I'm now 63, the age Jorgensen was when she died. I read her autobiography when I was pretty young, expecting something sensationalist, but was instead very moved and inspired by her story, though I didn't understand the science behind her condition. As a result of her book, I grew up with a liberal attitude toward the fluidity of sexuality/gender. It's fascinating to now be able to hear her speak on RUclips and I am in awe of how "hip" and sensible and inspiring she came across. I would have loved to have had her as a wise old aunt! She was taken from us much too soon.

she died of bladder cancer as did her mother. Both were heavy smokers. Hopefully you will avoid that.

So Dr. Benjamin says there can be XX and XY in the same body? I didn't think that was humanly possible. I certainly never remember studying this in biology class. I was always under the assumption that the outward genitalia at birth is a reflection of either XX or XY in every cell in that person's body. Then again, there are cases of intersex people who have the full reproductive systems of both sexes, so I guess anything is possible. Sexuality is becoming quite a fluid concept.

+6672rock There are many different chromosomal sexes than XX, or XY. There is xxy, xyy, xo, xxxxx, xxyy, xyyy, xxxy and many more. There is also a chance that a person can have some cells in the body that are XX, while others are XY this can happen after blood transfusions.

This is ambiguous baby n needs further studying chromosomes like hormones r not consistent in humans or animals for that matter

I think she meant kleinfeters syndrome, rare chromesome genetic \e.G. 47 XXY \46 XXY mosaicism

Hey Kevin. You realize that humans were created with hormones and chromosomes and that there can be anomalies in these? I suggest you read the guilliamon 2016 study that says transexuals have a form of intersex of the brain. Actual transexuals not construction workers in wigs who were married men and like women I mean the type like Christine J. Hormones can absolutely be Mis delivered as the brain and genitals form in two separate trimesters boo. ❤️

In my opinion what made Christine Jorgensen so sensational, especially with the press. Is because she was the first passable transexual celebrity in America. People back in the 1950s were so shocked and bewildered that science could turn a man into a blonde bombshell. She was the Trans-Rita Hayworth.

peekaboots01 hormones don't revert a person's voice back to what it was pre-puberty; it's foolish to expect that, and pointless to make such a comment.
