- Skeeter Davis sings 'I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know' live at the Pet Milk Grand Ole Opry in 1961. This song has been a #1 country hit for The Davis Sisters (Skeeter and Betty Jack Davis) in 1953 and was written by Cecil Allen Null.
Her impact was world wide believe it or not. My parents grew up listening to her in AFRICA. I grew up on skeeter davis and I was born in the 90s...she was before loretta and before dolly she paved the way. it was so hard to be a female country singer in those days and she did it! she deserves the recognition
fashiongrl2010 she is sadly mostly forgotten. Everybody talks about dolly these days😢
I agree Skeeter really was a special lady, sadly everyone also forgets about Sara Carter also who paved the way for female country singers starting back in 1927!
love her music in south korea
Well Said
@@sebziez Get The Biggest Titty Implantations that they have. How can anyone ever forget. Sadly sex supercedes Talent. Marilyn Monroe, Dolly, Lil Kim, Trina, Nikki and last but not least Cardi Ughhh I mean Cardi B. And no disrespect to Susan Boyle but she was an amazing singer as well and gained a short lived amount of fame and recognition but do you hear of her nowadays? Sad sad world. Nice song by the way. I was really looking up a Kanye West line that says I’ve forgot more than you ever thought of verse and ran across this woman and decided to click first. Because I thought maybe this song was inspiration for that line maybe maybe not. I always overthink things lol. Rather overthink for everyone that don’t I say lol.
SKEETER DAVIS SHOULD BE IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME!!!💚
back when music had heart and soul
This is the REAL COUNTRY MUSIC, not the garbage that is out now. Skeeter was one of the best
Interestingly enough, when Skeeter Davis was on the charts, people were saying the same thing, but they were talking about Skeeter, Pasty Cline and the other "Nashvile Sound" artists being the people putting out "garbage", and they were mourning the loss of "real country music" like Jimmy Rogers and Bob Wills, and in turn the people before them were complaining about how Bob Wills ruined hillbilly music by adding drums.
So I think everyone has a nostalgic spot for the music of our teens and twenties and somehow after that, the newer stuff doesn't sound as good to us, probably because we were busy working and raising families and didn't have time to keep up with and enjoy the latest music the way we did when we were young and carefree.
Yes you are very right on that.
Yes
bagus
phatgeezer1955: We also lost pasty Cline during that decade! One of the founders for women in the country Music business
No other voice gives me more pleasure than that of Skeeter Davis simply heavenly may god rest her soul
Indeed
Skeeter was always country and at times was highly underrated because she was extremely talented. The sad thing is the Davis Sisters only did one song before Betty Jack Davis died. Skeeter carried on and she was always one of the very best. RIP to the pretty young woman of country.
+David H I love Skeeter, but Betty Jack Davis had the richer voice. That's why Skeeter was always double-tracked in the studio, and took the high harmony on the original track.
Self portrait and 1986;-)
Beautiful song and beautiful lady! We won't have country music like this again!
I really love the way she sang this song. As if her entire self sang too. All singer should sing this way.
I will.never forget Skeeter Davis along with Patsy Cline.country singers .Two of precious kind...should never be forgotten
All Sketter's songs are great.
Yes, Not only are all her songs great but they all have a great story ,
Skeeters great.
Not as big a fan of Sketter though.
This is such a great song and such great singing , it bothers that anyone could push the dislike button , my ! My!.
Her singing is so awesome, one of my favourites
@@georged.wright9779 yes We use to play her singing this on a car cassette player. I still have her on a cassette. This is my favorite but I love the whole collection 💞. 1969 😂.
There's more to Skeeter Davis than The End of The World
may her soul R.I.P, Skeeter music will never die
This is truly a wonderful song written by my grandfather Cecil Null.....I miss you grandpa.
That's really cool!
Anything biographic about him should interest most, on here.
Thanks.
I am searching for and listening to all my mum's favourite songs online. I am crying as I listen to each of them. Mum RIP, I love and miss you so much
Great song, but also an amazing live performance. I appreciate all these older vids of the great country ladies -- most of these sound even better than the recorded versions.
She sings quite nice !!!! Gifted !!!! She must have been very young by then. I love her beautiful voice and the highly attractive and soothing lyrics. May the Almighty rest her soul in Eternal Peace. Amen.
She and Betty Jack Davis are singing harmony again.
Powerful voice in her Era still wonderful and sweet
2012 BETTER than anything nashville has today!
This is what I remember as country music, not the *rap I hear today.
at this time people really know how to sing...this is so beautiful...
A great song and a treat to catch skeeter at this age and singing live. Many thanks.
Personally, I loved her voice. I think this was one of the best songs she ever recorded. there is emotion, brilliance, and a sense that she must have lived the song. It's magic.
@LastTree Actually, Skeeter received 5 Grammy nominations but never got one, which is a disgrace! She's the best.
I like the arrangement of the background vocals. Just perfect to make it a solo.
They are often unappreciated.
One of my favorite singer, one of my favorite songs in this category of music. 'I forgot more than you'll ever know' she sings many more R/B and Spirituals that are among my favorites. RIP SKeeter Davis.
Nice song
This is just amazing! what a sound :) skeeter was such a special lady.
Skeeter Davis and The Davis Sisters were a legend in their own time. I played Skeeter Song on a 78 RPM record on a wind up victrola. And that was back in the 1950's. At 75, Need to have more greats come along in this day and age.
Awesome song. Lovely voice, lovely lady. RIP Skeeter. Your last yrs rough, but u gave cancer a hard fight. 12-30-31/9-19-04. Your music continues. Another COUNTRY artist that should be in Hall of Fame!!!
Wow, what a singer ! And a performer !
I'm 28. I listen to this and I can't help, but to think of my mother. 3 marriages. I've been there for all 3. I don't think about myself, but rather what she feels. I'm a momma's boy and I can't help, but cry to this. When that wonderful woman hurts, I hurt. I'll always love you momma and I'm thankful for every day I have with you.
She does a wonderful job singing
When badass in their own right people like Dylan & Dick Dale & gram parsons love "country" this is WHY!
I'm an Australian Male, born in 1950. My God!, I've never heard Her, ever. She's glorious!.
I'm soon to be 18, I have a passion for old country music like this. Skeeter Davis was one of the very best, a Queen of Country Music. So much talent! She had the voice of an angel!! Her legacy has lived on, and she is on tour with the Angels. ❤️❤️
Amazing Skeeter :) very special lady now resting with the lord :) thank you for what you left for us in the short time you was here.
It's great to hear Skeeter without the double track vocal common on her records. So all you get is this immensely talented woman looking a little nervous, wearing clothes that are not glitzy but common, but man what a voice. The Glasers sound great, and Leon Rhodes !!!!
There is a certain nervous quality, you’re right. I wonder why. By the time this was filmed she was a seasoned pro.
@@anthonybevilacqua3074 I can't imagine Skeeter ever sang this song without recalling the tragic death of her best friend and singing partner Betty Jack Davis. I think it's not really "nerves" but reliving that painful loss each note of the song. It's a very poignant, beautiful performance.
I used to listen to her album with my dad when I was little
These wemen sang from the heart and from heart broke memories back then.. great music
Not only was Skeeter Davis a great Country Singer back in the day she was also able to cross-over as a semi-soul/country singer in the mid-1960s. My white friend from Memphis told me this since I'm not white but mix.
Such a great song sung very well. This was before my time, but guess what, my daughter likes it. !
I wonder how my childhood would have looked like in Nigeria if I wasn't raised listening to her beautiful voice. Especially her harmonies. It developed my imagination. God bless your soul RIP
this is what you call country music not what is out now what happen to the good country music
Went back to lreland-
@@candw87 Interesting.
I'm sure that it was the folk song of the all the British Isles taken out to America that is truly Country's origins.
Did not ever know her voice this good thanks 🎶🎶🎶
sounds better than on the cd very talented
2019 and still playing this...
2021 still golden
OMG, I still have this album! It was my mothers favorite! I can't play it now (since CDs) but I miss this.
Skeeter Davis was one of the greatest country female vocalists ever and this stunningly moving and beautiful live performance should shut up that handful that say she needed "double tracking" to sounded great. Almost every female vocalist in that era recorded at least some of their songs double-tracked because it sounds so good and Skeeter sounded the best of anybody in this style. I own this on the Time-Life Opry dvds and have played this segment far more than any other song on all the dvds. As Marty Stuart says in the beginning intro to that dvd, "country singing doesn't get any better, sweeter, or more poignant" than Skeeter's magnificent performance here. The fact that this video here has almost 200 rave reviews written here and almost 3,000 likes is extraordinary proof how wonderful she was.
Clear as a bell ❤
Thanks for the post. Love this live version. Was taken off for a while. Glad it is back.
Back then if you didn't have her records in your collection it was incomplete
She was true country great singing

A really great song. Thanks for all these old favorites...Merry Chritmas and have a GREAT new year
They don't make any type of music or genres like they used to back in the day and I'm only 29! Music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s is much better than most junk today!
I thank my dad for introducing I and my siblings to this songs ❤
This song sounds so good for be done in the old black in white days
beautifoul woman and singer!i remmber her all days!
Truly an Angel Among Men ✨🤍✨

beautiful,real country
Nice song.
Watching in 2024 ❤🎉
al weer een schatje, mooi liedje hoor. dit mis ik in deze tijd. < jammer >
Now this is country music
@manbehindthescreen1 U are so right! Politics as in the power of egotistic ex Ralph Emery. She should have made it long before Jean Sheperd(no offense intended) and some of the male artists that have been inducted. She should be in the Hall of Fame twice once as The Davis Sisters and then her on career. I do not understand how they can leave her out.
One thing I’ll add. , no matter the changes that’s called the Nashville Sound or the Outlaw Sound the songs were good and that’s the difference, if the songs aren’t good it doesn’t matter what you call it. You can’t tell me, Crazy by Patsy isn’t great. Well it’s the number one country song in history. Stand By Your Man by Tammy is another one. They were so good they were played on all charts, not just hillbilly. He Stopped Loving Her Today was number one in history, on country charts only. Bob Wills had Faded Love and San Antonio Rose that’s country and swing and Patsy had hits on both.
Evergreen voice 👍!!
That was a happy song, now I invite you to the blues
love!
EddieParker this gal is pure sweet country music she is a ky girl just absolutely fantastic she is a darling 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🌹😘❤️😍💕
Real. Country...music....
Beautiful...
My late father's fave song
How beautiful women, at their best, of course, once looked. Even if ordinary daywear, at least they once wore real clothes.
No need to comment on the music.
Bobby bare play great on his guitar.
I love the old music more than the new ones. I love the new ones but i am very selctive due to most of our music of today are with double meaning.
