeks and he was the first person I interacted with outside the airport while waiting for my car rental…I said “u look familiar I saw u on RUclips” and I mentioned your channel and he said yes…I said “ur famous now” and I took a pic with him or of him I can’t remember , I wish I could post it in the comments 😂😂
Kingston is safe the tourist seems to always want to the bad part of town, If you go to any country in the world and go to the bad area you are not going to feel safe, Go to New Kingston uptown, St Andrew.
Let me clarify what happened at @ 2:40 with the taxi man and getting a taxi. He was told he could get a taxi for JAD $200. This is local route taxi fare. The fare from the airport to downtown Montego Bay is $140. Do proper research on how to get one. The Route taxis will passed by the curb. They have red plates and the route is labelled on the doors. You need to flag one down. What you grabbed for $20 USD was the tourist taxis.
Hey i make mistakes so others don’t and so i can learn. You’re right i should have done proper research and the girls on the phone store told me how to catch a cab. I should have remained calm and wait for a route taxi or ask. I take accountability for my mistakes and for how i came off.. now i know though… also on my way back to this same spot i took a route taxi and it was much cheaper. Thank you for watching 👌🏽

The taxi driver is wrong about the kfc being the most profitable, when I looked it up that title actually went to the only KFC in the Caribbean to gain that title on another island back in the yr 2000,I won’t mention the name of that island but I believe it’sa 24hr wlk in restaurant that only closes on Christmas Day and the famous KFC Zinger sandwich was also invented on that very same island in 1984
Felt like that taxi driver was a tour guide. Great intro!
He was decent lol
God i love Jamaica food. Watching this is making me hungry right now! I would have to get the oxtail or stew chicken 😮
I need some oxtail right now too !
The beach is called Doctor’s Cave beach and both locals and tourists utilize the beach.
Yes this is true thank you for the information 👌🏽
It’s good that you are aware of everything around you. Some would have just went with the driver without a question.
Loved the video. I just subbed. Keep up the great work! Cheers from the other Kingston (Ontario, Canada)
I wanna go back to JA

I think i might link up with blessupjess! Thank you for the info
I went on a solo trip and took taxis everywhere in montego bay (even shared rides). The drivers always let me sit up front and made me feel safe.
Yea they always looking out
I am Jamaican living in the US and when I go back and they see me and the prices triple, they don’t care once you look like a foreigner and it’s crazy. I hate that about my country but not for everything though. Uber in the states is not cheap so $20 is not bad my guys be realistic now.
Yea it sometimes kills my experience but most of the time since being here in Jamaica I’ve paid local prices to be honest.
Yea well $20 was kind of bad considering i could have actually walked from the airport to my room if i had one bag and if i REALLY wanted to do that. Also i paid for a route taxi back and it was $200 Jamaican so in my opinion $20 was bad especially because it was literally a 6 minute drive
I haven’t Uber in America since like 2016 so i wouldn’t know
It’s hard to tell who’s foreigner in Jamaica now because people dress alike
@@bethunelabeach8349it’s not hard to tell. Your accent is a dead giveaway
Just found your channel and we absolutely love it.... we made it into a drinking game.... every time you touch your glasses we have to drink.... We are ship faced
I’m screaming lmfao
As a local i spent my preteen and early teen years hanging out at Doctors Cave beach on weekends with my buddies.
Did you guys have to pay back then? When was this pay for the beach thing initiated ? Anyways beautiful beach either way very lucky to have grown up with this beach as your back or front yard
@@PoJoTheBackPacker Yes, we had to pay back then too. But we didn't care, we weren't necessarily there just for the beach. As girl-crazy young teens we were also going to Doctors Cave to flirt/meet cute foreign teens on vacay. haha
Local Jamaicans do go here! I come there all the time when I come home! This is my parish and city.
It’s a nice place
If you are going to Kingston from mo bay use Knutsford express
Yea i took that route. Well the northern route that goes to Sangster i have yet to take the southern route that goes to Mypenn and mandeville
Maypenn
Is that Doctors Cave beach?? Wow!!! Beautiful!!!!
Was that Caribbean green seasoning maybe? Looked more like a chili heavy sauce. But when I lived in Caribbean they had a green herb type sauce. And an orange spicier version we just called hot sauce (wasn’t very hot 😅😂)
Nice man. Missed these vids. And you didn’t even make it to SEA. Now it’s all making sense :)))
Always the future
Thank you very much !
Very good advice
love all the info in this video! How much data did you get with your sim card?
I was there for a month so like the longest plan lol
Ayy bro Kingston is the best although I might be saying that out of bias 😂😂 but it’s definitely a different vibe from the touristy north coast
Nah i deff like Kingston cuz its city vibes very very active but then again i like the chill and tranquility of that Portland coastline oh boy!!! Idn if anything is topping Portland for me but i still have a lot to explore so let’s see
That’s nuts that a country with jerk chicken, kfc would be selling so much fried chicken. Much rather have jerk chicken personally 😅
Same bro but apparently kfc is the thing to also have while in Jamaica so we will do that soon 💪🏽
@@PoJoTheBackPackerlooking forward to it. I’m curious now too. I bet will be way better than in states. They do know their chicken in Jamaica
@@eileenwatt8283 I’ve had all the food on the street so far is very good
Downtown Kingston is way more crowded than downtown Montego Bay.
I've seen a few backpackers downtown Kingston taking the buses & walking around
Okay this is good to know thank you very much
I have family still in Jamaica, So different now!

Another thing , I live in Miami n Ft. Lauderdale n the Atlanta ocean is not cold in the summer.. now if you go to California the pacific is cold .
Thank you very much yea that’s not my type of content
@@PoJoTheBackPacker I can see that. I noticed that you visited blue mountain in Kingston. That’s where I stayed…beautiful, love it !!! Enjoy!

My brother no disrespect but check my page I’ve been all around Jamaica alone and with locals. Come on now brotha this ain’t my first rodeo
@@TheAltPhantom yea i know that now lol

I hope you did a KFC video! Great vlog man. Safe travels
Local price is different from foreigner price. Get used to that. You can't just think ppl trying to scam you. It's best you just negiotate the price
Very true
Lots of scammers around. The price should be standard. Africa is worst.
Exactly these people love to play black people this world is racist I swear nobody question Europeans I can't wait to get rich it hurts my heart
He got scammed, they rob you blind in Jamaica. From the tief dem at the money exchange, Eurocar, especially the taxi. The excursions, everyone is robbing you. Why should you pay foreign rate if your Jamaican visiting?
There is no foreign rate, they heard an accent or see him look foreignish they gonna up the price on you.
$50 for a sim card and activation seems kinda steep. Is that the best price? Seems like any service you get at an airport is more expensive than going to another site away from the airport.
Yea u can get cheaper in town
$20 USD to go church street 😐 (I know mobay) I guess because it’s private vehicle. Local taxis (red plate) it would cost $200 jmd or give the driver $1000 jmd they would drop you off there.
I make mistakes so others can learn. I learned quick and on the way back i paid the $200JMD no worries 😂
@@PoJoTheBackPackernext time to go airport you can take airport taxi from bus park or Knutsford lol 😅
@@KayKrisey yep i did that going back 😂 thank you for the advice
Yoooo Po Jo I met the cabbie u rode with when I got to Jamaica in Mobay…. I just came back from vacation in Jamaica for 2 weeks and he was the first person I interacted with outside the airport while waiting for my car rental…I said “u look familiar I saw u on RUclips” and I mentioned your channel and he said yes…I said “ur famous now” and I took a pic with him or of him I can’t remember , I wish I could post it in the comments 😂😂

Taxi man was very informative not bad
I gotta sub to u. Btw all cabs have red plates. As in red licene plate. I love your videos
Yessir thank You for the support 👌🏽
Kingston is safe the tourist seems to always want to the bad part of town, If you go to any country in the world and go to the bad area you are not going to feel safe, Go to New Kingston uptown, St Andrew.
Thank you for the advice
did two weeks in jamaica and took 7 days before we got to doctors cave beach
Lmfao yo trust me i was here for two weeks at first and got stuck in Portland lkl
Great
I’m so in love with Jamaica. Went for first time few days ago. Planning to go back in a few months. Time to find me a girl/wife there
Let me clarify what happened at @ 2:40 with the taxi man and getting a taxi.
