    There are some people in this world who aren’t satisfied unless they bring their own misery to others. You tried to do the right and responsible thing, and you did. It’s unfortunate because you do so much good for all of us who are entertained and inspired. When the world goes crazy, you bring sanity and normalcy. Thank you, thank you, for all you do.

      Yes, it’s called extreme narcissism. The only way they can feel good about themselves is to put others down. They thrive on the pain of others. Disgusting non humans. Best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Giving them any type of attention whether negative or positive only gives them fuel for their disordered thinking.

      Keep helping wildlife, just don’t share it when you do. I’m sure people are saying natural selection, but that falls under predation, flooding or wildfires, not accidentally exposing a nest of eggs. You did right by giving them a chance to hatch and grow to the proper release age. Unfortunately rules can do more harm when proper consideration is not given to each situation. 😒

      The better thing to do would have been to inform Laura about the law in a message for the future (so they could maybe find out if there was any state certified wildlife rehab program to take eggs or animals to if a similar incident happened again) and not do anything else until the quails were big enough and safely released. I understand being very skeptical of the friend mentioned who has an incubator and wanting it to be looked into, what if this is a person who shouldn’t be DIY rehabbing wildlife, but if they were actually concerned about the quail they definitely should have waited, this person was going to release them and not keep them as pets or sell them or something, and Laura was clear that she would give updates and put that online, so it would have been easy to see that they were released.

I've been amending my garden soil for years and there's a big difference in growth of my garden veggies.

    • @nspector
      @nspector 3 года назад +1

      Yes, I'd like to add that neither my compost, nor my neighbor's smells. Mine is in tumblers, so it's covered, but my next door neighbor's (small yards) is open. Now, yes, if you stick you nose deep into the pile, there will sometimes be a bit of a "compost odor." But even with their larger open bins, I have never smelled it wafting into the air. We both only put vegetable material in, nothing with meat or dairy. For sure if we put in meat or dairy, it would be a problem. I know you *can* compost with animal products, but that brings a whole set of problems, of course, and is usually not recommended for home composting. Bottom line: I don't see your compost area being a problem with odor. It's a really nice feeling to use your own garden waste this way, and feed your garden with compost you've made yourself. One thing that Aaron's likely looked into -- You will want a heavy duty shredder for the scale you'd be doing it. Will speed everything up tremendously.

      While I feel as strongly as you do about what happened, please refrain from using the name "Karen" to refer to a person who would do such an awful act. It hurts my heart when someone uses the name my beautiful mother gave me in such a way.😥 I know it's slang, and it may seem petty of me, but a person's name is important. I would challenge anyone reading this to drop this from their lexicon. Parents agonize over naming a child, and teachers know it is important to get a child's name right. I realize Laura's situation should not be about me, and this might not be the place to speak up about this, but I hope we can all be a little less negative. I love Laura and Aaron and their beautiful family and just hate the thought of someone hurting them for any reason.

    For keeping your different sprayer tanks separate, I would suggest attaching a different color label to each one, with a different picture/drawing (grass, weed, bug or whatever) plus the name of what goes in it, on the label. I've seen that type of method in some medical supply warehouses and it does seem to help by having multiple visual clues to distinguish different items.

    Composting done correctly does not smell. Remember you are only adding dried/dead/freshly cut plant material or vegetable peelings, coffee, etc. (I know you know that ☺️) It requires work as does all garden chores !! But it adds back to your hard pan and will make it so much healthier! I know you guys work really hard and have done so much, adding the composting will be the icing on the cake. But starting a composting pile early on is like planting trees early - you gain the benefits immediately. You guys have such an influence to so many, you will be helping them learn in such an informative way and help reduce landfill.

    Charles Dowding has some good videos on composting. He is in a different climate, so you would need to make some adjustments in the way you compost (which is what I've had to do). He would still be a good place to start because he composts on a large scale more like you would need. I've had to make some adjustments to the way he does it, but you just figure it out. He has way more rain than I do. Every once in a while I have to put water in my compost, and he doesn't. Sure you guys could figure it out--no problem. If you do it right, it doesn't smell. It would take up a lot of room.
