  • Isabel Oakeshott joins Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan, discuss Labour’s plans for state-backed GB Energy to be based in Aberdeen.
In his first speech to the Labour Party conference since entering Downing Street in July, the Prime Minister said the agency “could only ever be based in one place in Scotland”.
Meanwhile, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took a plane to New York City to attend a mayors' convention on confronting climate change.
Plus, Emma Thompson and Gary Lineker join calls for an end to fossil fuel use.

Since the number of possible variables is almost infinite they are lucky to get anything close to right but the government still make decisions based on their report. His figures are all wrong too. A report stated that the output efficiency of wind turbines is not his stated 61% or better, it is more like 40% and his 'minimal' cost of maintenance after an initial build would be 500% more than he has allowed for . He seems to think that you stick a wind turbine up and then it produces energy for ever . I believe They have roughly 15 years of life and then must be replaced and the broken rotors are giant carbon fibre junk.
As for solar panels well this is Britain and it rains a lot here and is cloudy much of the time when not raining. So when its not windy or sunny, where is the energy going to come from?? Well we will likely be buying it as we do right now.

We don't actually contribute 1% to world pollution. Our contribution MUST include the manufacture, mining and shipping of goods and resources that we rely on. This has actually increased as goods we used to make ourselves are now made in China using energy produced using dirtier technology, and must be shipped. Also things like light bulbs which use much less energy during their life in operation but which use tens of times more energy to make and ship.
For the first time in 80 years, VW are closing two factories in Germany, while China ships cars made with cheap energy from brand new coal fired power stations.

It makes it cooler. (The antarctic temperature inversion I think it's called) So much for the "blanket round the earth" analogy. It's got a big hole in it sucking heat out not keeping it in.

We are talking about an absolutely ESSENTIAL and very natural gas that is only at a concentration of 420 parts per million in the atmosphere and that if it got as low as 150 ppm plants worldwide would start to die and the rest would be very stressed, a gas that by all accounts has been at very much higher concentrations in the past when life was thriving on the planet. Of the 400 ppm that currently exists in the atmosphere mankind, again by all accounts, is only responsible for a very small fraction of it, which is about 3%. So it's agreed by both sides that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere stands at about 0.04% and that mankind is contributing about 3% of that. That is 3% of 0.04%, i.e. 0.0012%. On the face of it the whole thing is laughable but at the same time very clever. It's a very clever tax scam where they've convinced masses of people to beg their governments to tax them more!

Wind has a low energy density and is erratically intermittent. Wind power is centuries out of date. Wind farms only exist due to massive taxpayer funded subsidies. They make no economic sense. They are a colossal waste of taxpayers money and resources (including coal, oil and copper).
Solar panels are only economical as a supplement in sunny areas between the 35th parallels. Even in favourable areas there is a major mismatch between peak supply and peak demand. They make no economic sense in cloudy upper latitude areas such as the UK.
Net Zero is prohibitively costly, impractical and totally unnecessary. It is economically destructive delusional insanity. The result of ridiculous popular delusions triumphing over critical thinking and common sense due to weak and corrupt politicians.

The huge cost of improving the distribution system doesn;t help - but the dream of free electricity is just that - a dream. Backup / baseload is the main problem. We constantly have to have more traditional means of generating power at the ready, or going at half speed in the case of gas, to it can go full belt quick enough to take up the slack when the wind drops or is too strong. It;s very interesting watching vids of engineers trying to get a hydro plant to go online - sounds easy - but it's tricky.
