I have been uncomfortable with the idea of buying non-Lego pieces for a while because it seemed like cheating on a partner! But, I’m a 55 year old single mother, building Lego MOCs is the only hobby I truly love, and I simply can’t afford all the Lego I need to feed my soul. Seeing this review has taken the edge off my stress! I think my future suddenly includes a large dog tooth floor, large garden, and fabulous fireplaces in my dream house build…
I'm currently building a project that would have cost $300 if I ordered all genuine LEGO from Bricklink. Instead, I'm using 99% Webrick parts + 1 Bricklink order and it cut the cost down to $90. Another project I have lined up would have cost $38 from four different sellers on Bricklink, with shipping costs potentially driving the cost up to $58. Instead, I ordered all the parts off Webrick yesterday for $22 including shipping. Webrick is a huge game-changer and the news doesn't bode well for LEGO/Bricklink's long-term survival.
Times are changing.... Lego has serious competition for a change. Maybe their prices will come back down to reality once they see the shift. Quality is quality regardless of who produces it !! The BEST parts is, WeBrick offers many of the parts in LOTS MORE COLORS than Lego does, and large BULK LOTS.
I have tried Webrick as well and have found exactly the same. Except for the plain studs, the odd scuff or spot of another colour in the moulding, there is no difference at all. I found they actually clutch even better than LEGO, and I like that they have pieces in colours that LEGO don't produce at all, or in such minute quantities, that they cost the earth. The Dark Green 1 x 6 brick is a case in point. Living in Tasmania, Australia, and find the delivery time astounding. The parcel gets from China to past customs in Sydney in 4-5 days, then it takes well over a week for it to get to me. I find that is odd, but obviously nothing to do with the sender. Apart from the very good pricing, the convenience of being able to get up to 100% of a MOC in one shipment, a further plus point is that their customer service is very responsive, helpful and friendly. Overall I can recommend Webrick.
I have about 20 % of "alternative" bricks in my collection - I got tired of separating them and mostly I forget about the fact completely, since - like you - I can't see or feel any difference. They work.
I'm making the brickvault X-WING, I got 97% of the bricks on webrick and the other 3% of the specialized bricks on bricklink. All the bricks I got on webrick came up to $74! Insanely cheap but did have to pay $11 shipping, so about $85 in total which is still amazing value. when I uploaded the parts, it even made a little list of the parts they didn't have so I could make a cart on bricklink :) I'm quite excited to see how it turns out because this would be a game changer! I'll come back later to share my experience after I build it :)
Mixed feelings about this but as far as MOCs go this just might be the route I'll take. Only thing that worries me is how to keep the bricks separate or just incorporate them into the LEGO collection. Thank you for the review.
For me, I no longer see a purpose in separating my LEGO bricks from my clone bricks with newer clones being virtually indistinguishable from LEGO in color, feel, or quality. Unless someone is reselling LEGO pieces or sets to a buyer who cares, I don't understand the reason to go through the trouble.
I'm kind of in that same spot where it almost feels dirty using these bricks. Almost as if I'm cheating. Lego is so expensive these days though and I've got so many desired builds that webrick has now potentially opened the door too. I guess in a sense it isn't that far off from using brickarms weapons and many of us have been using those for a decade now.
@@rbntlin I myself would have no definitive answer but I'd say even though these bricks are good quality, they're still a knockoff. And unlike Brickarms weapons that have developed a fanbase and established their own value, Webrick is still new and viewed as a knockoff so there probably isn't much of a resale value unless you can fool people into believing they are real LEGO(pretty scummy to do though imo) or, somehow these knockoff bricks become super popular and establish a value among consumers/buyers down the road.
I’m trying we bricks soon! I’m excited and it saved me a ton of money. I’m building a Japanese mini truck and a Star Wars ship. Saved easily over 200 usd by using webrick instead of lego.
I have a large collection of Star Wars Lego builds. I am finding I am loving the detail in MOCs a bit more. I have done 3 Jerec Mocs one being his Razor crest and went 98% Webricks and printed bricks are Lego. Outside of the longer airing for my overseas order I am loving go bricks/Webricks. I am doing the Slave 1 in 99% Webricks next which the instructions are from Brickvault. It will sit next to my ucs slave 1 from Lego.
I think, and this is my opinion only. If you're making MOCs or designs that differ from official Lego sets - any brick will work that you want to work with. If you want to copy a lego design piece for piece... do it in lego. Personally, I wouldn't mix brands but I'm not opposed to using a different brand especially if one has the rights to a theme I like and enjoy. But, Lego stays with lego and Mega stays with Mega. If I found myself wanting a MOC I will strongly consider Webrick, though. Thanks for the review!
Agreed. And I’m glad that Paul mentioned the R&D considerations and licensing costs, etc that go into Lego pricing vs the knockoffs that just come in and copy the end product. I’m not opposed to anyone using non-Lego on their own designs or to supplement a set, but not so much a fan of those promoting how you can rip off a Lego build for half the price. Those folks might be less common, but I just don’t want to see Lego priced out of being able to hire the best designers and engineers. Because you can really see the difference in their sets.
I’ve heard that Gobricks have less colour deviation then Lego (which in some sets and colour a is a real let down ) Not a huge palette in your Moc, but was there any noticeable difference?
After watching this how can you justify purchasing lego when a company like this can manufacture an equally good quality bricks and parts as lego them selves?
Please keep in mind that LEGO spends lots of money on marketing. If LEGO would stop as a company then those kind of imitators have nothing because they only copy stuff instead of creating them, think about that!
I have 2 sets coming from China (for review) made from Gobicks. After watching your video I am a bit more keen to review them seeing as the quality is good. Great video.
First of all, you have to remember that Lego didn't invent the bricks. The British company Kiddicraft, founded in 1932 by Hilary Page, had already been producing them in plastic from the late 1930s. Fisher Page invented the bricks and he also had the patent in the UK for his "Self-Locking Bricks". Lego copied these bricks, and then produced these copied bricks themselves after World War II. Later they changed the design a little bit, so that the bricks had a firmer hold on each other. They then applied for a worldwide patent for the copy, and this patent has long since expired. So ( to say ) they built their "corporate empire" on copying someone else's invention ... About GoBricks: GoBricks has the significantly better quality. The bricks hold together more firmly, the colors of the bricks have no variance, there are bricks and parts from GoBricks in colors that Lego does not have, and they also feel much more pleasant to the touch. Of course, this is my perception - other people may feel differently. But: since I had the first sets of Mould King in my hands, which are commissioned by GoBricks, I don't build my MOCs with Lego anymore. About Webrick: What you have to keep in mind with Webrick is that they don't only sell GoBricks, but also bricks from many other manufacturers. Did you explicitly order GoBricks? What you also have to consider is the transport from China to Europe, which can damage/scratch the bricks if not packed correctly. Therefore, what you get from Webrick rarely arrives completely undamaged.
I was unaware of the Kiddicraft, very interesting. So where do you order your bricks from for your MOCs? This separate shipping on Brinklink can add up quickly.
@@reesehuntiii3070 Many people did not know that Lego did not invent the bricks, but copied them. I'm glad if I could fill a knowledge gap there 😉 Until recently, I ordered my GoBricks bricks from "Konstruktor" in Australia. Unfortunately, the company has fallen out with GoBricks, so I now order from webrick. But you have to make sure that you select GoBricks for every part you order. But if you have cvs. files, e.g. from Rebrickable, you can upload them to webrick and select in advance that you only want GoBricks. After uploading, you can put the bricks and parts directly into the shopping cart, go to the checkout and pay. After about 14 - 21 days, the ordered goods will arrive. If you want to try it out, I recommend placing a small order first so that you can see the quality of the bricks for yourself. With the code WEBRICK413 you can get a small discount
Good knowledge there Rabenfrau and thanks for the detailed comment. I may do another review actually using the Webrick website. Also I had no say in what company supplied the bricks. Thanks again.
I bought these aswell I'd rather get these for my hig projects so I can save alot their high quality other then some scratchs like yours for what they offer its so worth it the funny thing is some technic peices with the axle holes in real lego tend to fail over time or start to crack these have the same issue they don't do it any faster or slower tho but yeah I wish they offered some metal variations for certain parts that tend to fail but it's alright
There is inconsistency between pieces, some even have different sizes. You can notice it specially when you try to use the pieces in an unconventional way. And don't fool yourself. Webrick pieces are stiffer. When you piece a larger kit together, the fingers hurt more.
I have a lot of different brick company types, Lepin, the Amazon sets, Megabloks, Temu stuff, Nano bricks, Jecka, the ones 73% the size oif Lego. I never buy anything that Lego has a set of, so I have cruise ships, Akira bike, Space Battleship Yamato etc. I have hundreds of Lego sets and all the knock off stuff just isnt the same. Its close, but its just not there. Sometimes the flexability isnt right, sometimes the clutch power. If it was 20% the price I would get it, but 50% forget it.
I’ve just submitted an order for a few parts but for me, I’m only interested in bricks that LEGO doesn’t make in the colors I need like mudguards in light blay. Here’s hoping the quality stands up. I won’t be switching over even if identical, I think of it as a stopgap
I have build the lego 8880 set with like 95% of parts from webrick. They are NOT the same quality. Those lego technic bricks with holes are bad. They stick together so much, you will feel it is not lego quality. Also with wheels and tires - I wouldn't trust them, they have such gaps there, they are useless.
No, you don't have to go to hell! I'm using both Lego and Chinese bricks and mix them in any build. Depending on part and color the alternative bricks have a price difference to Lego between 25% and 100%. And there are parts in colors you don't get from Lego. For example you can buy 3940b (Support 2 x 2 x 2 Stand with Complete Hole) in light bluish gray from WeBrick but you can't buy it from Lego. Somehow Lego and the Asian manufacturers complement each other, which gives us a bigger variety in the selection of our bricks. Lego will have to make an effort to be able to keep up with the prices, the quality (which has dropped at Lego, which we were able to experience in Germany especially with the colors white, sand green and LBG) and the variety of colors in the individual parts. And fighting off other companies from the market with legal issues is nothing you can continue forever.
Im vastly only using bricks from Gobricks. Even, lets say, that the quality is about 10% behind Lego (often scratches on glossy dark pieces, maybe here and then a missing piece...) Still, for a Moc with 6000-7000 pieces with only Lego bricks you would pay around 1500€ Meanwhile you can get 12.000 Gobrick pieces for around 400€.
