Hey David, I know right! It’s crazy how much stuff we accumulate over the years, most of it packed into the basement or just sitting outside. Appreciate it brother!
Chief When you put on another thru hull fitting. Snug it up until the caulk starts to ooze out, stop for 24 hours and go back and tighten all of the way the next day, that way all your Caulk doesn’t ooze all the way out. Love your work and retirement. Great job
My first tool I grab when working on the boat is the Black and Decker 3.6v battery powered nut driver. I use it for any phillips or clams with the 5/16" socket for it. Saves a lot of time and work. They are very strong for their size as well! Have used them for years and they really hold up well and I crank down on them frequently. Another comment, not worth mentioning now this late is those clear type vinyl hoses, which I like by the way don't do well in boats over time. Ask me how I know! They harden over time and stress the connections and can break the plastic fittings. They also can leak where under pressure even with very tight clamps. I think the vinyl shrinks and hardens over time. I had to replace 20' in my boat because the fresh water system kept leaking which is under about 30psi I think. You should be ok for a few years and as long as you secure them from flopping around under waves and pounding/vibration should be ok. Final word..do yourself a favor and replace every single thru hull that is plastic. Even above the waterline, they do take in water enough to run bilge or rot wood. Again, ask me how I know.
Glad to see the body is letting you move around again with out to much pain. Growing old is not for wimps!! Got a lot done this week, looks great. see you next week.
Hey brother, yeah the back just goes through moments, if I stop and relax a little it fixes itself, if I push it I am usually down for a while… better just to chill sometimes
I've enjoyed the garage build but as a Coastie, albeit an airdale, I'm a fishing fool and I'm really looking forward to seeing her on the water. Steady on Chief and all things will be finished in their time.
Good thing to keep in mind when zip tying in places you really don't want to get back in are the stainless steel zip ties. Plastic seems to get brittle and break in a few years at best. Aren't that much more either.
@@shotslife Iwas going to say the same on the zip ties. I have to replace many as they just break over time. Another route you can take is use heavy 400# mono and crimp it or even use some nylon type small diameter rope. I have even doubled up on zip ties for my trailer and look under every now and then and they are broke for no good reason.
I was always told to take a cold shower to remove fiberglass powder. Something I found out on my own is rubbing alcohol and a playing card. Scrape the affected area with the edge of the card and splash rubbing alcohol at the same time. The idea is not to open your pores to trap the glass.
Hello on the sea pump for live well and wash down you should have a sea strainer between pump and the line coming in from the bottom of your boat and a shut valve at the inlet fitting just sujestion filter protects crap getting in the pump and the shut valve is saw if a hose lets go you don,t take on water
Alot of crawling in the boat. Well it seems like i have to pull out my motor this summer and rebuild it 😳 and I got a spot in the Harbour this year so i were about to put it in water, but now i have to see if its possible. Great vid anyway Shot 👍👍👊
I like your content. But if it were me on this build I would’ve rebuild that transom up to the height of the rest of the gunnels. Then a bracket on the back
Hey brother, just a quick tip. When you plan on being near or working on fiberglass sprinkle baby powder on yourself and the small fibers won't get to your skin ( at least not as bad ) then when you take a shower it all comes off. I've done a lot of glass work in the past and I always did that and it always did the job. Also a battery powered 1/4 inch ratchet works great on those hose clamps. Especially when you use an extension. Just don't over tighten. By the way that beautiful helper tried to turn it with the pliers but that guy inside the boat was straining too much. ( I know because I heard him groaning. ) lol lol be safe my brother, talk to you later.
I like your improvement on making cuts & moving the story along in your editing. I ‘m speaking of the ‘cutaway’ you have been using. It is creative & helps the story.🤓
If you will treat the itching like an allergic reaction and use some hydrocortisone cream after your shower the itching will go away. Also use as cold of water as you can stand for the shower. Hot water inflames the iritated skin. 46 years as a boat mechanic and it took me a while to figure this out.
Too late but, I always use a nut driver when attaching hose clamps. Easier to tighten them and they dont slip off the slotted scrrw and jab your fingers or hand. Nice progress on the old girl. Chuck
That's really great to see all the plumbing get done. Progress is awesome. Your "daughter" is a saint! Ya know, I'm starting to think you're into the boat for kore than $10.🤔🤣
Good work there man! Just wait till you do the rewire, lots of fun. When using those GoPro’s with a USB charger plugged in, for some reason it messes with the internals, at least that’s what happened to mine. If you have a repair shop near buy (or can send it to a shop) you can get it fixed for way less than buying a new one.
@@shotslife They do take a beating. $130 to fix mine, bad USB pins and the main board was damaged. A week later, it felt like a new camera, cheaper then a new GoPro for sure.
I’m thinking those through holes a a bit higher so there is a belly in the pipe on purpose. When the boat rocks from side to side they will empty, but it may also help them to not work in reverse and drain the lake in during the same motion? However I know nothing about boats.
you could use a pair of vice grips on the inside to hold the thru hull & slip join pliers on the nut, instead of having your wife hold the pliers. you can also adjust the final position while its tight.
Can’t believe your running out of space in the huge garage already….lol. Love you videos thanks for taking the time to share with us.
Hey David, I know right! It’s crazy how much stuff we accumulate over the years, most of it packed into the basement or just sitting outside. Appreciate it brother!
Looks like you had an excellent day glad to see you’re back working on the boat
Thanks Lee, it’s good to get back on her!
Chief

Interesting, thanks
Ol Grady going too be top notch when you get her back on the water ! 👍
She will definitely be in better shape than when I found her! Lol
Always makes my week when you work on the boat. Wow, lots of plumbing and great progress! Won't be long and you'll be installing the outboards.
Thanks Stranger! I can’t wait!

Lol, sounds like you have had a lot of fun fixing your boat! Thanks brother
Great work enjoying your videos. It’s kind of funny watching your wife. She doesn’t seem to be too excited lol.
Lol, yeah she helps when she has too.. lol
On the very first fitting that you did, it looks like you missed a clamp on the T fitting. It's the line going to the thru hull.
I’ll check, thanks!
Glad to see the body is letting you move around again with out to much pain. Growing old is not for wimps!! Got a lot done this week, looks great. see you next week.

Nice work on the plumbing glad see the boat is getting some attention. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Thanks
Tim

Hey thanks for serving! Me too, cant wait!
Hey Chief, your life would be a lot easier if you used a 5/16" nut driver on those clamps, just a suggestion.
Yep, that’s a fact, just got done doing that on the motor home and thought why didn’t I do that on the boat! Lol, live and learn!
...$10 boat, $20,000 parts+labor, good deal...lol.. waiting for first ridealong..keep safe and have a great week amigo...
Hahahahaha, your not kidding Bob!
Ultimate fresh water fidhing boat best of both worlds
Good thing to keep in mind when zip tying in places you really don't want to get back in are the stainless steel zip ties. Plastic seems to get brittle and break in a few years at best. Aren't that much more either.
I’ll have to see if I can find some
@@shotslife I found them on Amazon.

I do that for sure, but alcohol and a card.., interesting

Ok, I’ll check for that on the other side, if not we need to get them on…

Oooooh nooooo, that stinks, hope you get it sorted!
I like your content. But if it were me on this build I would’ve rebuild that transom up to the height of the rest of the gunnels. Then a bracket on the back
Shots you are lucky and blessed to have such a wonderful Wife that will help you on these projects
Hey brother, yeah she’s a keeper. She used to help all the time but less and less these days.

Lol, yeah, don’t know why I didn’t grab a nut driver, I think I got lazy climbing in and out, had a screw driver handy… I was thankful for the help.
I like your improvement on making cuts & moving the story along in your editing. I ‘m speaking of the ‘cutaway’ you have been using. It is creative & helps the story.🤓
Thanks! I like feedback on that stuff, I only did it in a couple episodes because no one commented! I’ll go back to using it…
Always enjoy your vlogs. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jimmy
Should double clamp fittings. As told to me by a Surveyor for insurance.

Interesting, yeah I always take a cold shower when I am done, then a second warm shower before bed… seems to help!
I would try old-fashioned calamine lotion. Over the counter, non prescription.
Too late but, I always use a nut driver when attaching hose clamps. Easier to tighten them and they dont slip off the slotted scrrw and jab your fingers or hand. Nice progress on the old girl. Chuck
Yes sir, no idea why I didn’t grab a not driver!
That's really great to see all the plumbing get done. Progress is awesome. Your "daughter" is a saint! Ya know, I'm starting to think you're into the boat for kore than $10.🤔🤣
Hahahahahaha! Yeah I say I am well over $10s now! Lol
Good work there man! Just wait till you do the rewire, lots of fun.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I need to send them in to get fixed, poor things take a beating!
@@shotslife They do take a beating. $130 to fix mine, bad USB pins and the main board was damaged. A week later, it felt like a new camera, cheaper then a new GoPro for sure.
have missed you working on the boat, well done sir
Thanks Robert
Ir you use nut drivers to tighten those style clamps real nice when I was a mechanic it worked well
Yes Sir, I was just lazy I guess, screw driver was handy.. really I don’t know why I didn’t grab a nut driver! 😂
Make oak , mahogany cutting board and replace on bait tank
Using a 5/16 nut driver to tighten those clamps are much easier than using a straight.
Yup, thanks Marvin, I have no idea why I didn’t grab the nut driver
that 10 dollar boat must be up to around a million five, by now. just remember when it's all done, i get it.
Hahahhahaha!
I’m thinking those through holes a a bit higher so there is a belly in the pipe on purpose. When the boat rocks from side to side they will empty, but it may also help them to not work in reverse and drain the lake in during the same motion? However I know nothing about boats.
Yeah, no idea… but that could be, I am going with “the manufacture designed it that way” lol!
nice progress on the boat, but where are the garage doors 👍👍👌
Lol!
I guess your cameras are like people. They older they get the more things that quit working. I look forward to when this is sailing in the lake.
Lol, ok this is just plain truth!
Nice job. She's getting there. Can't wait to see her on the water. Any plans to put her in some saltwater anywhere?
I really don’t but that doesn’t mean the next care taker doesn’t… I only have fresh water around me.
you could use a pair of vice grips on the inside to hold the thru hull & slip join pliers on the nut, instead of having your wife hold the pliers. you can also adjust the final position while its tight.
Yup, I could have for sure
Time to go boating soon?? Nice garage doors!!
Lol, getting closer anyway! Thanks!
hey brother, have you thought of a one way valve for that water line fitting that you installed, it would go right at the fitting at the bulkhead
Yeah your the second person to mention that, I will have to check what is on the other side but its a great idea if there is not one
So with gas over $5.00 a gallon, what would it cost to fill that boat up now? $1,000.00? Maybe there's no hurry to finish the boat.
Hahahahahha, your not kidding about that!!
Acitone around hole then install
A 5/16 nut driver works so much better on those hose clamps
Your right about that, not sure why I didn’t grab one..
You wil know every inch of the boat
Use zip twice cut at loop
Sinkoflex caulk
U gonna sell that boat when your done with restoration?
I’ll use it a few times and then probably… I’ll make them watch the videos first so they know what they are getting. Lol
It's the hard way? it's just the way it works for u bro!!, next time u mite do it different if u do it lol 😊😊😊
Lol, yup!
I see it used on other boat channels
I’ll have to look it up
Should have prepped then ask
First
😀
The wife could crawl in there she would love that
