    Glad you did such a thorough job of explaining the caliper pin retainer correct installation positioning. If they go in reversed your brakes will not function correctly. Great video.

      Thank you Randy! I appreciate you watching and thanks for the nice comment. Yes, I've taught both my boys and both my girls to work on their own stuff. It's one of the things my Dad taught me and you are correct, it will save a lot of money over the years. Thanks again sir!

    Very clear and well done video. I'm a retired old mechanic and have never seen these split pins before. Question: No brake grease on the back of the pads, split pins or caliper riding slots? I think I'd be inclined to use some copper grease or grease specifically made for brake components. I realize the pads come with anti-squeal plates, but still.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  5 лет назад +1

      I agree, brake grease would not be a bad idea....certainly couldn't hurt anything. I've never had trouble with these not being greased, but....you are correct, it wouldn't hurt a thing. Thank you for watching!

      Thanks for watching! You can put some brake lube on the caliper guides and pins. If you live where there's a lot of snow, or near saltwater, you definitely want to lube these points.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching! I'd check the rears....they are drum brakes and it sounds like maybe a spring or a keeper broke, was grinding inside the drum and then probably ground itself down or came out.

    not sure if it's necessary but I have ALWAYS removed the brake fluid reservoir cap prior to compressing the caliper pistons as it will push the fluid back into the reservoir

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching, John! It doesn't hurt anything to remove the cap first. There is a bladder inside the caps that take up the voided space when the fluid is low, so in that case, you can compress the caliper without removing the cap. The bladder will allow for the returning fluid. If the reservoir is full, its a good idea to remove the cap and maybe even dip out some fluid to prevent overflowing.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching, Nathan! On the backs of the pad where the caliper piston contacts it. And some folks put it on the caliper slides, where the caliper slides on the caliper holder. I don't like to put it there because it tends to dry up and then cause the caliper to not slide easily. I prefer just making sure the caliper slides are clean.

    • @dwcoffey
