If Steffi wasn't by distracted by her father's extramarital affair scandal, tax evasion & German media negative publicity towards her family then Steffi's slam tally would have been different.
Steffi Graf is the only one to date to have won the Golden Slam... all 4 Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal. In just 10 years she has won 21 Grand Slam titles... she was not very present for a while because of her father and stopped playing at the age of 30 and two months...She is the G.O.A.T. of women's tennis...
She is the only tennis player of either gender to successfully defended all 4 majors. She also the only player to win at least 6 slams in all 3 surface. Simply mind blowing.
@@JTM1809 yeah but Wikipedia still count those titles as USA citizen. Remember when Novotna won 1998 Wimbledon, media said she was the first Czech female tennis player to win Wimbledon.
@ Media say a lot of things, that aren’t true. This was one of them. Navrátilová is a Czech native, who won her first two slams as a Czechoslovak citizen. Novotná was the second Czech female player to win Wimbledon. I thought, that maybe third, because Mandlíková won a handful of slam titles even before Novotná, but I checked and Mandlíková won everything except for Wimbledon.
Margaret Court, 24 Grand Slam titles, most by any woman ever in the history of tennis. And a lady on and off the court. And I shan't mention the 40 other GS titles. Oh, I just did.
Remember, Steffi Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles by the age of 30. Serena was at 13 at the same age. Don’t kid yourselves, Graf retired at 30. Enough said on the GOAT…it’s Graf
I love Steffi too. But to be fair , Monica Seles had already won 8 grand slam titles before the age of 20. Her progress was severely interfered with in a way that no other player has had to deal with, and all of it totally out of her control. So not only did it negatively affect her career, it also made life much easier for her opponents to capitalise in her absence.
If you add all three disciplines then Mcenroe would have 17 slams & would be one of the GOAT contender. But still nobody gives Mcenroe's double titles any value in GOAT debate. In fact it's far difficult to dominant both in singles & doubles in men's tennis than in women's as the men's games were more physical. So if we neglect his doubles resume then we neglect any female tennis players double resume as well. Greatest should be measured by singles only.
A proud Czechoslovak here: 🇨🇿 Martina Navrátilová 🇺🇸 🇨🇿 Hana Mandlíková 🇨🇿 Martina Hingis 🇨🇭 🇨🇿 Jana Novotná (R. I. P.) 🇨🇿 Petra Kvitová 🇨🇿 Barbora Krejčíková 🇨🇿 Markéta Vondroušová
And here is comparison to 16 years long span starting from 1992 and ending in 2008: Graf - 12; S.Williams - 8; V.Williams and Henin - 7; Seles and Hingis - 5; Sanchez, Sharapova, Davenport and Capriati - 3; Pierce and Mauresmo - 2; Martinez, Majoli, Novotna, Myskina, Kuznetsova and Ivanovic - 1 slam. Only 6 people with one slam title won from 1992 till 2008! Lmao This should tell you everything you need to know about state of women's tennis in the last decade and a half...
@@Thereallevan No that means, that players are mentally weak and can't play consistently on week-to-week basis ,also many of them playing like blatant clones of one another...there are less distinct styles anymore, anyone tries to be another Sharapova or another Wozniacki...and that translates into poor results...and lack of ATG level talent...
@@Thereallevan so do you think men's tennis during big 3 era was weak as those big 3 won 66 slams between them ??🤔🤔 When you have many different champion that means nobody is good enough to dominant the sports.
Post Henin's first retirement the game becomes weak. Except Serena nobody has the consistency & mentality to last long & Serena benefited from that hugely. Remember even during Serena's prime players like Wozniacki, Jankovic, Safina, Ivanovic etc were #1. Hard to imagine those players achieve #1 during Graf's or in Martina's era. That's why I never rate Serena as the GOAT.
Last 16 years since Venus' win at the Wimbledon in 2008: Serena Williams - 15; Swiatek - 5; Osaka - 4, Kerber, Clijsters, Sabalenka and Barty - 3; Sharapova, Muguruza, Kvitova, Azarenka, Li Na, Krejcikova and Halep - 2. And now here is the list of one slam winners in the last 16 years - Kuznetsova (although her overall total spanning longer period is 2 slams), Schiavone, Stosur, Bartoli, Pennetta, Ostapenko, Stephens, Wozniacki, Andreescu, Kenin, Raducanu, Rybakina, Vondrousova and finally Gauff. The amount of people winning only one grand slam is almost equal to amount of all the slams, that Serena has won during that 16 years long span! This is just pathetic...
@@TheMusicBHMaybe, but that is how it goes. If someone has had enough then that is all there is to it. Look at Ash Barty. She walked at the peak of her powers at the age of 25. There is a difference with Steffi Graf winning heaps of titles in the absence of Monica Seles who had already won 8 grand slams before the age of 20. But Monica got taken out of the game for reasons other than her own.
I stopped watching this and tennis at august 99, when "fraulein forehand" officially retired. And btw Steffi is the Michael Jordan of womens tennis. THE GOAT. And that Serena, that Kong look alike is Leflop.
It is a shame her rivalry with Monica Seles was not able to be fully played out. I do love Steffi, but as tennis fans we were all deprived of what should have been.
It's been quite a minute since someone, not named Serena Williams was able to win 7 slams or more in the last decade and a half and become another female ATG...time for someone to step the heck up! Swiatek is closest with 5 slams, let's just hope nothing derails her suddenly like it happened with Osaka and she'll keep adding up! Women's tennis desperately needs another ATG level legend. No one in the last 15 years other than Serena was able to write herself in as consistent "serial" slam winner, time to finally break this vicious cycle.
Ash Barty would have added to her tally, were it not for burnout of sort and wanting to be with her family. Swiatek just doesn't have the skill to win on all surfaces (especially grass), and strength wise she is inferior to Aryna and Rybakina and even Qinwen.
@ Woulda coulda shoulda...look, Swiatek is an active player and Barty isn't anymore, i am not here to dwell on lost possibilities and entertain alternative "what if" scenario, i'm here to talk about current state of affairs and she is closest to break that threshold anyway...she doesn't need to dominate any of the three mentioned players to get there! Lmao And Sabalenka or Rybakina is not going to be always stand between her and the title, so she'll definitely have at least handful of chances to add outside of RG...it'll eventually happen...
Pay attention to the gap between Graf and S.Williams for 1992-2008 period and then compare it to the gap between S.Williams and Swiatek for 2008-2024 period. In the first case it's 12 vs. 8, in the latter it's - 15 vs. 5. Lmao...
WTA becomes weak post 2010. Yeah the depth was there but there was hardly any ATG emerged at that time. Nothing to take away from Serena but she benefited from that. She won 13 slams during that weak era.
Steffi Graf reached a record 13 consecutive grand slam final's.
From the 1987 French Open to the 1990 French Open...Unglaublich!!!!
Steffie graff won golden slam 1988 four grand slams and Olympic gold medal
