This looks as if it was intended to buff the big primaris crusader squad units. Sad that GW just nerfed that unit to the tune of 40 pts. This detachment would have been OK with the points values of the start of the edition, but not now. Also, if you play Black Templar units, you forgo the improvement to Oath of Moment. I'm not sure that Templars are competitive in any detachment at the moment. Please prove me wrong.
Well...I was waiting to see this before I start writing my homebrew detachment. I appreciate the encouragement, GW! Lots of ideas about what to do and what NOT to do!
But assault infercessors on an objective are re-rolling wounds anyway and with a captain instead of the chap that just makes sustained so much better for the unit. Then also pop your free Strat from the captain for extra AP
Hey guys, i love all of your vids, but as a demons player i feel bad for not seeing their 4 new detachments reviewed. Are there any videos planned? Thx for all your effort!
I personally don't think the 1cp precision to the UNIT (that is 2cp in Vanguard Spearhead) is useless. It is situational, but on some big unit with 2 characters (orks, necrons, etc...) this can be quite clutch. Remove the 1 or 2 characters, then thin the herd.
Quite disappointed with this detachment. Every section I read I had hope it would turn around, but each section (rule, enhancements, and strats) was a disappointment. Really wanted some strat for either lance, lethal, or sustained to try and keep it at a somewhat similar power level to righteous crusade. Also sad the ignore modifier strat didn’t ignore minus damage. An enhancement for no overwatch would have been great. Back to the wait for the codex.
Seems kinda like a slightly less good sidegrade of GTF...not bad, but could definitely be stronger if over half the things are restricted to only 7 potential targets...
It's hard not to be disappointed by this detachment 😥 I understand the need to introduce a new/different way to play the army but with a choice of gladius or righteous crusaders arlready why would you ever take this. I dont think it would have taken much to actually make it strong and themaric without being too powerful. Obviously there will be strong detachments and weaker ones in the grotmas release, but it's hard when it's your army on the bottom rungs. BTs are the largest and potentially strongest chapter in the lore and it doesn't feel reflected. The righteous crusade is eternal! (Unfortunately)
I feel like GW is just gun-shy about certain factions, and BT is one of them. They're afraid to give them too much so they've just wasted everyone's time with this.
@RSBurgener yeah definitely agree. After seeing some really fun themed detachments I was really hoping that we'd get the same, maybe in the form of a chaplain focused one. Kind of like how the new BA one is focused around characters and heroes. There seemed to maybe be a lack of enthusiasm here lol in my not so professional opinion they really fell off the mark
@muratferguson4534 not the improved one no, "if your army does not include one or more black templar, blood angels, dark angels, deathwatch or space wolves"
😂 nah not even close. This detachment is at least usable with some pretty good rules that apply to all Black Templar keyword units, with a couple decent enhancements and a decent enough selection of strats for the most part. There are some detachments that aren't even playable from the Grotmas drop

You guys have been consistently putting out the best Grotmas review content. Great work! Excellent way to keep up with them and understand the rules.
Maybe next year flash the actual strategem/ enhancement graphics across the screen once or twice maybe in the corner when you're talking about them!

you can still field 6 x 20 man bricks with 80 points left over :P thats good enough for a warlord lol

Back to me daydreaming about a detachment focused on Standard Bearers giving off cool Auras.
Getting over the threshold with +1S and then +1 to wound with attached chaplains is the way. Suddenly chainswords are wounding a lot on 2+
3+ on termies 4+ to custodies
2+ to meq or worse
Ehhhh I think you had enough volume to throw into stuff anyway

I had set a low bar for BT to be pleased. As just wanted some variety away from Righteous C, but GW managed to get under that bar somehow
Precision against Necrons characters is extremely helpful.
This stuff doesn’t just buff the black Templars characters, it can be done on a non character led unit as well

Why is everyone complaining? Would you all prefer to get nothing until your codex?
@@13cowsonagrasshill93 it's almost nothing. We can't even really play it. That's the entire point, jesus man.
It's a win at least since it won't be in the codex 😂
@@cmtz2098 dude I'll take it if that's true. That's real talk. Sadly that's the best thing about it.

As a Templar player, im a bit sad, gw keeps nerfing us and then releases one of the worst detachments for grotmas. Very sad
No advance and charge? Our most expensive enhancement is a once per game fights first? WE ONLY HAVE 1 COMBAT STIM?
Seems meh...
It kind of reminds me of when the custodes codex came out.

i thought including all characters in your black templar army gives them the black templar faction keyword
No. Thats 9th edition. You can have access to improved oath of moments

lol right up until your Dante brick charges the fight first unit then you pop precision and ruin someone’s whole day seems brutal to me
