This detachment is good, but it requires a good player to use this effectively. This detachment is about building a huge Rube Goldberg machine to shoot things off of the table effecitvely. Having said that, this IS a good ruleset. It just takes some thinking ahead to use. Also, it's good at doing something that T'au generally is bad at, contesting and stealing objectives.
I like how flavorful this detachment is, even though GW hinted towards big shiny toys in yesterday's article which most thought were the bigger suits and tanks.
That kroot combo they talked about with the advance and charge on the strats work real well if you hit with a lone spear first and have a kroot flesh shaper also leading the 20 alien brick of kroot giving them sustained hits. Give one of the leaders the deepstrike enhancement and if you go first in battle round 2 rapid ingress them for free then you can use the -1 cp again in battle round 3. also if you have the cp to spare you can give them reroll wounds and/or +1 ap.
Krootox riders and rampagers were already quite nice data sheets, giving them a buffing aura, lone op and advance assault and charge is quite nice to include them in a more tau heavy list instead of KHP. You do lose the 5++ though.
i wanted this hybrid Auxillary detachment and I couldn't be happier.. love playing all detachments but personally love Kroot hunting pack detachment and still yet to loose a game with them. :D
20x kroot with guiding enhancement hitting on 3's and spend 1 ap for 20-40 shots, hitting on 3's and -1 ap ignore cover (if guided by markerlight) I think seems pretty decent vs infantry
Im excited to try out this detachment. For everyone crying over not getting what they wanted, get over yourself. We got new tools to play with for free. Its a good day
As a Tau player. With over 2000 points of Kroot I do like this detachment. But this is a massive miss for me. I get GW have made a lot of these and need to shift them but could have been more to do something for our big stompy boys.
I have too many armies waiting to be built on my shelves and I was doing a bit of an exercise thinking of what I actually want to do with them all, the stories behind them, and what I might do going forward. I've decided to stop building things worrying too much about if they'll be allowed at tournaments (I don't play in them too often anyway) and so I've been looking at various kits and things to someday buy for the conversion I want. I happened to be looking at my two Kroot Hunting Pack boxes when this dropped and I was thinking about converting dinos with Tau weapons to be things like Broadsides and Saurus as Tarellians for Fire Warriors. Put a small few actual Tau suits, like the Stealth Suits and Ghostkeel in. The idea being that they are essentially a force of mostly mercenaries backed by more clandestine units that can do things that the Farsight Enclaves can deny knowing anything about. I think this detachment rule might work really well for that army idea. If it ever gets to the table before the end of the edition and the detachments all go away 🤣
All for +1 AP and a limited lone op? No thanks. Not a merry grotmas. What a meme. In yesterday's tease GW asked is we were ready to play with our 'big' toys. I don't see that in these rules.
hammerheads, skyrays, and broadsides arent titanics and benefit greatly from the +1 Ap, the auxiliaries can mop up the enemies that don't need armor piercing.
With this detachment, some Tau units are great, others are just good. So when you make your list, you have to decide to go for the great or good.
BAN THIS MAN
@@ElGravy this is definitely not the first time he has made this joke
@@EscapefromCadia It is. That's me by the way.

I like this take a lot. We want good detachments that don't break the game, and give new styles of play. I think the auxiliary cadre provides that.

honestly this might become my go too detachment

It is a fluffy detachment but I wish they went further and gave tau access to a section of guard to use as gue'vesa

You can get in a transport. you cant if you got out of a transport same turn.

Still pretending the Eldar detatchment doesn't exist. Me too
My friend plays Daemons. This is pretty useless thanks to the Daemom Safe :)
Seems like another way to lose with kroot and vespid
Seems it can be deadly with the right finesse.

Boring detach :( where are big shiny things?
Big disappointment. Also, why the continued hate for the Stormsurge GW?!
World eaters are always last 😢
At least you still have a chance to get a good detachment. We had retaliation cadre gutted, and a useless detachment released right after.
Ugh, such a waste, really disappointing.
Well this was a fat disappointment:(
Love the vid though!:)
All the damned Space Marines get good things this Grotmas, while my Tau, Votann, and Sisters get absolutely shafted. Thanks GW.
*Looks over at Dark Angels who just got this detachment but worse* Yes, all of the Space Marines got good stuff. Totally.
