"Sometimes my hand isn't making the drawing of my hopes, dreams and desires" - I really felt that. Nothing is more debilitating. I think that's why good art days: when the vision is clear, when the hand and brain and heart sing in unison, I think that's why those days are so sweet. They say 'The Muse finds you hard at work' and I think that's true; the bad art days are a little easier to bear and treat with permission to step away if we know that's the path to a breakthrough. I loved watching all of these unfold, but one of my especial favourites is the green lady with the purple bird. You make green sing, especially with this recent embracing of blacks and charcoals! 💖
This... this is exactly what I needed right now -- Seeing how you embrace drawing your comfort subjects and how you are so kind in encouraging yourself to create. It's the best. So many gems and great reminders in this challenge. Just sublime!
each observation was like a warm shower, an encouragement to accept what is without condemnation...to follow the flow regardless of outcome, ty... comfort zone zentangle patterns, nuerographic, collage with water colored painty paper towels & magazine bits...
I love love your work and you inspire me so much! I wish you’d come up with an art therapy workbook of sorts or something like that! I don’t know… Keep sparkling and sharing your incredible art journey with us! ❤
I really like magical fantasy and sci-fi stuff so my comfort zone is skulls, swords, armor, mushrooms, big moons and stars, swords in a stone, cute tree stumps 🗡️✨
gotta love synchronicity... for me this a 1st viewing of this sesh, a year past to others, & it encourages a part of me that has been dormant...& awakened, being playful is key. Ty
I so thoroughly enjoyed this, Sophie🥰 Everything from your beautiful sketching to your approach to creating with comfort and ease and being kind to yourself. If you’d have seen me watching this, and sketching in my own sketchbook, you’d have seen me nodding like a bobble head because I was like, “is this girl, living in my head- this is exactly how I feel about making art!”😅
Totally resonate with a 'bad art day' not necessarily meaning you make bad art! I've never know how to articulate that thought but you said it perfectly!
Loved how relatable this video was, Sophie! As a freelancer who is also in my 30's, I find myself constantly learning about the ebbs and flows of both my body and mind when it comes to the process of designing/creating. We need to embrace the 'bad art days' more, just as you said. Your narration throughout this video was so comforting - thank you for putting it out there! 🙂
this was a much-needed creative boost for my brain this morning! a beautiful start to the day! lots of giggles and lots of inspiration! thank you, lovely sophie! what a beautiful sketchbook time!
Comfort zone drawing... brilliant.. I've never heard anyone talk about this before. For me it's Egyptian style eyes. They are all over the house, staring at everyone lol. Love your stuff!
I found your channel couple of days ago. And I want to tell you your art is very beautiful, even the messy blobby ones. And it's so inspiring to see the process on how you do your art and draw in your sketchbook. I'm struggling so much with my art right now. I'm kind of a perfectionist, whatever I draw I want it to be good and perfect and want to create better, but because of that I kind of feel stressful, I feel like I'm not enjoying it. I want it to be loose but I worry about that it would be ugly and not upto my expectations. Seeing you paint and draw with blobs of Color is inspiring me to do it too but then in the back of mind I'm already thinking and planning how and what to do and make it perfect and better (which I don't want to do at all). Idk if I'm making any sense. I will watch your videos over and over to remind me to let go of my perfectionism and get loose. Always keep on making these videos. Love 💕
Your sketchbooks are just divine! And somehow make me feel seen? My sketchbooks are always filled with layers of sketches on the pages and I like to see that with some of yours too! Not being afraid to go OVER a drawing. And as always it's a joy to see mixed mediums on the pages. What a treat to watch! I don't think there's such a thing as a sketchbook fail.
Hi Sophie 😊 Just subscribed, like 👍 your style... funny, just yesterday I landed on a concept that folks from Australians seem to be hardier than other folks! The most poisonous critters live there too! So paint on Miss Sophie!😊
I adore all of your drawings and I just love love LOVE your attitude towards your own art!! It's so refreshing to see an artist truly enjoying their craft and just having fun. Your videos don't let me forget why I fell in love with art in the fist place, thank you!!
Sometimes it is great to do a quick art dump in smaller sketchbooks like these. You can go back later and do a more detailed piece using one of these pieces as inspiration. I loved your use of color. I think I’m going to try the color dump on some pieces to see if it helps me get inspired.
Hi Sophie!! I just wanted to pop in and leave you a little bit of love-I've been admiring you and your work and and been inspired by you on instagram for forever but I am now in the process of binging all your RUclips content and I am loving every video!! your positive spirit and sweet jokes and giggles are just exactly what I need for company while working on my own art ventures 💖 big hugs from a Canadian art friend 💕
Your art is so so beautiful ❤ Watching you draw is both relaxing and very inspiring. Drawing in my sketchbook after a long day at work is the most relaxing thing ☺️ so I can relate to comfort art.
My comfort drawing is potted plants with faces :-) they are so fun, easy, and cute! You inspired me to put watercolor down first in my sketchbook and then do colored pencil over top.. just need to do the colored pencil part 😊
Wow. *-* I don't think you realize what a treat this video really is!! ;D There is so much sublime wisdom in there, on art and sketchbooking, but also so much more! I loved every second of it (the warm overlay you always put on your footage...awhh) and I do find it generous you filmed so much of your process for us to see! Sometimes I wonder how you get these close shots where the camera was probably two centimeters from your fingers and pen, because it's so zoomed in and the amazing detail shots leave me in awe (juicy textures!!). Hoooow?? 8D - I always try to film like this but the camera is in my way and it doesn't work for me. I always say "when filming hinders me from creating the actual art, it's time to step back a tad" xD But you managed both perfectly, it seems. Well done! And I don't think you failed at this challenge either, you did sooo much and adapted the whole thing while you went along, made it managable. It's very honorable how you listened to your body and gave your wrists and bit of time off when you felt you needed it. Sorry to hear you have to struggle with that every now and then! Hope you feel better now.
I love this comment! Thank you so much!! Haha! Yes, sometimes the camera is about 5 cms away from the drawing and it can get awkward sometimes, but it's only for a few seconds before I put the camera away and get into the drawing/painting :) So glad the blobs are working for you!!
@@SophieMcPike hehe, my pleasure! ^^ and thanks for answering! ♥ aah okay, so you hold the camera with one hand and draw with the other for a few secs? :D sorry about asking in so much detail, but I'm still trying to find a tripod you can bend so perfectly close to the drawing xD I guess that's the way I'm gonna do it too (or continue to do it). :) Anyway, one thing's certain, I love your "cinematography" as well as your art - keep it up. I get so excited every time you upload. =D x
Thank you so much x it can be difficult sometimes! I go through stages of being super loose then I naturally tighten up, tighten up, tighten up and then I realise what’s happening and go back to loosey goosey
I like these kinds of challenges - I did a mini sketchbook slam a couple of years ago and I really want to do another one. But the sketchbook was so small but actually had a lot of pages so I felt pretty rigid. You've def inspired me to do this again but trry more mixed media and be a lot more loosey goosey with it. I still have not drawn on the first page of my current sketchbook which I started in December 2021! I have made them more scrapbooky which has helped me to be a bit less previous and not torn out any pages. Thankyou as always for sharing your sketchbook with us!
hihi sophie omigosh just sobbing over how super darn cute ur drawings are, and wondering what pencils u use? they look so satisfying to draw with! also mega excited to see ur stall at the finders keepers!💗✨💖💖💗✨✨
Sophie I LOVE YOUR WORK! Do you sell clothings with your prints? I am looking (desperately) for small artist with whimsical cozy fairy like art who make clothing they sell, because they need to dress myself or else I’ll be naked by the coming winter 😂 I would love to wear something with your art on! I love it!

Hi Sophie, my comfort subjects are birds, birds, birds mixed with big cats like tigers and leopards but it used to be exclusively curvy girls with big eyes until a VERY misguided art professor told me I'll never get anywhere drawing big, doey eyed girls which has haunted me for longer than it should of because I really used to enjoy drawing them but now anytime I try and draw them again he keeps saying that inside my head! Any tips on squashing silly critically damaging advice??? Always LOVE watching you draw by the way!
