    As a life long scale model plane builder and amateur flamenco and folk guitarist, I was fascinated with your home-made precision jigs and other building solutions as well as the sureness with which to cut and shape materials. I wonder how Yamaha and other volume guitar makers automate the wonderful hand work of luthiers.

    Beautiful inspiring video. Love the way you use your tools and got your son involved in learning the joy of shaping wood. I think you could teach a lot on the use of tools - why you do smooth strokes. I like the book matching on the headstock. Got to admit that I like headstocks that are not book matched, if they have interesting grain etc. Looking at your jig I recognised that I don't need so many tools as I thought to build a guitar. This surely is harping back to some of the original techniques of building instruments, but you have a nice clean modern twist on it. Music was great. It completed the video very nicely. This video is very therapeutic.

    I love the way your jigs and tooling are so carefully and cleanly built. So many people's equipment looks like they threw it together to get it over with, but your care and thoughtfulness in the tooling must also come through in the finished product.

    Never, ever take guitar building for granted. I developed allergies to many exotic woods while at the same time got divorced and lost my home shop. Never got back into it after ten years. Sold all my tools and woods. It is a gift and a blessing. I still miss it. Enjoy it while you can. Thank you for sharing the video.

    Isnt the neck going to bow back because you're applying the fretboard to it and attaching it to the body before you're carving it? Good looking result though

      The concern is understandable but as long as the glue is dried and everything stable before carving there is no trouble. I still play this guitar daily and am very pleased with it after nearly five years.

    That guitar looks amazing, it sounds insanely good aswell, I almost feel like i want to start building guitars just because a whole lot of the guitars made today are either built mechanically by machines or they are built by hand, the only problem is, if you want a good guitar, you'll have to sell your liver and problaly one of your kidneys. And i would asume that it is a very nice experience to play a guitar especially made just for you, with all the small things that you really like. I think you should start making some building tutorial videos or something like that, i think that people would love to see that. There are not a whole lot of people making good tutorials on building acoustic guitars, as they are a whole lot more complicated to build than an electric, so i think you could problaly be really big in the whole youtube community, justa thought though! Amazing video dude, keep it up, well played aswell!

    Why is the neck formed after it has been glued to the guitar instead of being formed before?

    • @Stephenmboone
      @Stephenmboone  3 года назад +3

      I should have done a bit more before affixing the neck to the ribs. In this method of construction the neck is part of the body and not made separately to be attached later. There will always be some neck refinement needed after the body is complete. I left myself quite a lot of work here and would have been smart to shape things a bit more earlier in the process but it worked out in the end.
