My pleasure brother. Can’t wait to see what you pick next. That knife was an amazing first pic so I can only imagine what’s to come. Great video. It’s an amazing feeling given knives to people. Jeff is actually the one who inspired me.
Knives are amazing gifts that may be passed on through generations. Imagine how long knives have been a valued gift and how valuable they were for literally thousands of years. Such a great youtube channel!
The first Spyderco I’ve actually swooned over. I held one last month and was very impressed. Despite its fairly intimidating size, it could qualify as a “gentleman’s folder” due to its understated, sleek, kitchen-knife styling. The price was about $155 at an independent retailer.
Please, when you do knife size comparisons line-up the Pivots. That will give a very easy comparison of blade as well as handle lengths.
I think the Native Chief is the best thing Spyderco has put out this year. I adore it.
Its great!
Bought one just for the looks. I love slow rolling it. You're right. People who aren't into knives could be startled if you open this in front of them.
I don't know what it is about that click, but when I open my chief or my chaparral, I always emit an, "ahhhh". It's such a satisfying sound and feel.
I picked up this knife last year, worked it in for a while and it practically drops shut when I press the lock bar. It won't cut your fingers if you rely on the jimped finger choil to hit your index finger, then you rotate and close the blade with your thumb.
It is a fantastic knife, reminds me of a greatly improved Benchmade AFCK. It carries better than a PM2 because there is no thumb ramp / hump, and the handle is also slimmer. The back lock is super satisfying and locks up solidly - this knife is more likely to break the blade than to come loose and fall shut on your fingers.
I really want a compression lock version of the native chief!!! Sweet knife!
Nice knife , long and still slender design. Like the front choil on the Spyderco's ,provides good grip. Thanks for yet another fine review sir ! (actually the Dolica has multiple unlocking choises, like that)
I love the fact that they designed the Chief to be a pure-bred cutter.
Jezuz that's a big knife. The Rat1 about as large as my pocket prefers, or a PM2, then I switch to fixed blades for the most part. Fine looking knife though, that Native Chief. Rumor has it that it's a popular carry choice by the kids that work in the Spyderhole plant in Colorado.
4 ounces, I like!
I'd like a sharpening choil though but since I like long, daggerlike blades I can look beyond that.
You knife review guys need to compare it to similar sized Spyderco's like the Military, Manix XL, Police and Resilience. I mean obviously it's bigger than the pm3.
Thanks MC! Perfect timing as always!
Any future plans of a comparison between this and the Millie or the Police?
14:30 Nope. 6-inch Hold Out or 5.5-inch Talwar are scary. 4-inch Native - not so bad.
Screw drivers are very stabby, but it's not ment for stabbing ofcourse
I like you're vid's
Benefit of this compared to a Cold Steel Recon 1 (spear point maybe the closest comparison)?
Hello . I was wondering since the Native Chief doesn't have stainless steel liners , does that give this knife a huge disadvantage ? Or are the G10 scales strong enough to maintain integrity from long use ?
I read a comment on a video that said this guy had stripped out one of his clip screw holes .
there's threaded metal behind the g10, the g10 isn't threaded.
@@guitarzarfun Do you mean its kinda like a plate since its not a liner ?
@@alcodie1558 There are threaded inserts on the backside of the g10. Sounds like your friend got heavy handed tightening them. all you need to do is put some blue loctite on the screw then hand tighten with a straight torx driver so you limit how much you tighten such a small screw/thread. Give it a nice bump and she'll be just fine. I have owned mine for 2.5 years now and I can assure you this knife is built extremely well. The fit and finish are immediately apparent when you first handle it. ZERO wiggle in any direction, not even a microscopic bit of play anywhere. It has a very satisfying "clack" when you open it. That lock ain't going anywhere! I don't know how they do it! It isn't a hard use prybar knife, but it is a single purpose tool, a knife! A laser beam cutter with killer feel, fit & finish. I find the shape of it quite appealing to boot.
Kind of a late reply, the screw holes on my Native Chief G10 have metal threaded inserts underneath the G10. If you shine a light, you can see the metal threads, then the layer of G10 on top. In other words, it's not just straight G10, there are metal threads that won't strip (as long as you don't turn the screwdriver too hard).
Also, there is zero issue from the G10 bending or flexing. I'm trying right now with my Native Chief and it's not flexing one bit no matter how hard I press on both sides, with the blade opened.
Great review. I like the knife and will probably have to pick one up.
At that size of a knife wouldn't it make sense to carry tip down ?
Lock should have been a compression lock, other wise I love it. ❤
Would make a great hunting or fishing knife . I think as one gets older ,big knives loose their appeal.
Thanks for the excellent reveiw .
Hey man gotta question for you...can you talk about or just answer this message, the edge geometries on the xm18's, their uses, what they excel in, weaknesses, etc? Specially the spanto, spear, slicer and sheepsfoot well all of them. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Vid coming Saturday 😊👍
Congrats on the new tape measure LOL
Would love an Emerson Wave opener at the end of this knife!!!!!!
I want waves on all Spydercos
Would love a compression lock version of this one!
@@mitch_edc Indeed!!!
Does it feel as durable as the Military considering it has no liners? I want to get one but that’s a concern for me.
It feels VERY durable. No issues without liners IMO
@@metal_complex Thanks MC!
Don't really care for the knife. But what an upgrade on the tape measure. You can actually see some of the markings on it.
how different is this from teh Shaman though?
Extremely. The shaman is shorter, thicker, and has a compression lock
I need a chief it's the native I don't have
Spider Co Perfected the folding knife when they made the PM2. No need to do anything else.
Ty for the video but apostle p selling a hinderer gen6 with the tool for 375
Lol the muscle to open and control the fingers are in your forearm
... that's correct... is there more to this comment?
Nope, your vids are great, physiology is my thing so just pointing it out. May have come across snooty, not intended 👍🏼
