    Someone like Christine is much needed today. She tells the story of gender so clearly and firmly with such self-respect. She is above the drama, speaks with the intellect of an expert but in plain words.

    This is brilliant! What an elegant woman she was. That clip of her descent from the airplane in Idylwild in 1953, was the essence of clear composure. Given what she'd gone through, and the fact that many were not exactly kind or welcoming, she carried herself like a queen!

    A woman just as feminine as any other - and well ahead of her time to talk so correctly and intelligently about the issues she discusses especially at a time when even so-called " experts" were writing all sorts of prejudiced falsehoods about people who are "different." God bless Christine - clearly a lovely lady.

      Honestly, the openness to respectfully talk about the trans community is beyond that of some current day interviews. They have curiosity about a community of people not understood by the mainstream, but they don't decide that they're scheming to "groom kids"...they just respectfully ask the questions and accept her answers as someone with lived experience.
      Honestly, I love how her stance even transcends the stated medical understanding of the time of "having parts of her gender somewhere in her body." I love how even with that medical theory to work with, she still defends that we don't need to explore their bodies like test subjects, we just have to listen to what trans people have explored and know about themselves identity-wise. Her words still hold up to current theories of not physically determined but socially constructed and assigned gender.
      Even as a cis woman, she's an idol to me, she's got this amazing wisdom and viewpoint of her era.

    After seeing many interviews with Christine Jorgenson, it's apparent that she's a lovely, intelligent, well spoken and polished person. Attributes I hope to attain myself. Courage and perserverance seems fitting to describe her journey. But there there are so many more positive and affirmative words for Ms. Jorgenson. It seems she lived a gracious life without demanding general society succumb to her demands because of her own very personal, and intimately beautiful choices. No pronoun demands, no safe space demands, no demanding lawsuits to bend general society's views. I think, I hope she lived her life being her own equisitely lovely self without demanding affirmation from anyone other than herself. I hope I am right.

    • @amymills8817
      @amymills8817 3 года назад +20

      Maybe read about her later life, where she tried to get married (twice) but couldn't because she couldn't get her sex changed to female on her birth certificate. Or how her 2nd fiance lost his job when they found out he was engaged to her. Or read about how the police addressed her as "sir" in Las Vegas and threatened to put her in prison when her contract with the hotel she was performing at became rocky.
      If you think she wouldn't want proper pronouns and for society to change you're truly living under a rock. She had no position to demand those things in the 1950s, as most of society viewed her as a side show or a man or a freak. It's a miracle she wasn't killed. If it's really so hard for you to be considerate to trans people and for them to have equal treatment under the law, you need to step outside your bubble and realize it's not as easy for some people, and not everyone has the same experiences. Trans people want proper pronouns the same way you would want them, and a safe space to exist without being attacked, harrassed, or arrested the same as you.

      You make a good distinction between Christine's demeanor and the authoritarian, demanding spirit of today.

    • @Shalanaya
      @Shalanaya 4 месяца назад +1

      You are highly mistaken if you think she would not wish to bring in the authoritarian measures for her protection just like anyone else, but people like you see that as a problem, because it does not concern you, because you don't realize your own freedom relies on validation of all individual differences, anytime someone purposefully misgenders someone they are giving power away from individuals to an authoritarian entity. The fact you may think trans community has become authoritarian is only due to this abusive power dynamic perpetrated by bigots. This has been studied within the academia for decades how it works.
      Invalidation of gender identity is an attack on an individual freedom of everyone to be our authentic selves and self embodiment, this is how attack on abortion rights came around the same time as an attack on transgender healthcare, it stems from the invalidation of our differences which leads to authoritarianism. It is an attack that upholds religious fundamentalism and absolutism systematically ruling over it within this world. It turns humans from subjects into objects like a land, to be owned, commodified or weaponized. This is where the actual sexism comes from, an objectification of what is meant to be divine or unique in and of itself. And this is also where the idea of man and woman stems from, fundamentalism, in spite of the reality that there has not been found one single evidence of one universal distinction between male and female in nature, and that includes gametes or chromosomes, that is because it does not exist, and never will, as Mother Nature always defies definitions and universalism imposed upon her by the human arrogance.
      We all see things differently indeed, but it is ultimately the 'validation' of those differences without imposing our ideas onto it (as they are erasing those differences in that power dynamic) that determine the freedom of an individual, because how we see those things no longer matter if we have invalidated them, since we have become the intruders of the diversity of life at that point, and therefore we are taking away the freedom of an individual, which is bound to manifest on a collective scale over time, that is if this kind of interaction is being maintained and perpetuated. That is how it works in this world, the more you disrespect and dishonor people's differences, the more you will see attacks on your own freedom as a reflection of your own authoritarian behaviour, which as it seems are largely unconscious due to the lack of self awareness and a holistic perspective.

      I feel like incorporating interviews like this into history classes on the 50s would be super interesting and insightful to demonstrate how social attitudes can be influence or can differ from the mainstream understanding, maybe in a unit on misinformation and propaganda too, to compare this interview to one containing examples of the current day anti trans ignorance. She answers questions that professionals are still asking in the 2020s.
      But sadly, things like this get censored out of schooling. A teacher in the US got in huge trouble in the media for simply...playing a Disney movie that contains a subtle LGBTQ romance plot between teens.
      The corperate world isn't ready for a diverse education like this without someone pinning representatives as whatever harmful stereotype they were told about.

    It's interesting, I just got done reading Christine's Autobiography. While I never doubted her story, it's crazy to find proof of the events within. There is something rather time travel like that all this was happening in the 50's. Yet I talk to someone from that time period it's like it never happened. Then there is this interview, as well as even Dr. Harry Benjamin's Preface to the Autobiography. Both of which sound like they could have come out last week (Barring the obvious). Thank you for uploading this, according to the Autobiography this record didn't sell very well, so I was worried it would be a rare collectors item.

    In my opinion what made Christine Jorgensen so sensational, especially with the press. Is because she was the first passable transexual celebrity in America. People back in the 1950s were so shocked and bewildered that science could turn a man into a blonde bombshell. She was the Trans-Rita Hayworth.

She knew she had a medical condition cause by hormones etc. It wasn’t a political identity thing like the circus it’s turned into today. She worked with a team of doctors who diagnosed her. Now it’s become trendy and people are self diagnosing. She was insanely graceful and extremely smart. She saw all the things that were wrong with society. So so thankful for her!!!
