Going through this issue right now. Master bath Shower running cold even when there’s enough hot water for all three showers to run at same time. Thank you for the video and tips!👍🏾
Great video! I'm having trouble with my 3 1/2 unit so this will really help me start the trouble shooting. Only comment I have is why his intake /exhaust is 6" from the ground? Mind is 6' above the ground
My water heater is in the basement. The installer located the air inlet/outlet pipe as close to the unit as he could. I don't think it being located higher off the ground would add any value. The most important thing is to put the mesh lining over the pipe to keep out debris that could affect the operation of the unit.. I recently flushed my unit with vinegar and everything has been working well.
Hello, I appreciate the information. I just moved into a house with one of these water heaters. Is it normal for it to cycle on and off when the water isn’t even being used. Ours is under the master bedroom floor and you can hear it cycling all the time. Thank you for reply I can’t find anything about this anywhere.
check to see if your water meter is moving when the unit is on. I can only guess that you have a water leak somewhere. If there is no flow and the unit turns on, does the flame kick in or is it just the fan turning on?
@@johngulbronson969 thanks for responding. I’ll have to do more checking. I do know there is no water leak and it does heat up. It only runs for a few minutes and shuts off. I just thought that it was doing that to keep some water hot in a tank if there is some kind of water reservoir that it has to keep hot. So yours never comes on until a faucet is turned on. Thanks for the tips on maintenance I’ve never had one. God Bless
@@mikebrown618 I guess that it is possible that you have a recirculation valve in your bathroom that keeps water circulation through your hot water pipes so you don't have to wait for the hot water to get to your shower. it takes almost two minutes for hot water to get to the second floor from my basement.
After a year or so I did get some minor leakage. It concerned me at the time but not enough to do anything about it. Over time it stopped leaking and I have had no other leaks for several years
Had air flow blockage code come up & found mud dobber nest built in the air flow piping & down in the unit vane, I've tried cleaning out but I think too much has fallen down in the unit where the fins are to keep it running at normal capacity, as it's very loud now after returning unri to normal state.
Cleaned fan, blew put with air hose, due to mod dobbers clogging the air flow up & the fan became out of balance, fixed the issue. Just need to put a mesh cover of the outside vent to eliminate the muddobber nest.
You can flush as often as you like. I can do it every two years or so based on the quality of my water. I find that the biggest issue is particulate matter in the fan and manifold.
As a plumber i can absolutely say tankless water heaters are the biggest damn scam in the history of plumbing. Stick with the old school tank style folks. Way cheaper and last just as long
That works for some people. My old hot water heater could not keep up with demand with 4 kids and 2 adults. Also, I could not even use the Spa tub as 40 gallons of hot water would not do the trick, The continuous hot water works best for us.
Can you give details on the scam? We have 5 in the household & hot water won't go as far as 3 people. Dishwasher daily, 5 showers, clean baby bottles, etc. I believe if you keep the maintenance up on them, as flushing the system, cleaning the filter/fan, it works for us. Not to say it goes bad tomorrow, 11 years on our Rinnai RL75.

Thanks for all the info!
Any time!
Did you ever have it begin slightly dripping inside? Ours is 4 years old, and has not been flushed in 3 years.

@@jopo9359 Hopefully these two actions will fix your issues. If your fan is cleaned you should not hear the vibration while in use.
Where did you order your your parts from?
Check Supplyparts.com.
You should be flushing your tankless every 6 months to a year.
