The SECRET! Bait and Tackle Shops WONT Teach You!! -How to Catch Ballyhoo (Tackle Tuesday)

  • In this weeks Tackle Tuesday, I go over how to throw a cast net and catch Ballyhoo for bait, using chum. Ballyhoo are one of the best saltwater fishing baits you can use while fishing offshore in Florida. They can be used for Mahi- Mahi ( Dolphin or Dorado), Tuna, snapper, Grouper and multiple other species, while deep sea fishing. By catching your own bait, you save money and can learn rigging techniques. The Fishing tips and tricks provided in this video are secrets that bait and tackle shops don't want you to know.

Brother I have been fishing South Florida for 29 years and I can tell you this... You have a hell of an attitude you're very informative in you have a great way of explaining this to the novices period. Keep the passion and keep the videos, they are definitely helping people who are less fortunate to fish as much as you and I

Yes indeed, I remember well the bluefish chasing menhaden into shallow water. We would snag one for bait and cast it to where the water looked like it was boiling. You knew there was a big blue under there causing the menhaden to literally dance on the water. That slightly injured menhaden we cast into the action was soon hit and the fun began. We just subbed you and thank you for bringing back so many great memories for me.

Are ballyhoo any good as chunk bait or cut bait? I caught some from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge Fishing Pier in Tampa Bay before with my cast net and tried using them as whole live bait from the pier with no success. I was wondering if I should have cut them into smaller pieces or just stick with the green backs.

I'm interested in seeing how you hook the live bait to your line. I'm also interested in seeing what you catch. Fishing on your boat would be nice too, but I'm sure that's not possible. When I lived in Fort Walton Beach, FL, I went on chartered fishing trips out of Destin, FL on a boat named Big John. We mostly caught Grouper and Red Snapper. Red Snapper is an awesome tasting fish and a lot of fun to catch. They're all fun to catch. Good memories.

I take my leftover bait bait fish and freeze them, then take a food processor and use the cheeze grader blade and run the frozen bait fish through it head and all, then refreeze it in whatever size container you like. This is the best (and free) chum that you can get.😊 you will need a good quality food processor to handle large amounts or it will burn up a cheap motor. Also this food processor would be dedicated for chum only, not used for table food!!!

we have a fish in nz that kinda looks similar to the ballyhoo called piper in nz except its a bit leaner where as the ballyhoo is a bit more fatter. many people uses cast net sometimes or drag nets to catch them but personally i prefer using a rod and reel lol
