This. People are too damn influenced by movies, religion and fiction in which we're fed the lie that you should take the high road and turn the other cheek.
While that might seem noble and honorable all it does it give the cheater full control of the narrative. It will let them spin the narrative to their favor and before you know it most of your common friends and sometimes even your family will think you are the bad guy. At that point it's already too late to tell them what really happened, because:
1) Human psychology works in such a way that most people will believe the first thing they "learn" and few people are because of pride and ego willing to change their minds once they have picked a side, committed to a side, in a conflict.
2) Keeping quiet doesn't make you appear honorable and noble, it makes you look guilty, like you're ashamed of what you did.
3) If you only start telling your side of the story after everyone has already turned on you it will look like you're just trying to lie your way out of trouble.

I tend to notice (suspending disbelief for stories sake) that whenever a wife/husband is REALLY supportive of their spouse financially or professionally or something they get cheated on. Goes to show, give someone an inch they take a mile.

I'm a child of a cheating mother who had both physical and online relations with men. The first cheating happened almost ten years ago. My father is still with her. All that did was tell my mother that her actions were acceptable and she's been cheating since. Dealing with something like that affects children. We know and as my brother and I were teenagers we find out what's going on and it hurts just as much. I went as far as questioning whether I was my own father's child.
