Dude, mad props to you. It's such a pain finding anyone interested in making sticks for Smash Bros, and many people don't understand you need analog potentiometers; digital switches don't cut it. Sanwa JLFs are nice, but they're everywhere and not meant for Smash as is. Can't even find the mysterious Sanwa JLM, the one that uses magnets to output an analog signal. Cool idea combining the Adafruit with the JLF, wish that the procedure didn't require a lot of drilling and demeling...
The Alt Labs Smash Stick is the only premium alternative compatible with Smash Bros, and when they finally come out (still stuck in production limbo), their Hall Effect magnet sticks will be much more preferred. Still, the potentiometers similar to those on the Adafruit stick have been used in some 3rd party analog controllers before everyone jumped on the Alps bandwagon. They're pretty reliable, albeit need serious silicon lubrication as plastic grinds on plastic over time.
Only other alternative I can think of is something similar to the optical sensors in N64 control sticks. There's documentation out there on converting those optic signals to expected Gamecube analog input.

I NEED this! I've been waiting for AltLabs for YEARS now to finish their "Smash Box" but they're taking soooo long.

Nice dude! Similar to the SJ@JX I use for my smash bros arcade but been having trouble modding it to fit a spring.

I have a question, how did you get the original stick out of the housing? I have that same analog joystick and I'm trying to remove the stick so I can modify it, without busting it.

This is awesome! Have you created a full smash bros fight stick??

I do! I have a few things I still need to get working better to use an analog stick like this. Right now it's an all button box until I have some time to refine this idea
