    I'm in the middle of researching for an assignment into innovations into classical guitar making, and the differences compared to steel string acoustic guitars. Right before I rewatched this, I was reading about all the great luthiers featured here in Making Master Guitars. Ramirez, Hernández, Hauser, Friederich and Torres. This video made me gain a new found appreciation for why these instruments are as special as they are. Putting them into context, they come from a very different time, where you couldn't just make 2 guitars sound similar with post-production tweaks, so players would shop with their ears, picking guitars that suited the way they played and that's definitely something that I need to remember going forward, designing the next 2 instruments that will take me to graduation.

    Hey Rob - this is no doubt going to get buried in the comments but I thought I'd put it out there anyway:
    Since you've been doing this series of videos about different and interesting players and instruments, I couldn't help but think of my bass idol - Michael Manring. That dude is seriously an amazing player with a crazy unique instrument - the Hyperbass. It's a 4 string fretless, 3 octave bass with really light strings, outfitted with extender levers on EVERY string, a bridge that can shift tunings with a lever, AND a pickup for every string in addition to 4 body pickups. The way he approaches and plays the instrument and just approaches music making is astounding, and to top it all off he's a super down to earth guy!
    I think that if you could get in touch with him and sit down to chat about the instrument and his style, it'd be a really interesting conversation for people to see. He really pushes the boundaries of how I've thought about my playing and how i listen to music, and I think it'd be really amazing to see him on and spread his work around to others.
    Love your work Rob, keep the amazing content coming!
    Edit: thanks for the likes guys! I appreciate it and hope you enjoyed the new music - here’s hoping rob sees!

    I'm way late to this party, but what's even more special to me than the guitars is that there are other people who are just as passionate as I am about these instruments.
    I'll never be in a position to play guitars like these, but I would love to be in a room of acoustic/classical guitar lovers like these guys. I almost teared up when they said, "listen to what the guitar tells you to play"...I thought I'm the only one who thought that way. It's great knowing I'm not alone. It brings the humanity back into an otherwise robotic existence.

      @Vernon Wallis value doesn’t just depend on raw materials, it also depends on history. Francisco Tarrega’s Torres is not for sale but if it was I guarantee it would be worth a whole hell of a lot more than that. Also Stradivarius violins cost 10 million on average and some go much higher, the reason being that Stradivarius himself died before he gave anyone the formula on how to make violins with such superior tone quality, and even the most talented experts in the world haven’t been able to figure it out since. Because of this, the only Stradivarius violins with that superior tone quality that exist are the ones he made during his lifetime, which is why they start at ten million each.

      I have long believed "collector" is a form of obsessive-compulsive insanity. There are millions of dollars being paid for items every single day... and those items of themselves simply aren't worth it. But they're worth it in the insane battle arena of collecting. I can hardly wait for the wood on my guitar to develop a discoloring that looks like Elvis...

    • @MiloMcCarthyMusic

    • @randommodnar7141
      @randommodnar7141 3 года назад

      @Luther Blissett you do have to admit that the age of the wood used to build them does give them a uniqueness. Whether thats worth the millions people pay is up for debate but it is a tangible thing
