You missed a major detail, the motor stator and rotor are 3mm wider. This gives it more power since the magnets and copper windings are larger than the OG S22
Would also really reinforce the need to waterproof it. Similar design and gaps to my S18 Molicel and just one season of riding without worrying about rain and the insides of the motor were all rusted up. I was able to sand it all down and upgrade to SKF bearings but wish I had done so from day one.
Reminds me of the 80's and 90's of the automotive industry: crude, searching for its path, haphazard. We are in that time frame re: wheels. Thanks for the vid.
Looking at the coil windings enamel coating, it looks not to be a very tight wind (7:32). A lot of bunched together wire going on there. The bunched together wire tends to be looser than the wire that originates at the inner coil form and can mechanically shake as the wheel spins depending on temperatures. The magnetic conduction of each coil can also make windings move unless they're first tightly wound and then sealed with a good sealant. This means machine wound coils only. They need to be perfect in their electrical and mechanical specifications. Burned mosfets and road rashed riders is no way to discover a factory defect with enameled wire that is allowed to rub against another because it's loosely wound. A tighter wind gives the coil a higher q-factor plus the better coil makes less heat and makes for a higher efficiency.
@7:40 they didn't change the controller. The new motor has wider magnets (new stator is 33mm vs 29.5mm) - see the ecodrift teardown for pictures. I have the new motor in my S22; it has far more low speed torque than the old motor and I'm using the original S22 controller (only the motor was upgraded). The new motor is also heavier, has a lower freespin speed, and it doesn't have overheating issues like the original motor.
Well, how nice of them! Kingsong finally decided to release a wheel that included all of the 3rd party fixes that had been done to the original. I've heard it's the jump wheel to end all jump wheels, but time will tell.
There maybe some hope of receiving our batch. Its been nearly a year from when we ordered from kingsong!! A bunch of tossers, 50 grand down and false promises.. Great wheel products but bloody shite company!! Let's see if we get our wheels soon ?????????
I had a chance to try the S22 Pro ... unless you know your OG S22 really well you won't be able to notice much difference in performance. It feels very similar to me with the S22P slightly more power. I agree it should be just a S22 '23 rather than a "Pro"...
Man I thought Lucas would have front and center on this he loves the eagle. Thanks for the teardown as always gents, not much here. I agree with it getting a plus rather then a pro identity, but honestly this should have been initial release imo.
Hahaha I was watching closely with a tear in my eye as they disassembled my beloved Shoshanna (That's my S22 Pro's name) - Agree with you on the naming, kind of? Also agree they should have put it out first batch like this, but hey! Here we are!
@lukastanasiuk5722 I put some thought into this, I knew something was missing. So I decided to name my s22 as well. I wanted a strong female name, one that often shows ill temperment and authority. I went with Karen. 😆 🤣
I was hoping to hear more about the sealant used on the motor phase wires as they enter the motor. This same sealant holds the hall and temp sensors. EcoDrift found it to be hard, crumbly, and not well suited to keeping moisture out of the motor. During your teardown, did you observe the sealant? Do you think it will hold up over time?
I plan on buying my first wheel from you guys since im in canada and was wondering if this s22 pro would be a good first wheel? (The gold and black edition really tickles my fancy). Was originally going for the v12 ht but seeing theres still cut offs, its the last thing i want to happen to the noob i am. V12 ht was in my budget. Now looking at the either s22 pro or the shermax. 22 pro is 10lbs less which is good since i plan on going to work (once i learn well enought) with it and must lift it into my truck a couple times a day. The shermax seems nice, the reputation of them is what put it on my list. Both s22 pro and shermax are beyond budget however i dont want a wheel I'll have to upgrade within a month. (Did that with eboards and spent way too much in 1 summer for nothing)
We have had a ton of people get the S22 Pro as their first wheel. It would be a great first wheel that you can grow into. However, the gold won’t last long if this is the wheel that you’ll be learning on. It’ll get beat up for sure.
The bearings on these new motors are making squeaking noises. Known issue, Jason at Ewheels had me put PTFE lube in the seals. Noise came back within 100 miles
@@irhuz8683 I would enjoy it and just ride it. It’s squeaking because it’s so tightly sealed. I damaged my seal trying to spray dry lube in there. It’s a waste of time. It will brake in. It won’t go away completely though
@@irhuz8683 the original S22 motor just had a dust seal on that is in the bearing. The pro has another seal over top of that. It’s very tight around the axle and it is dry.
