I was a teenager (1961) when Skeeter Davis became a famous country singer in my country (Indonesia, Jakarta)...and we all admired her angelic voice..she was also beautiful..! Those were the days that we called "good old days" !
The strict societal rules we have gotten rid of are the result of people like Skeeter Davis. We enjoy freedom because of people like her. Her music and her memory will live on forever.
I love her voice. She is one of the best female singers we will ever see. ❤❤❤Skeeter❤❤❤ One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. A beautiful singer inside and out.
A true country singer in both voice and style, a ringing voice and impeccable enunciation. She was very beloved in the business and enjoyed a long career. She also composed songs.with great success. I always thought she looked darling.
One of the best GIRL SINGERS in all of Country Music and this answer song to the Late Hank Locklin's PLEASE HELP ME I'M FALLING' proves it......she had this song on her album I'LL SING YOU A SONG AND HARMONIZE TOO....where she sung and harmonized to her own singing...fortunately I managed to get ahold of 2 of these same albums and feel so blessed having done so....but her Harmony was the best...I miss her may she R.I.P. Also this song with her harmony on it appeared on an ANSWER SONG Album too
Such a beautiful voice and talented singer ... why would some people dislike such sweet music ..... such a shame .. i always love her songs ..grew up with my mother listening to her music
Of course I've always known and loved her hit The End of the World but just recently here on RUclips I've been discovering lots of her old recordings I never heard. I love her voice.
Just love her rendition of "End of the World"...sorry to hear she passed away. The best thing about her music is that you can actually understand every word and there are no grunts and groans or background dancers (?)...boy, am I old...lol
Skeeter made so many wonderful RCA Victor records. I have listened to al the other female vocalist of the day, but her albums and selection of songs surpasses them all. She was fabulous.
+Rohan Wright This isn't the oldest song though. What google says"Ancient music" is the name given to the music that followed. The "oldest known song" was written in cuneiform, dating to 3400 years ago from Ugarit.Oldest song ever
That Marty Fella I just love her men I grow up Listening to her Plus that is my mom artists when I get up in the morning that is the first song hit me and I wish those days come back
Sharon Huxford men in Jamaica when you get up and go outside its ajoy to live again when you listen to these old music the air was clean the people was good but know I really don't know what is going on but I hate today :(
Rohan Wright. Spent some time in Jamaica in the mid-sixties. Wonderful friendly people who enjoyed life. I'll always remember my time there with great fondness. I don't know what's going on today either, Rohan but life certainly does not appear as delightful as it once was - but let us make the best of it. Kind regards. Peter.
You live and learn ... I never knew about this follow up until tonight. Both songs ae just simple homely tunes, but they are effective and speak very clearly to the heart of anybody who has ever been in that situation. It's an impossible scenario: not wanting to hurt someone else who you love but who you are not in love with any more, yet knowing that you treasure that affection from a new flame who has rejuvenated you. If you can't have a lifetime of happiness is it wrong to have a few moments of happiness?
On this day in 1960 {September 26th} Skeeter Davis' "(I Can't Help You) I'm Falling Too" peaked at #2 {3 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country and Western Sides* chart, for the three weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "Alabam" by Cowboy Copas... "(I Can't Help You) I'm Falling Too" peaked at #39 on Billboard's Top 100 chart... Between 1957 and 1976 the Kentucky native had forty records on the Hot Country Singles chart, ten made the Top 10 with her two biggest hits both reaching #2, the above "(I Can't Help You) I'm Falling Too" and "End of The World" {1963}... ... Three of her forty charted records were duets, two with Bobby Bare and one with Don Bowman... Ms. Davis, born Mary Frances Penick, passed away at the age of 72 on September 19th, 2004... May she R.I.P. *And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the Hot C/W Sides' Top 10 on September 26th, 1960: At #3. "Anymore" by Roy Drusky #4. "On The Wings of A Dove" by Ferlin Husky #5. "Please Help Me, I'm Falling" by Hank Locklin #6. "I'm Getting Better" by Jim Reeves #7. "Heart To Heart" Talk" by Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan #8. "I Don't Believe I'll Fall In Love Today" by Warren Smith #9. "I Know One" by Jim Reeves #10. "Tip of My Fingers" by Bill Anderson
When I see a sweet, decent young woman like skeeter, I think of Lady Gaga, and Katie Perry and I want to BARF!!! What happened to pure talent without the BS?
Thanks for the post. I didn't recall her singing the old country stuff. She was good. I was looking at Wiki on her and the names and places were names and places that my family knew. She was a good pop singer, too. This wasn't lip syncing which was very nice.
@lopert You'll learn that when you are on the Grand Ole Opry show. Everything had to be done fast cause it had to fit within a certain time range. Then you got a thanks and the next one got do his or her trick. That's the music business and the show must go on...
When she first started she had a voice, she turned into an anemic product of the record companies... I just wonder who was in her to have made her so complacent...Women singers ought to keep their ass home before some man takes all their damn fire from them.
I was a teenager (1961) when Skeeter Davis became a famous country singer in my country (Indonesia, Jakarta)...and we all admired her angelic voice..she was also beautiful..! Those were the days that we called "good old days" !

Good old days ooooooo
I am a teenager right now and I also live in Indonesia!
Skeeter Davis was my late wife of 48 years’ favourite singer Greetings from Canada
Great performance. Makes you wonder how many people didn’t get together because some imaginary person in the sky was watching what we do.
The strict societal rules we have gotten rid of are the result of people like Skeeter Davis. We enjoy freedom because of people like her. Her music and her memory will live on forever.
SKeeter Davis should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame!!!!
Ralph Emery is to blame for that!
Way overdue for Hall of Fame!
Sure miss the old real country music, the modern country just isn’t the same.....

Such a beautiful voice and talented singer ... why would some people dislike such sweet music ..... such a shame .. i always love her songs ..grew up with my mother listening to her music
Because some people don't like high-pitched, whiny, twangy singing?
Some people just dont like old songs

Of course I've always known and loved her hit The End of the World but just recently here on RUclips I've been discovering lots of her old recordings I never heard. I love her voice.

There's something very endearing about her, like June Carter when she was young.

@zeak62 Well... Thanks for sharing your personal story, I guess... but I do agree, Skeeter was an amazing singer. :)

사랑한다는 역설때문에 말할 수 없는
A way better song here without backup vocals.
An early Pete Drake there on pedal Steel Guitar.
temon csmr!!!!!
Pete Drake there on Pedal Steel Guitar. Pity we don't see the band.
Cool
Why does it sounds so similar to Hank Locklin's Please help me I'm falling
Because it was meant to be a answer record song
Good,wholesome, Family Entertainment v_^
Before auto tune, singers worth their money would sing in tune manually.
Taylor Swift will NEVER compare to Skeeter Davis.
I agree. This is real music
2021
May it also be less trouble for my channel this time! *sigh* So unlucky with my previous one.. thanks for the heads up =)
