Zarya has some of the best build diversity of any hero because each talent is somewhat of an answer to the situation you are in. All of it is about protecting your allies to empower your hurt.
Some things pally could have done a bit better is of course predicting damage, although not only should you do it in order to hit shields at the right time, it is also ESSENTIAL to position her correctly. In every case where pally died in this game, he simply needed to know that he couldn’t remain there forever while he has no bubble ready. It feels bad to reposition when you have a permanent auto attack, but it is necessary. Instead what you do is small adjustments throughout the fight that quickly add up. Knowing when your bubble is off cooldown is something the enemy isn’t as likely to do so you can follow the ebb and flow of it much easier than they can. Use your allies as a psuedo front line as you rotate your bubble cooldowns to keep maximum longevity. This ends up being a lot like zarya in overwatch evidently.
One example is during the final fight, he could have repositioned a bit farther back as the fight went on in order to allow artanis to take more blows for him and to force the enemy assassins into harder positions without simply being caught out. Hope all of this was helpful.

Zarya is a great hero, Standard build is 3331424. Gives you melee damage, ally speed, 2nd bigger shield, double ally shield, and rest on shields. With all these shields, your damage can be very high. If you need to play as more of a tank Blue at 4 and 13, from here her talents are self explanatory for whether you need them. Grav/Expulsion depends on their mobility and threat
Standard is actually to take together we are strong at 1, for better energy generation. That's a *narrow* "standard", though, and Zarya has three or four valid builds with lots of variety.
@@MrCharles7994 Yeah. There are a couple of "common" builds but she's pretty strong in talent diversity based on the situation.

I feel you on shielding vs healing. Predicting damage can be really annoying.
I play support in league and my best characters are shielders BUT mostly relying on their other utility.
I'm 72-13-1 now following your builds. This is a hero that I rarely play but every time I do I end up thinking to myself "I should play this hero more" and this time was no exception. I really like Tyrael's area denial talent and heroes that are just about standing their so this was perfect for me too. I had a couple really good kills where an enemy was fleeing with very little health and I as able to lob a grenade blindly in their direction and get a kill. She feels like a mix of Artanis and Tyrael who are two heroes I enjoy playing so this made for a fun match. Also had a really good shot calling Sonya and Johanna on my team. Really happy with how this game went and I'm gonna try to play this hero more because she's a lot of fun
Zarya has always been a hero that I have admired people being able to play. The gameplay of shielding yourself and your allies has always been something I've liked! I am constantly impressed with Pally's ability to learn these characters so well! Keep up the good work and I'm glad to hear that you're finding enjoyment in HotS again! :)
I do have to wonder about the interaction between Gul'dan using life tap and Zayra's percentage gain.

Zarya was the reason I kept playing overwatch pvp, once she got into hots I only booted overwatch to have some fun with friends and Halloween. I sometimes feel like her grenades should deal a little more damage, maybe a q reduces the total amount of energy but deals bonus damage depending on that? that would be a neat atalent.
They do a ton of damage at high energy but are pretty hard to aim without grenade build, so aren't reliable without cc.
Trust me, when you're on the receiving end of those grenades, they don't feel weak.
I feel like it's a rule of QM...play 3 games and you will ALWAYS see someone go in 1 on 4 or 2 on 5. It's like clockwork. And danger/retreat pings mean nothing to them. That or trying to get boss when the opposing team's entire team is up and knows we're doing boss. Love it, just love it. I've been trying to adopt Pally's philosophy of joining your team even if they're doing something wrong, but it's tough sometimes.
By the way if you read the tooltip, grenades do 50% less damage to structures so aren't worth using on buildings. Also you should try trait at level 1, feels like a good jack of all trades talent when neither grenades nor feel the heat is optimal, I take it like 75% of the time and it's fun to stack, also helps you work on thinking about ways to keep your energy high.
As a support character...I MUST LEAD THE CHARGE AND MY TEAM MUST FOLLOW!
That is the same frustration I have with Zarya. Even worse when you have a dive focused enemy team
I like taking shield talents. Teammates tend to ask if I'm new at her because I'm not high on damage but I love to shield my allies.

Zarya would be so much more intuitive if she had a similar passive to d.va's attack while moving.

The one thing I always disliked about shields is that the damage is absorbed/negated, which in WOW made for issues in the healing meta, and I can see that being an issue in games like hots but to a lesser degree. Always thought a healer that used healing more as a mechanic for their shields would have been more interesting as a concept, and would have been a fun middle ground in the shield vs healing scheme.
Something like your shields do not negate damage, but instead delay applying the damage for the duration up to a cap, so if you have a 3 second shield up an you are hit for 800 damage that damage is delayed to be applied at the end of the 3 second duration of the shield. Than imagine if you could use your heals to reduce the amount of damage being delayed by the shield, such as if the same shield with 800 damage were being delayed, and you healed 300 of that damage on the shield only 500 damage would be applied at the end of the duration. Though this kind of concept I think would be better in WOW, but might work in Hots.

Anyone else remember when Zarya was released and Pally absolutely HATED her because she was underpowered? Always feels bad when they release a new hero and they just suck.

I like Zarya, but I myself find it very hard to be impactful with her. I guess I'm just not using her shields correctly.
Zarya currently has a number problem where her baseline abilities are just slightly too weak, hence the sub 50% winrate.
One of the keys with Zarya is that she works extremely well with heroes who suffer from burst but can deal with sustain damage. If your team does not have heroes like that, then Zarya is always going to be a bit weaker. Further, she's *not* a tank, and *not* a DPS, she's best suited for the role of the 5th man-you take Zarya instead of a Bruiser sometimes, or instead of a second DPS. She's relatively team dependent, and is not particularly good at pushing lanes *or* camps (although she can do the latter).
This, combined with her cooldown problem-she can only shield for a short while, on a massive cooldown-means that she struggles a lot in the meta. Further, her talents have an issue where a lot of them add vital functionality to her shields, but conflict with situationally useful talents that do stuff like reduce the cooldown of her shields or increase her damage. That's the real problem-a lot of talents add stuff to the shield, but baseline the shield just isn't quite enough for its huge cooldown. So you either end up with a powerful ability on a huge cooldown, good damage, *or* a mediocre ability on a long cooldown.
Plus you're countered hard by any team that can simply out-last the shield duration, so any team with rapid re-engagements and sustain damage.

Haven't watched the video yet, just putting my experience with Zarya here first.
Playing Zarya in qm feels like opting to play a minion with a little more health. If the enemy team has more than half a braincell then you have zero damage output and if they don't, you can deal a moderate but non-threatening amount of damage, for 1-2 seconds per teamfight before you go back to just being a punching bag. Every time I've played Zarya, I've spent the entire match wishing I'd queued as anyone else, because having a zarya on your team just makes the entire match a 4v5. She's cool in design, but almost worthless in execution.
This is extremely untrue lol. If you’re focusing on her damage, maybe, but her real power is in her incredible utility.
Zarya is a great hero both in design and in practice.
