    One of the first things that I saw when I started watching one of your videos was you throwing a cast net...I IMMEDIATELY subscribed!!!!! It was a beautiful cast and you have shown many others in the many videos that I have watched. Having thrown (revised to "tried to throw")a cast net in my distant past...I can appreciate this video even more and wish you had been around back then!!!

    YEEHAW!! I finally got it! Was pancaking my 10 footer at will today on the boat. Thanx Deermeat. I literally watched every cast net video on RUclips and yes I do understand the part where you spin the net with your dominant hand right before the release of the lead line. For me I really had to concentrate on holding the lead line for that split second at the end of the throw to really get the back to open up.

    Great demo. One of the simplest methods I've seen so far. I like what one commenter suggested: use an outrigger clip around neck instead of mouthing the net. Prevents bacteria from entering your mouth.

  • @thilltony3362
    @thilltony3362 5 лет назад +4

    Rob,
    Great video. I grew up in FL and use my teeth also, but I was taught to grab the net a little differently, by the lead line only. By your grabbing it higher up in the mesh, you get a pendulum effect, and your throws look effortless. I generally have to spin once to get my 10 footer to pancake properly. Your pendulum throw looks way easier!
    I saw how you split the net, and caught the leadline in your teeth, but couldn't really see where the grab was in relation to your teeth. I just know you grabbed it in the middle somewhere, and that you had the leadline between your fingers, but that's about it. If you could show that detail a little better, that would be awesome.
    Thanks for the great video. I'm hitting the subscribe button. I'll be binge watching soon!

    best technique and minimal strain on back, also holding on the left arm for a right handed person allows better fidelity and sensitivity on the dominant hand for the right time to let go of the net which allows for a perfect pancake.

    Here in Broward the local code prohibits anything over 7' so no big nets for us. Everyone seems to throw big nets from the left side, whereas I learned on smaller nets from the right side (with the net and coil loaded in right hand). I've tried from the left but after 30+ years on the right, it feels crazy on the left.

    Man you get a great spread when you throw. There are so many videos on throwing nets. I think you kinda rushed through the steps a bit when you were separating the net into two areas and then grabbing it. I have no idea how I am supposed to grab the net with my right hand and the lead line with your demonstration, just a little to fast on that part. Thanks for making this video. I'll move on to the next one. I've always thrown small nets. I think I'm ready to graduate. I'm inspired by your awesome mushroom open.

    slow motion (my thinks): you have 1-anchor point in your month and two pendulums with different length in your arms. the shorter pendulum was going faster and forward right to the boat (what is physically natural for shorter pendulum). The longe pendulum was going later to the left fwd side (because it was slower its angle was close to left than to right side). As a result, your net was stretched by 2 weight inertia forces of pendulums and one fix force in your month ~120 deg angle.

    One thing I learned the scary way. Don't use a slip knot on your wrist. Just size the loop so it goes around your hand and not come off easily, but not cinch down. I once threw my 12' mullet net over a manatee just before sunrise. I think it had been asleep. As slow as those things are, when they are scared, they can MOVE! It yanked me off my feet, like I was tied to a boat. Fortunately, the net slipped off of him, and I wasn't drug or drowned.
    Just thought I'd share that with you. My new 8' net has a neoprene loop that stretches around my wrist and could definitely be escaped from if needed. Could save a life one day, maybe mine.
