I always like to think Baal walked in to take the stone from Marius, but Marius mistook him for Tyrael. So Baal was like "hold up, I'm just going to roll with this it's going to be hilarious".
baal, lord of trollstruction
@@zach942 He is the Lord of Destruction. Both physical and mental. xD
😂😂😂 indeed iaurius is what keeps me interested
Lmfao
No he disguised himself like that
Fun fact: The warrior sticking the soul stone in his head wasn't planned by the Diablo dev team. That was an idea from the cinematic team. When Brejik and the team watched the cinematic for the first time they were totally shocked.
Wasn't it even more random? I think I saw of video of old Diablo devs saying "They showed us an intro video (the first one) and an ending video (The soulstone smash into head one) and then they told us "make a game around this!""
@@Ryukasan1 I'm pretty sure the ending came last - the devs were sitting around when they saw that one and were mind-blown. It's been awhile since I saw the interview, though.
Iirc it was at the very end of development when they received that ending cinematic and I think the dev team were actually upset because the cinematic guys didn’t do what they were asked, and there was no time to change it before launch. I guess the ending was originally supposed to be more hopeful but the cin-team were like “fuck that pussy shit” and cranked out this one instead, presumably while listening to death metal and smoking copious amounts of cigarettes.
Time stamp?
Tbh it doesn't make much sense within the context of diablo 1 alone. But I've to say, that without it, the story wouldn't be so iconically grim and dark. As asmon said, sometimes things are just the way they are and it works lmao
To this day, Baal remains the most entertaining villain in the franchise. "I shall take your position into consideration" *blows the guy the fuck up* "Well, it seems your terms are not acceptable lol"
The guy is literally the only one in the entire story who seems to actually enjoy himself. Every other character is always serious to the fullest, but Baal is just trolling whoever he can. He couldve just killed Marius and the Barbarian emissary, but chose to fuck with them before just for the lulz.
this is what makes the Emperor from Star Wars so enjoyable as well.
He also just sits around laughing and throwing mooks at us in the Throne of Destruction, and during the entirety of the Worldstone Keep he just trolls a bit with random slap ghosts that come out of nowhere echoing his laughter. Everyone else in the Eternal Conflict is fighting out of obligation and grumbling the entire time while Baal is having fun with what he's got.
For those that thought it was cool that The Wanderer was the Warrior from Diablo 1, the other two characters became bosses in the game as well. The Rouge became Blood Raven in act 1, and the Sorcerer became The Summoner in Act 2.
Fun fact: The voice actor of Mathael (Paul Nakauchi) also voiced Hanzo in OW and Lei Shen in WoW. He's pretty badass dude.
For anyone interested, Imperius didn't fight Diablo in that cinematic in the Heavens. He fought ALL of the major demons, Diablo, Mephisto, Baal, Duriel, Andariel, Azmodan and Belial combined. That's why he has that form and that's why he rekt Imperius.
Since Andariel was the first of the evils to fall, she likely had some influence on the Prime Evil's form, and with the host being female as well
@@reap3rofd00m3nope, if play or check the wiki articles you will find that Lea is Diablo's daughter.
@@MalekitGJ @MalekitGJ And her mother was Adria, she was made to be a host for Diablo's soul, her fate was sealed from the beginning. Poor girl...
The destruction of the worldstone was more impressive in the original cinematic. The end was more impactful, the shards flying off with the light explosion but then receding was just so atmosferic. It still ranks high on my all time favorite cutscene. The music, the chanting, the lightning effect, just wonderful
yeah and I preferred the old Tyrael. They kept him more obscured which added to the mystery. Also, the long ass tentacle angel wings were so unique and cool to Blizzard's depiction of angels
Atmosfere
@@Grumbledookvid they are in d4.
@@expressrobkill yeah I know and that's good but I hope they keep angels mystical and scary
They ruined alot of parts of d2's cinematics
I love the realization at the end of D3 that the cutscene @47:16 is actually Azmodan speaking to Diablo.
I never even thought of that
He envies Diablo. He wanted to be a prime evil "Lord of Titties"
Yeah he’s like “you thought you were slick makin a baby for a vessel then getting us all in one stone huh, well nah, I’M gettin the stone first”
@@figuures6098 Haha, right?! He is so arrogant and caught up blasting Diablo for the events of D2 that he reveals his entire plan to humanity without a second thought. So good!!
oh yeah he says "OUR brethren" which doesn't make sense if he's talking to Leah. great catch!
"Even in a heart of heaven, angels can still feel fear" by corrupted Leah voice is the best line in games history
The end scene of diablo 1 still gives me chills to this day. I miss being a kid.
D2 was my first as a kid. I remember being terrified of fighting Diablo for the first time. Having to turn on the lights in my room and turn down the volume. Inching closer to the last seal before.. "note even death can save you from me!" That line still gives me chills.
"Imperious went down like a bitch. I thought it was more of a fight." To be fair, Diablo had absorbed the souls of his 2 brothers and 4 of the "greater" demon commanders, so basically had the strength of 7 of Hell's strongest demons in a single body.
Sure lorewise it was appropriate. It still sucked ass as a cinematic. After all the buildup of the ultimate mega super evil... he shanked a dude that has difficulty moving horizontally without first moving vertically (seriously is Imperius a really crap FF dragoon?) and then bad breathed him and his overcompensating door down. If they had made that shit his lightning breath people would have lost their minds.
@@Reshapable Agreed... adding some extra "dazzle" to Diablo's attacks to emphasize the power concentrated inside would have looked pretty cool.
It was Imperius vs. the god of evil in the setting at that point.
he was the reincarnation of dragon of evil Tatamet
Imperius really isnt a match against base diablo. Imperius almost died the last war if his brothers didnt come to his rescue. Then proceed to kill diablo instead of sealing him setting the course to all diablo franchise. Base diablo is greater than imperius.
The basic premise to the end of D2 is that even though your character slays Baal, you were too late and he had already corrupted the World Stone, which would turn Sanctuary into a permanent outpost of Hell. Tyrael destroys the stone to prevent this from happening, but (if I recall correctly) its indicated that its not known what the results will be in the future.
which is why humans were gaining latent power back and becoming nephalem again in d3. Ive been playing d4 and they are conveniently not using the word nephalem lol.
@@fedxpro yeah it’s weird… the D4 ‘recap’ kind of lore just says the ‘heroes’ despite the fact even in D3 the Nephilim was made a huge deal.
Perhaps they concluded that the nephilim was a bit too high fantasy, kinda having that ‘chosen one who can destroy or save’ vibe, and they wanted to return to a slightly more grounded angle? You do extraordinary things, but you’re still a *normal* human.
@@bromora989 Or maybe there are enough nephilim running around that they aren't considered as 'world saving important' as in the last game. 😂😂
@@fedxpro The nephalem was really really badly implemented. After all, while calling the player character that and attributing all their success to that... you fight through a haunted wood full of dead nephalem. Who are basic ass skeletons and ghosts. There's a huge disconnect in their usage of the title. And I'm well aware of it's full idea within the lore, it doesn't change the fact that it's poorly used in D3.
D4 was pretty screwed either which way, because by all rights there should be more super powered people running around if there was to be any narrative consistency, but the xmen of it all really sucks for a Diablo plot. Honestly the destruction of the worldstone was always sort of a shitty placeholder ending and unfortunately nothing since has benefitted from it, only been held back.
@@eewweeppkk You won't find me disagreeing. Far as I'm concerned it's a reboot. The only strong ties it has to its history are a few names. It's very different tonally, it's objective (aside from collecting money) is unclear, it's art is... I had a big long rant about the art only to realize it doesn't have legs, arpg's just do not excel in artistic depiction which is why the tend to look so similar and almost all end up with cluttered messy screens.
Regardless, as you say the timeline is also nonspecific. We know it's after 3 and we have a measure of how long after via Lorath's age. Assuming you played d3 and actually remembered who the fuck Lorath is. I suspect very few did. And thats it. It's all you have to go off of. Does it matter when it's taking place? Depends what they want to do with it. And going by what's been done so far, I'm gonna say no. And that doesn't feel great.
Because it doesn't feel like the events of 4 are happening because of anything. Even 3's terrible plot took the past into consideration, tried to make a cohesive narrative such that 3 was the natural followup to 1 and 2.
4? Oh yeah... Stuff was fine maybe and then man sinned probably and brought this long long long lost demon next to noone should have any knowledge of anymore back from the unexplained to do the unexplained by employing the powers of the unexplained to prepare for the... Right now apparently. The big bads are on cooldown and nobody wants to talk about why. But hey there's this prophecy a guy who avoids all socialization for maybe millennia had for some reason that sets things in motion (making it less of a prophecy and more of a command?) And gets the patron-not quite deity of a class we can play killed... Somewhat begging the question what said class is capable of when their semi-apex just... Dies offscreen.
God this is way too long. Stupid insomnia...
I did play D2 (and a tiny bit of D1) and I still forgot the massive difference in tone jumping to D3. The first two were completely dark fantasy, grim and gritty. On the other hand, D3 definitely shifted to a high fantasy feel. Despite all the destruction it just didn't have the brutal impact of D2.
I couldn’t get into D3 , I called it WoW graphics. Now you can say it’s Fortnite lol
@@tyler7059 I cared about none of them because they felt like cheap extras because they WERE cheap extras. Nobody cares when you kill red shirts unceremoniously. Act 3 had one dark moment and it was the fucking fart demon of all things and in a journal entry. It was the only time I felt ANYTHING in the entire story. Also Act 4 was not dark at all, it was scooby devil trashing the fine china and spouting Shao Kahn taunts (Kahn's were better). Act 5 was... better. But still not good. Because it was still goofy as hell.
@Tyler doesnt matter how many innocent deaths, the art direction was completely deviated from the first 2. and it lost that atmosphere and impact.
@@HyphyeeFB it's funny that people say it's WoW graphics even if it's nothing like WoW graphics. I prefer to see shit and not having everything blurred by 10 pixels that make up the screen. It's just not edgy enough for you people that's it.
@@raydafuq3570 LOL. And you could see anything under the layers of floor effects, spell animations, auras and explosions? Even without remaster, there was far more visual clarity in previous games.
Important thing to note about Imperius vs Diablo. Diablo was fighting with the strength of all 7 Evils. Imperius was fighting with the strength of 1 out of 5 Archangels. Absolutely massive power difference.
Everyone talking mad shit on imperius, but he's still alive even after going head to head with one of the most powerful beings in the franchise.
1990 to 2005-ish was an amazing period of development in gaming. We went from the likes of Neverwinter Nights (AOL) and Wolfenstein 3D in 1991-92 to World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 in 2004.
I'd say up to 2008
@@crayzelyfe9389 True, first Assassins Creed man... FREE ROAM? You mean I have open world and I can CLIMB AND JUMP, I can enter some buildings??? Shit was so amazing. Nowadays, games are very similar, and focus is not on the story, but on the graphics sadly :(
Remember when video games were made with a vision and passion?
Watching this for the first time on release day was just amazing... 1996 wasn't THAT long ago ;)
That’s 27 yrs ago.

"I am Justice itself"
It's hard to come up with a line more badass than this! until I heard "No one can stop, Death".
Hahahahahaah whoever said
“don’t smoke that” as he was by the portal deserves a standing ovation! Omg that was hilarious!!!
The Wanderer is the Hero of Diablo 1. If you remember that short end cinematic.... he mentioned he could feel him inside him, and he needed to travel East to find help....
In Diablo 2, the reason that I attributed to Marius following the Wanderer and doing whatever stupid things he did was because Diablo and Baal were using some type of magics to influence him. In the opening cinematic, after the Wanderer sucks his soul back in (it looks a bit different if you look at it) and he starts to walk away, when he looks back towards Marius, you hear a very faint whisper saying "Marius...". Then when he's inside the tomb and pulls the Soul Stone from Baal, I always assumed the whispers and images of Tal Rasha pushing out of the twisted, demonic body were illusions meant to influence Marius. Let's face it, Marius wasn't already extremely mentally fucked up from what he saw in Diablo 1 and isn't very smart, so using illusions to trick him would be extremely easy... even easier for one of the Prime Evils, very likely.
They didn't need to use magic, was my interpretation - it was the foible of mankind that lead to him following along. We're curious creatures and often do things for no reason at all or for all the wrong reasons, etc...
@@matthewcarroll2533 Normally when I hear things being said in a whispering, creepy way in various media, it seems to normally indicate magic or some type of supernatural influence. But you could totally be correct.
the very important part is when marius says: why do things happen as they do in dreams. Asmon for whatever reason interprets it as why do things happen as they do in life which completely ruins that idea of marius not being in charge of his own will at that moment, he just subconsciously knew he had to follow the stranger because, you could say, it was destined to happen.
@@alcatrazjames2298I think Asmond take works.
Why things happen? I don't know. If it was destined to happen, how would a mortal comprehend it was?
Before the Internet End Screens could only be seen by completing the Game! The feeling of satisfaction you got from being one of the few to actually see it was immense!
you didnt need the internet to read the disc
The Cinematics for d2 remastered made the game feel epic. It's truly badass that the wanderer was Aiden, Leoric's oldest son harboring the very essence of Diablo the lord of Terror
I remember when Diablo came out, I used to take the instruction manual with me to school and read all the cool lore and look at Metzen's amazing art. In Diablo 2, we finally got to meet Tyrael and he was even more epic. That's why as shit as D3 was, I love the cinematic where he falls down to earth. "You cannot judge me, I am justice itself!"
diablo 2 story telling was S tier
Tyrael destroying the worldstone was more epic in the original version. The wings there were just mystical. Ethereal.
1:01:48 In case no one has answered yet, diablo immortal is surprisingly canon, it takes place between 2 and 3
47:52 first time playing... I thought Azmodan was referring to Leah outwitting them but of course Diablo was inside her so I assume Azmodan was talking to Diablo himself... lol
These diablo 2 cinematics bring me straight back to Elementary school. Thanks Asmon
I love how id diablo 1 you ultimately fail, more games need to be like that, you dont always get a happy ending, you started in fear and you end in fear. so good
lord of terror at work, fine work if you ask me.
"Eternallightprotectsme, eternalligthprotectsme, eternallightprotectsme..." Followed by the best delivered line in the history of Diablo, "There is no light here; you came to the darkness." That line is so good, and delivered so well.
22:52 "TAKE THE STONE AND RUN!!" Every time I hear that line, it seems to reverberate throughout my very being; the voice acting in this series is absolutely PHENOMENAL!
Mystery has its charms where you piece the story on your own way. A big precentage of games today lack that aspect and everything is pin pointed and it gets boring easily... I am surprised you haven't played D1 and D2 and Gothic 1 and 2.... cool reaction keep it up Asmond! 💪
Gothic 2 is underrated. I wish they did a faithful high budget rework of that title.
Maybe even and that is a dream of mine. Combine Gothic 1 and 2 since they play in the same gameworld anyways. How amazing would that be?
“The black soulstone must be hidden”
Eerily reminds me of:
“Cast Nidhogg’s eyes into the chasm” lol
To be fair.. Marius was being manipulated by two of the Prime Evils. Some of the most powerful beings in this universe. Even the Lesser Evils could have pulled this off with ease.
Really love that you took the time to do this
The monk for the D2 expansion cinematic has a MONUMENTAL set of balls. Dude knows he's dead before he goes out the doors. Goes out there nonetheless and and tells the Lord of effing Destruction to piss off.
He redefined the word Chad.
Warrior isn’t the cannon class. They were all there. Fun fact the summoner is the sorcerer from d1 and the blood raven is the rouge.
Thanks for watching my video, man.
I'd love to see the Tyrael weapon illusion in WOW as a promo or something. Such a dope weapon effect.
@Asmongold you say in the D2r intro cinematic that there is no one talking in the background. While it probably was cheaper that way, its also just Marius telling Baal about it from Memory what happend. I think you would also not remember every background noise in every memory, only if it was loud there or not, so it sort of makes sense that He had no memory of the chatter in the tavern.
10 year old me was changed forever when the warrior from D1 shoved the stone in his own head...hooked to the series forever at that moment. D2 still the best game of all time for me for many reasons.
marius looks way more scared and gone mad by the end in the vanilla version tbh
I think the original versions benefitted from the major uncanny valley effect of all the characters being early CGI.. It enhanced the weird twisted nightmare effect of the whole thing... When comparing the two I also noticed that quite a few of the shots had been reframed to be more easily readable.. Close ups arent as close, tilted angles are quite as tilted.. It makes the cinematics more impressive and enjoyable, but it takes away some of the impact.
Asmon's reactions to these cinematics is like a man discovering the concept of tone in storytelling for the first time 😂
D2 beginning cinematic is an all time classic.
diablo Cinematics are movie level for sure
I love the Diablo 4 opening. It has serious Hellraiser vibes.
Tyrael at D3 end game be like : "Lorath, my stomach feels strange."
Oh man! This Diablo Cinematics reflection is so sick! Damn, it gave me chills just remembering when all of these came out!
damn tyreal just said gg go next and reset his world seed at the end of D2 💀
Blizzard used to create the most stunning, beautiful and immersive virtual worlds in the gaming industry. Gamers used to trust and anticipate their every move. Blizzard used to be respected and trusted by gamers, but now it is a pitiful shade of their previous glory. R.I.P. Blizzard.
Kinda like everything in the world
Diablo 4 feels like a return to form
@@HelplessTeno disagree. It's a great game
@@HelplessTeno they are still balancing it, stop being a drama queen.
You either die a hero, or live long enough to be the villain.
“Metal AF” is pretty accurate for D1 and D2.
id say its fitting for d2s gameplay, but d1 and the cutscenes of d2 arent metal, they are a dark gloomy hallway filled with despair and horror. D1 in particular is the atmosphere of someone sitting in a dark tomb deep underground, huddling in a corner, too exhausted to cry anymore, well aware that the world as they knew it is gone.
If ever there was a line that hit the hardest from this game, its "You cannot judge me! I am justice itself!"
54:50 the fact that Tyrael gave the Baal soulstone quest to Marius, a poor wreck of a mortal, is the only prove we need to say this: Tyrael isn't Wisdom and shouldn't be.
I've been waiting for someone to do this.
One of the biggest criticisms of Diablo 3 was that it was not dark enough and cartoonish. The cinamatics were just as dark and I think the gameplay looked cartoonish because of the jump in graphical quality and variation in color.
There is a missing cinematic for the announcemrnt of D2 where The Wanderer was on a carriage and it had some narration.
Although it has... dubious canonicity
I'm both so incredibly exciting and terrified of how Tyrael will react in the expansions when he returns and hears of Donan's death. He practically raised both him and Lorath entirely.
I was so passed when they killed Donan. I really liked him and he had a lot of character growth only to be killed by a living pillar. So lame.
Aren't they planning on releasing another class at some point? Any thoughts on what it might be? I personally was really hoping for a paladin but Idk if we're gonna get that.
That Inarius cutscene really hits different now lol.
They should have started with all the Character Class Intro cinematics then the Cinematic of Act 1 etc etc.
Wouldve loved to see him react to the carbot ones too. I love the Reaper of Souls carbot one.
Thanks for doing this gg zac
The number of ads should be criminal
The last d4 cinematic was so fucking good.
holy shit the remastered d2 cutscenes are crazy
The cutscene for Lord of Destruction will always have a special place in my headcannon. Baal's presence was legit intimidating.
If you pay attention to the story, Marius was confused and following The Wanderer because he saw the weakness and struggle he was having, he thought he "had demons of his own" but he didn't think it was literally a demon/Diablo. He was super high when the tavern got burned down and he was compelled by the power and whispers Diablo was sending to not only The Wanderer's mind, but also Marius'.
In the Act 2 scene where The Wanderer says he's looking for his brother, he was already completely consumed, but Marius thought he was still hanging out with his new found and probably only friend, and he literally thought he meant his brother. He had the dreams/visions of Tal Rasha struggling against the demon, and it's here I think we see that Marius understood something greater (good vs evil) was occurring, but he still wasn't considering that The Wanderer was evil. He thought "brother" was Tal Rasha. So then Baal (the person possessing Tal Rasha's body, because Tal had ultimately lost the fight and was consumed by the soulstone/Baal within him already) was projecting Tal Rasha's soul that he already consumed, looking like an innocent victim, "Help me, release me," Marius thought he was saving The Wanderer's brother. He was, in fact, but Marius didn't know it was Diablo/Baal at that point, he thought it was just that random dude he met when he was high in the bar, and thought since they both had similar looking struggles that he was helping a friend's brother. THAT is why he pulled the soulstone.
Don't be upset if you didn't get it right away, it took me ages to figure that out, and a buncha gamer-leetists will tell me I'm wrong but those gamer-leetist don't pay attention to lore, sub-lore, and background stories. So it's cool.
Basically, Marius was really bad at deception and perception checks.
Just finished playing daiblo 2&3 for the first time with my brother in law in prep for 4! Couldn't get 1's multiplayer working but wanna play through that too.
Wc3 TFT cinematicss blew my mind as a kid, and still blow my mind today. So good.
@asmon when Marius took off the yellow soulstone from Baal, he tought that the entitiy was Tal Rasha, Baal was hidding his true identity when he entered Marius' room too. He was an expert deceiver. Humans could be easily fooled by entities like Baal.
I was five years old when Diablo 1 came out holy crap. I feel old af.
The animations and cutscenes of diablo 1 were just terrifying and satanic in their style. Just look at the how freaky the diablo animation was
“Necro doesn’t look fun.”
*plays a whirlwind Barbarian*
It could be nostalgia, but the original Diablo 2 cinematics really seem better. Maybe not technology wise, but the characters really seemed to convey more emotion and evoked more atmosphere than the resurrected ones in my opinion.
After all these years, and the clear inspiration for Leah's transformation, Evil Dead, you'd think people would've found the attention to detail of Diablo taking on a different form from the vessel he had possessed. I thought it was stupid when I had initially saw that cinematic, and after a while I had to come to accept the concept behind it, and it was all for continuity.
In D2 he was the wanderer. Some frail looking dude in a cloak and then transformed into a gargantuan demon. In D1 it was a child that transformed into a hulking demon once again. The form changing depending on the vessel is just something they made up for the game because they wanted a feminine Diablo. I don't really care, but it's not people misunderstanding or not noticing 'detail', its them calling out sudden changes in lore because Blizzard wanted a female Diablo.
@@hagan3151 True enough, can't argue with that.
@@Downsider24 yeah and to be honest, I never liked the bulky overly large designs. I actually prefer D3s Diablo lol

Leah's uncle at the start of Diablo 3 not wanting to leave his desk be like "Everything not saved will be lost"
If I remember correctly, in the old cinematics for D2 when Diablo takes his true form and walks to the gate - the whole video shake, as if the world trembles from his steps. A small detail but really adds on to the badassnes
The D2 cinematics are so heavy with atmosphere because of the great dialogue, the great voice acting/narration, and the fact that we're seeing the epic war between angels and demons through the eyes of a normal schmoe who is powerless to fight back. It's bleak because the narrator, like 99% of humanity, is powerless in the face of Heaven and Hell, but he's caught in the middle regardless, and can't escape. The dude's not a hero, he's an insomniac opium addict. Fucking awesome.
I spent countless hours on d2 but the atmosphere of d1 is unbeatable. There is an HD mod for d1 which is great.
It is crazy when you thing about it: Elias just needed 3 random dudes for the ritual ... like why did he need so much time
Dude the last cinematic I swear to god, the chant in the beginning is really something else
thanks for giving the kids part of the diablo's reality
Normal players can't get into lunch, but Streamers have no issue.
god these making me have flash back to days of sneaking on the ol gateway at night in the late 90s when i was around 7 or 8, especially after cable internet just recently came out and i didnt have to worry about the battle cry of 1000 robots when connecting to AOL
The whole maltheal cut with the soul stone was wow
Dude posted 5 Diablo videos in a single day
i remember playing D2 when i was 3-4 because my father doesn't when to play with me so he teaches me to play this instead.
it's so dark and grim then when I'm young and hear about D3 i was so excited but very disappointed when it came out and didn't play D3 in the end.
All angels and demons in Diablo lore always reincarnate, with a "timeout". Their real impact is control of Sanctuary. Inarius and Lilith squandered sanctuary by creating "the Nephilim", a being of significant powers.
Marius "what have i done to deserve this"
Followed a strikingly creepy and suspicious stranger across a continent for the hell of it
There's no dialogue in the beginning because Marius is recollecting his experience to Baal. So he doesn't remember or is of no import what people were talking in the tavern. The story writing was 10/10 in D2. It's a shame it went so damn south in D3.
not exactly just marius's fault he was just diablo's pawn all along
Marius from Diablo II was the Drunkard from Diablo I, the Drunkard could be found on the side of one of the houses in the town.
Not at all. The drunkard was named Farnham, who is deceased as of Diablo II. He and Marius are totally different characters.
2 was grate for one reason when you found something it felt good and you could feel a power increase. The skills was good but the item made you feel power
So this is where the acolyte drew inspiration from when they lit a stone structure ablaze - Ball incinerating Marius' prison.
In Diablo 3 demons look a lot like zergs while in Diablo 1-2 they had unique dark fantasy style.
And those cinematics where excellent, and the need to see the old cinematics from diablo 2
