- Here's a unique tutorial showing how to edit VR 180 3D Side-by-side videos that were captured using a VR 180 camera such as the Vuze XR or Insta360 Evo, using the free, open source video editing program called Shotcut.
shotcut.org
This tutorial includes step by step instructions on:
how to render footage using the Vuze XR studio with the best settings for VR 180 video editing
how to create a project in Shotcut using the right settings
how to do basic editing in Shotcut for VR 180 videos including cross fades, fade out, add background audio
how to make proper VR 180 3D stereo titles using Shotcut
how to apply proper equirectangular transformations to make the titles look correct using the built-in 360 video filters that Shotcut provides.
Finally, the tutorial shows how to export VR 180 videos properly from Shotcut using the right settings, and add metadata using the VR 180 Creator software formerly from Google, as well as how to upload them to RUclips.

Example video that I created during this tutorial can be viewed here:
• vuze xr example injected
Correction: When I dragged the top title track's title (for the right eye) to be longer in duration, I should have dragged the middle title tracks' title (for the left eye) to be the same length. The left eye and right eye's titles should always be visible at the same time.
Thanks for watching!

Hey Geoff, great video! So happy to discover Shotcut. Any suggestion for a 180VR (Mac) metadata injector? Really need to find something.
Hi Wayne, yes I can send you the Mac injector, just send me an email at geoff.peters@gmail.com Cheers
Thanks so much ! Do you have any vids working with the Insta 360 file format ?
Thanks. I have a tutorial for Adobe Premiere for Gear 360 footage which is the same format at Insta 360. ruclips.net/video/wO7FNAnqkH0/видео.html
I’m shooting 3D with stereo GoPros. Can i bring the two 2D videos together a 16:9 SBS half width output? Will the software allow me to make corrections for vertical or rotational matching of the two cameras?
Hi Brian, Shotcut just does basic video editing. For stereo alignment or processing of raw fisheye footage into Equirectangular format, I recommend a different software, perhaps Mistika VR? Best regards, Geoff
@@geoffmobile Thanks! Mistika VR looks amazing but the pricing is a little out of my hobby budget at this point. I like that it is macbased. I've since stumbled across Magix Movie Edit Pro which does the job but it's only Intel windows based. Hoping at some point they can make it work on WIndows 11 ARM so it can run on a newer m1 Silicon Macbook. Thanks again!
Nice to see a workflow that isn’t in Adobe or Resolve for VR180. Never liked Adobe , nor their pricing. DaVinci Resolve is the Bomb, but you need a superior gaming system. I will check it out…thanks Geoff
Awesome! Thanks for the comment :)
I have a Insta360 x3. I looked and the metadata is there. I have a metadata injector program. I have tried it with this but the same metadata is in the export. I was able to drag and drop the video into the program. VLC plays the video back as two circles as does FB. Any suggestions?
Hi J, it's been a while since I had my Insta360, isn't there a program you need to run on the footage to convert the footage to equirectangular format first? I think it's called Insta360 studio?
@@geoffmobile You are correct. They would have to convert it into a single file format first then render it in their other software editing application. After they get the .mp4 final file they would inject it.
May I ask for the VR180 creator from you? Many thanks! Just subbed.
Sure please email me geoff.peters@gmail.com and I'll send over the link. Please email me to let me know whether you need mac version, windows, or linux. Thank you :)
Is there is a way to preview the content as in anagliph for example?
Hi Anton, The only way I found so far was to render out the video (or a portion of it) and then use sView application to see it in Anaglyph. I don't think Shotcut has an Anaglyph filter yet but perhaps someone could add an Anaglyph filter, it would be great.

Most welcome, thanks
thank you a lot!
Hi jackya, you are most welcome, thank you for your comment! Best regards, Geoff
Is it possible to convert VR video into normal video?
Yes, you can use the Equirectangular to Rectilinear filter in shotcut to convert VR video into regular video.
Thank... how about if it is two individual fisheye videos imported?
Hi , for VR 180 you need two side-by-side equirectangular videos with 180 degree viewing angle. You will need to convert the two fisheye videos into the above mentioned equirectangular format, using the software that came with your camera, or a third party stitching software if you are using your own system.
@@geoffmobile I am taking about 2 gh5 with fisheye
Great video, and hopefully I'll be able to follow along with my project. I have sent you an email regarding the VR180 creator if you still have it (windows).
Thanks Adam! Not sure if you sent me an email but please feel free. Good luck!
How do I get the Google vr180 download for Mac?
Hi there GYADA, you can email me geoff.peters@gmail.com cheers, Geoff
