    Looks very beautiful. I have same size and planning to do the same just few questions. Did you use plywood sheet ? how did you feel those drilled hole after passing fiber ? do you see those hole when we looked day time at ceiling or when it is not on ?

    • @kevinolsen73
      @kevinolsen73 4 года назад +3

      I used what they call "project panels", its more like sheathing than plywood and its only 1/4" thick. It helped to save weight and it only needed to be a platform for the fibers to go through. The only concern with this wood is that it is so thin that it will bend or sag at the edges a little if not supported from the back. I had to add a piece of thin backing wood to the edge near the screen to correct some sagging and make the edge straight. This video was taken before I fixed it so you can see it if you look closely. :P
      I used very small drill bits, barely larger than the fibers. I broke several in the process. I then "glued" the fibers in place with clear silicone so that they wouldn't pull out.
      If you look really closely you can barely see some of the holes with the lights off. But it is not noticeable or unsightly. :)

    • @kevinolsen73

      I put some fast drying silicone caulk on them to make sure they wouldnt pull out easily. :)

    Is that a white extension cord dangling down in front? After all that work you couldn't conceal that cable or at least run it down the back where you're not looking?

    • @kevinolsen73
      @kevinolsen73 4 года назад +1

      That is a flat HDMI cable that has since been run down behind the screen and painted to match the wall where it was visible. At the time the wifey took this video I was still building the entertainment center, so I just had the wire hanging until I had somewhere to run it :)

    Hello, I have a question: after installing the fiber optic and putting the panel on the ceiling, are the wires cut to the bottom of the panel?

    • @Mawnee
      @Mawnee 3 года назад +1

      Yep. Just cut the fibers off flush or nearly flush. Varying the length a little helps them all look a little different. :)

    • @kevinolsen73
      @kevinolsen73 4 года назад +3

      Yumii's Hubby here. It is 12'x8', I used 3 4'x8' sheets combined. It is a single light engine with 430 fibers. If I had to do it again I would use two or more separate smaller light engines so that I could mix colors and effects. :)

    • @Mawnee
      @Mawnee 3 года назад

      It is hanging from chains. I put long eye bolts into the studs in the ceiling. That's why I was able to build it all on the ground. Once it was done I just had to lift it up and hook the chains :)

  • @RobySkariah

    Will the fibre optics and the light lasts for ever ? Or will it die after few years? After all the drilling and work if it dies in couple if years....
    :(

    • @YumiiMawneeProjects
      @YumiiMawneeProjects  3 года назад +1

      The light engine itself uses LEDs, so it should last a long time. And even if it fails, we could replace just the light without redoing all the fibers. :)
