Your correct. Need to allow the air to escape. This was my first summer with the xj and even with the heat on the hwy it wasn’t allowing proper air flow. Need some hood vents myself. I’m in the pnw also hopefully I see you around. Thanks for the ideas.
Cool video, dont let haters stop you from being creative. Could you have done a couple things different, sure. Overall, I'd say great job. I hope to do something similar soon!
I havent had any issues from it and I live in the coastal PNW so the jeep has gotten alot of rain. one of the things I looked for when I was placing them was having it not be directly above any major electrical components (the driver side rear fuel injection system is "exposed" by the vent but there is only so much ya can do)
@@SomeGuyOutside yeah I also live in the pnw, I just installed some on my ZJ and I’ve noticed when the jeep is just sitting it’s a good idea to cover the vents, Definitely a great modification tho 👌🏻
Nice vid, and one part of me is crying for me to run take action and install the same grill. Another part of me, howewer, wonders: "how do you guys overheat theese cast Iron beauties???" Never had any overheating issues on my xj. Offroading her like hell, heavy traffic sometimes. 32-35 degrees celcius and it runs fine. The only issue i have sometimes is misfiring when Hot. Anyone has those? But the temp is always around the middle. I rarely hear the Electric fan on.
In central Washington it’s not an issue I’ve had in just very conscious of preventing it from occurring! I keep up on preventative maintenance but also I just thought I’d like the way it would look!
Theres a TSB for 4.0s that recommends wrapping your #3 (or all) injector(s) in some kind of insulatory material because the injector can vaporlock when it gets hot. Sometimes old crank sensors also get upset in the heat.
@@SomeGuyOutside I agree, looks nice, kinda like ZJ 5,9 hood. I always keep the radiator clean and coolant fresh. But, as i said, theres something about the grill, that made me consider having one. Thanx for the advice, I was thinking that the issue is in the jets, didnt know about evapouration lock. Looks like this, because If i have minimal movement and the engine bay is ventilated a bit, I dont have the issue. But If i stand idling for a long time or leave the Hot engine for a few minutes and the heat goes up, here we go misfiring. Next spring I'll wrap em in some kind of thermoisolating tape and see what happens. It's already pretty cold here in Russia.
Water tends to do that but it hasn’t been an issue so far. It’s not directly over any key electrical components but there are obviously some parts that get more water now but there is always going to be water that gets in somewhere, it’s a Jeep
Hint, First baby Powder before you work around Fiberglass ... But if you didnt, Take a Cold Shower, Hot will Open pores and let MORE get into your skin making it worse.
Im not terribly concerned with a small amount of water under the bonnet, water gets sprayed in by the tires through the wheel well and such. I chose that size and placement as their isn't an UBUNDANCE of electrical components directly under that spot. However you're correct there is certainly an increased risk of water damaging something having had done so.
“It gets hot here especially these days” guess you’re one of the climate emergencies people. Can you get the vents that close and open so you can close em when not needed or to keep the rain out???
You absolutely can I and considered it, the main reason I didn’t was cause of how “tall” most of the vents were (clearance in the engine bay). And on the climate emergency, yes I’m one of those people 😂
Why do even have the hood insulation on the hood if your worried about excess heat🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ and why not trim the vent instead of cut the hood string thing ribs??please do not make any more how to videos!
Like I said in the video, it’s purpose is to further prevent overheating that I do not yet have. Second it’s aesthetically more pleasing in my opinion to have the vents below the hood rather than on top. The insulation helps prevent heat warp of the paint on the hood. The hood would have to be cut either way (above or below) so that doesn’t make any sense? Finally it doesn’t say “how to” in the name or thumbnail but I appreciate the advice, I won’t be taking it. I recommend proof reading your comments as it was full of grammatical errors though! Thank you
Great job. I did the same application, but keep the frame on top. The custom look of real x j jeeper . Measure twice cut once.
Thank you!
I was doubtful but seeing the final outcome I think it’s pretty cool.
Whatever doubt you may have had, imagine how much I had while doing the cutting! Thank you
@@SomeGuyOutside well I really appreciate your video it gives a lot more confidence to do mine
Another helpful idea add a HD Fan Clutch off a Grand Cherokee , there heavier and its a more Heavy Duty Clutch, specially good when towing.

I’m around the mount baker-Snoqualmie national forest when I’m not at the day job or in the garage!! It was a fun project would recommend
just a note guys sparks from a grinder can cause pitting on your windshields
Yes absolutely a risk that a good fiberglass blanket could help prevent, do as I say not as I do!

I always appreciate constructive critism/advice and ignore the haters. "they hate us cause the aint us" as they say.
should cover the windshield too hot sparks can pit your windgsield and reflect when driving into the sun
Did you see results hot the heat???
Awesome!
How they hold up in the rain? Any issues?

Solve one problem and create another…water under the bonnet all the time :/

@@SomeGuyOutside fair enough, it’s probably worth the risk.

A constant battle between the smallest task to perfection or getting the whole project done in a timely manner 😂
