Shutdowns & Turnarounds

This Safety Minute highlights the added areas of risk during the much needed shutdowns and turnarounds. These added risks all play against the workers behaviors. From increasing the workforce, to deviating from regular operations, to tight timelines and perceived pressures to complete the job as fast as possible, together they increase risk. Yet all of these added risks are very manageable if we collaborate, follow rules, do our pre-job tasks with earnest, understand it is important in taking the time to the job right, and that management and supervisors can and want to help you with meeting your deadlines or adjusting timelines when deadlines must be missed.
The worst thing to happen during a shutdown is a severe incident or fatality because these things can shutdown the shutdown!
