Just gorgeous in every way. I've been lucky to acquire a La Canada FE17, which is of course a budget replica, but an utter delight to play. I'm a flamenco player who now feels compelled to study Tarrega more seriously. Hats off to M. Thames and your delightful performance demo.

I am afraid to say that both the year of manufacture of this Torres model is 1888 and Jose Romanillos who repaired the original states in his definitive work on Torres that it is catalogued as SE 117.
The original guitar repaired by Romanillos in 1989 when it was in a very poor condition. It was played on a CD by Tom Kerstens titled Serenade: Romantic Music for the Guitar tracks 13-17 ( Conifer Records CDCF 518 1993) I have made a copy less ornate than Michaels but more in keeping with the original which was a 604 scale length and originally was a peg head..( see Antonio Torres- Guitar Maker- His Life and Work by Jose Romanillos 1987)

It is erroneous to suggest that Tárrega played this particular instrument. According to Jose Romanillos the authority on Torres Tarrega’s favourite instrument was SE 114 which he is pictured holing in the iconic photo he posed for taken by Segura in 1901. Because it was his favourite,Tarrega’s wife kept it until after his death when she sold it for5,000 pesetas in 1920.
Yer are saying Tarrega never played this instrument, after Torres gave it to him at an early age? You have your facts screwed up, go back and read what Pujol wrote about this instrument.
Why is it erroneous? I would respectfully ask you to refrain from such comments on my channel. You may like to sound like some kind of scholar, but you are just making a fool of yourself. Tarrega received this guitar (FE17) from Torres in 1869. Romanilos states in his book, "According to Pujol, Tarrega played this guitar until 1889, when due to constant use, he was forced to replace it with another instrument by the same maker. Tarrega was reluctant to part with such a beautiful instrument, had untrusted it to the guitar maker Garcia so that he might carry out the necessary repairs, but his first attempt was unsuccessful. Years later Garcia succeed in restoring the guitar to its playing condition"
