Come join me as I flip through my freshly finished Travel Journal sketchbook.
We gathered together in Longford, Tasmania, for a 4 day retreat. We explored the grounds of Brickendon Estate, painted and drew endlessly.
If you'd like to watch a sweet little glimpse into the things I saw and did over the retreat, head over to this video: • My Time at ꕥ Fortuna A...
And this is the video I made when I was prepping for the retreat: • Get Ready For An Artis...
This art retreat is the first one (of hopefully many) created by Thali / thali.demeter

Your use of white space and contrast is BRILLIANT. Sophie, you are such an amazing artist. Love the donkey
ahh thank you xooxox
I think you need to change the title of this video from “sketchbook tour” to “ART BOOK tour”. Every page is better then the last!
Hehe!! This sketchbook defiantly has a LOT of 'finished' paintings, rather than my usual scribbly, messy sketchbooks :)
Such beautiful art Sophie and I want stickers of the donkey and the pink bee flowers, they are so fun and stylish!
Such a radiant and silly little blob of goodness you are, sophie. I love how each drawing, each painting, gives me a glimpse into your eyes of the world. It's so inspiring to look at what you've made, hehe! Every little doodle and scribble your brain creates is a goldmine for inspo. Your beauty shines through in your art. From one blob to another, you're amazing and never stop being you!
I see myself as a silly little blob, for sure! haha! Thank you so much!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Some much needed wholesome and bright content. Loved this tour! 🌷🌈✨
the way your polaroids match your stunning colour palette too!! obsessed
What a delight to watch it all ❤
I just love your sketchbook!!!! Thanks for sharing!
the one line chickens at the beginning are insaneeely good!
They're fun, aren't they?! :)
can't wait for the chicken passion to hit your other drawings ! they are sooooo cute
So beautiful! Would love to watch like a paint-with-me for the watercolors, just would love to see more of your process!! Amazing stuff!!
Thank you!!! I have a huge amount of videos on Patreon, some of them are paint with me vids :) just incase you're interested x
Your use of colour and contrast and composition is so exciting to me
Thank you!
Gorgeous paintings Sophie!😍
Thanks Jessica x
Oooh soo inspirational and beautiful! Just fell in love with your art! ❤❤❤
I love your sketchbook. The cottage page was one of my favourites. I also love the flat paintings and the very vintage vibe your book has overall.
❤❤ thank you so much!!!❤❤
You are so incredibly talented! This is a absolutely stunning sketchbook super inspiring ❤
Thank you so much ❤❤
So inspiring, your design sense really comes through in these spreads. Thank you for sharing your sketchbook ❤
I love your work! Very inspiring!
Loved your sketchbook tour! Thanks for sharing your beautiful paintings.
I can't resist a sketchbook tour !!
heheheh :)
It was so satisfying watching this tour!
I LOOOVEEEE the textures of the colours and how you leave the white the page like the baby cow
So beautiful!
Loved looking through your sketchbook Sophie! I especially like all the chickens you sketched - they're so cute!! It was such a great time 😊
Your sketchbooks are always such a delight to look at: the way you interpret the landscapes and vegetation, the colors you choose, the looseness... Ahhh, I just love it🥺🍂
Thank youuuu!!! 🙃💚✨❤️
Wow Sophie this is just GORGEOUS GORGEOUS! This is such an inspiration. Sketchbooks like this are treasures. You’re making us all want to go out and create. But I learned something new today………. You don’t have bumblebees 💔 …… I’ve made a couple of Victorian love letter pockets and trying to fold it was very challenging.
They're a pest in Australia x
Thank you so much!! The first time I ACTUALLY ever saw one was in New Zealand when I was 16 and they are so so cute! I've just learned that they are introduced to Tasmania and doing harm to native bees, which is awful :( Bees have it hard enough as it is!!
In Chile they have BRIGHT orange Bumbles and they are the endangered ones! Bees are just lovely anyway ❤❤
A haha is a lawn with a big drop along the boundary with a grass meadow behind so it looks continuous. It’s called a haha because people would continue walking along the lawn and not see the drop and they would fall over the edge in an ungainly heap making everyone laugh at them!!
I LOVE THAT! hahahahah!
your sketchbook tours are insanely inspiring! every little line is full of life, and the colors you use are so unique. even the palettes i would never think of putting together, you always make them work and it's all so beautiful! so glad that i've found your channel, it feels like i've found a treasure chest :)
One of my favourite things is to combine weird and wonderful colours together and figure out how to make them work! so fun :)
Thank you so much for your gorgeous comment x
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Your color combos have made me cheery, as I head out the door to play with art!
Wonderful! I love that!!!! Have fun x
What a lovely memory of your trip!! I really love the donkey (and I saw 2 donkeys today too in fact Patrick came over and was rubbing on me so I groomed him with the curry comb) - and I love that pig drawing too. And those chickens! I havent tried to draw chickens yet but I drew seagulls yesterday: tricky to get the shapes just right.. But you are better at drawing loose. I also noticed a page with mossy rocks? That really stood out as rocks are hard to draw, to make them look like rocks (or for me anyway)... I think i would have trouble drawing leaves on the ground too.. Its late spring here.. Flowers blooming. I love bummblebees! I used to see them as a kid all the time but I hardly see them anymore. 😢 i think too many people use pesticide...
Rocks are SO HARD to draw/paint for me, too! I'm trying to defeat my avoidance of them before I head to Ireland next month, because there are loads of rocks there haha!
Thank you for your comment! x
I'll be waiting your youtube~ Wow!!! fantastics~ your paitings is very lovely~
Whew, that was lovely! I enjoyed it very much. “Conblobulation” is a funny new word ala Sophie. Made me lol. You are really, really good with chickens and donkeys. I think you got those animal attitudes just right. I love what you do, Sophie. You always make me feel happy and very satisfied. Thanks! From Wisconsin 🐄 USA where we’re heading into summer. I’m almost done with my flower pots. I’ve found it’s easiest to pot flowers that will surround a little wooden porch. I call it my bower. Bower Flower Power! 🌼🌿🌸
Hi Mara!!! ahhhh your Bower Flower Power place sounds so cosy and dreamy!!!
Thank you ALWAYS for your jolly comments! They make me happy x
@@SophieMcPike Oh, you’re so nice! 💜💜💜
😮ooooh, all your illustrations make me smile! I love how you express yourself on each page 😇😊😊!!
Oh thank you!!!!
Wowww what an amazing book filled with so many special treasures!✨ I love the whimsy in your sketches💞
Really crushing on you and your art today!! 😜
Sophie, gorgeous as usual....
Sadly for Tassie, we have the Bumblebee. But it was carried in illegally or accidentally. Most likely from NZ. They're a pest here. They're a threat to native bees and the environment and to agriculture. Let's hope they never get across Bass Strait to Mainland Aus! As cute as they look, they don't belong in any parts of Aus.
Enough preaching lol.... i really adore this wholesome sketchbook x Nell.
I figured they must have been introduced! Seems weird that they aren't on the mainland and only in Tassie. Good to know! Cute fellows, indeed.
xoxoox
The Coachmans cottage is hella good Sophie 🤩 (I mean it's all good but that illustration is just marvellous and I want it on my wall)
Thank youuuuu! I really like that spread too :)
I love everything about this sketchbook. (I even upgraded my Patreon tier to snatch that print/sticker!) If you turned it into a book, I'd be on that presale list for sure. I really enjoy how many different supplies/styles you used throughout, so much visual interest...and all of the color palettes are sooo soothing.
P.s. Conglobulation is my new favorite word.
I would LOVE to turn it into a sketchbook zine one day soon! :) Thank you Candice xoxoxo
Love the hydrangea. The structures are called pergolas. Looks like a wonderful retreat. The chickens and farm animals are adorable. Beautiful sketchbook! Inspiring. Thanks for sharing!!
PERGOLA! that's the one! haha!
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that y’all don’t have bumble bees in the mainland of Australia?! What? How? Who is doing all the pollinating around there? Fairies? Yes. Of course it’s fairies. Although I also only learned that the UK doesn’t have raccoons or bears. I learn so much from RUclipsrs😂
Anyways…
Truly a work of art on every page-finished sketch or otherwise! Those golden hour drawings and all the donkeys and cute fluffy chicken butts!😍🐓🍑
We don’t have squirrels either! And I’ve never seen proper snow! Hahah! BUT we do have the most amazing kangaroos, koalas, wombats, dingos, emus, birds etc etc etc! Hehehe
💚💚💚💚 thank you Debbie! You’re lovely x
Your chicken are so cute! 😍
ADORE THIS!!! AND YOUUUUU
Hugsss ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Your videos always make me happy. You and your art are like a ray of sunshine 😊 and I can’t get the onion paper book out my head I must get one. Though I don’t think my art would make it anywhere near so pretty
Oh thank you! I'm so close to finishing the onion skin journal! It was been so much fun to play in
Love this!! ❤❤❤❤🎉
Love uuuuu ❤️❤️❤️
Gorgeous!
I always love seeing in your sketchbooks, it's so inspiring ❤
❤❤❤❤ thank you!
Really beautiful 😍
Wowowow this video just like your sketchbook is so happy and inspiring! I am eager to know what kind of watercolours you used so I'm off to go watch your other video with preparations for the trip now :) GORGEOUS colours and art as always.
I used winsor and newton watercolours :)
Thank you so muchhhh
Woooow wonderful 😉
Ooooohhhhhh I was waiting for this!! And it doesn't disappoint, as usual. I think the thing I love most about any of your sketchbook tours is the variety of treatment you have on yours pages. So like, on one page you can be so loose and scribbly, and then suddenly the next page has some detailed, layered masterpiece on it! And then you have your swatch pages colour tests... It feels like the sketchbooks are kind of alive and breathing, there are the slow, soft breaths, and then the sharp intakes of delight when a picture makes you go 'ohh that's beautiful!!' And then it's calm again and so on. It's really so beautiful Sophie! I can't help but completely devour every video you do. XD
Ahwww you’re the best! I love the way you described the flow of my sketchbooks! Made me feel good 💖 thank you, always for the love! I love devouring your videos too! 🌼
LOVE the whole sketchbook, but those graphic novel-style sketches really spoke to me 😍 potential future scribble brigade theme??
OooOOO could be fun!!
Your art is a delight 🌈
❤ that's so nice to say! Thank you
This is so lovely! Thank you for sharing your sketchbook, it’s so beautiful and colourful and cool - and looks like you are too! Instant subscribe ❤️
Ahwww thank you xoxoxox
Your sketchbooks are full of magic✨ thank you for sharing❤️
Thank you so much ✨🧡🌼🙃
Just delightful as always! 😍
❤❤❤❤❤ Lobe love love
❤❤!!!!
Hey Sophie 🌼 I loved seeing all you have created it really carries the feel from the retreat! Do you have any video on you drawing with the tombows? I really enjoy the look of them in your drawings. I have never used my tombows for drawing but might give it a go.
Ah thank you so much!! Hmmm, I don’t think I have, not exclusively I don’t think. I do have a scribble brigade lesson on Patreon where I teach how to draw a flower field with layering. I use tombows for that!
@@SophieMcPike Found it Thank you 🤗
Beautiful joyful work. What do you mean by trying to flatten your work?
Just like blocks of colour, in a more illustrative way I guess. Just trying a different approach to my usual layering and hyper textured stuff :)
@@SophieMcPike thanks!
I love the colors you use. So warm and cozy... ^_^ What brand of colored pencils are you using in your sketchbook? They seem to layer over the watercolors quite well. :)
Prismacolors!!! 🩷
