man, this game blew me away a decade ago. Brilliant narrative, saga that spans two generations, complicated skill system, holy blood mechanic, large scale maps. You can write a doctorate on how unique FE Genealogy of the Holy War is compared to other games in the series.
It's definitely unique but it also isn't a lot of fun to actually play. The fandom keeps talking about a rumored remake. That strikes me as an extremely difficult task to take on. First of all, FE4 is massive in scale. Second, you can either preserve FE4's weird/annoying gameplay mechanics and excessively large, boring maps, or you can rework them. Either way you'll piss a chunk of the fandom off; Echoes got a ton of criticism for not reworking Gaiden's boring/annoying maps, but it would've got a ton of criticism if it _did_ change them too.
@@THRACIA776ISTHEGREATEST I'm not a fan of the mega gigantic maps that makes everybody without a horse completely useless. Pursuit being a skill and similar goofy ahh design decisions that render a good chunk of the cast bad unless you invest a ton in them and the way "trading" works is needlessly annoying too. This is the next installment in the chronology of Fire Emblems remakes after Shadows of Valencia, right? Meaning as long as they're still going in order, this should be the next 3DS/Next Gen Handheld make of Fire Emblem? I hope it is, this and Thracia 776 look so good. I played a partially translated ROM a long time ago, and it was awesome. I would love to play it again, this time to the end, and if they updated the graphics and music, etc. like they have with all the other Fire Emblem remakes, that'd be even better. TBH, I think had this been released on the Super Nintendo (as compared to the Super Famicom) it would have likely been considered on par with that of Final Fantasy 4 & 6 as the best RPG's of that generation.
Yes, but this would be the hardest one to Remake, mainly due to the heavy lore, and how likely it would be for some of that lore to be censored, especially the localization.
I don't understand how desperate you people are for remakes. Great we have FE4 with half the story censored, sterile 3d graphics (probably incredibly ugly if they're on the same engine as engage!), the beautiful synths and vsts replaced with some flat samey orchestral soundtrack, and the whole gameplay destroyed with a casual mode and turnwheel just to make sure whatever challenge you can find in fe4 is completely removed. Also the fact that every remake uses development time that could of been used for a new game or a new sequel! Why are you all so dedicated to playing the same games but worse!
@@THRACIA776ISTHEGREATEST I'm with you on this, actually. I can't think of many remakes that are actually better than the original (the 2004 version of Sid Meier's Pirates! maybe? Lol.)
Well, it's not just that, the remakes' objective in general is to let the game be known to a brand new public as well as those that played the original game, for those that want to see the game with improved graphics and/or music, and it's also for those that want to own the game legitimately instead of having to download a ROM file and a patch it bc it's japan only, it's also an acknowledgement from Nintendo and IS showing that they care for the game and those who played it, heck, even the unofficial translator teams agree that, if the game ever releases officially in English we, as fans of the game, should pay for it in order to support the game and the series
Wouldn't Julia become heir? She was Alvis' daughter and with Julius dead, the next in succession (Saias was a bastard which would likely disqualify him), not to mention she possessed major Naga blood. One could speculate that males are prioritized over females like real-life medieval culture, but rarely did they allow half-siblings, even if male, unless the king's wife died and he got remarried or such. Not to mention in FE4, they don't seem to have sex priority, as Ishtar was above Ishtor being firstborn and having major Tordo blood. I suppose she could pass it on to Seliph, as the Emperor didn't require Naga blood (Alvis had none, but legally go the position) but I don't recall a scene like that ever occurring.
It was based on the succession of Prince Kurth's bloodline. Deirdre was his only child, so the eldest child of Deirdre would have the right to the throne (which is Seliph). Even with all that aside, Seliph claimed Belhalla through conquest, so that's another reason why he has a right to the throne.

Just finished the game, but my rom had a translation error at the end, so couldnt enjoy the ending. Glad to at least be able to see it here, but they are not my pairings :(
FIRST!!! Anyway, since my port isn't fully translated (need to download an update), I have a question for you. If you do the glitch where you pair Julia/Seliph, does the game ending acknowledge it or nah? Also, I see what you mean about the characters deciding to rule instead of sticking with their partners. In my ending, Shanan went back to Isaach w/o his wife Patty, who I'm guessing took over Jungby (again my port isn't clear). I paired Tinny with Ced, but she took over Freege while he went back to Silesia. Craziness lol. My Faval(paired with Lana) took over Verdane.
I can't say, I never tried Seliph/Julia. I'm surprised Lester didn't take over Jungby if Faval went on to rule Verdane, I thought he would be next in line?
GodzillaCO It makes sense doesn't it? If they're going medieval rules usually the male assumes leadership. The only thing I draw from it, is that since Briggid is the older sibling, her kids get priority.
May I ask which pairings you did for Aideen, Bridget, Lachesis, and Ayra? I noticed their kids didn't inherit lands from their dads, so I'm curious which pairs you went with.
I stated it in the description. Aideen married Midir, Bridget married Holyn, and Lachesis married Beowulf, and Ayra married Dew(This post was made by /ss/ gang). Aideen and Midir is a very common pairing, gives Lester the Brave Bow and Pursuit, making him a very effective archer, and one of my favorite mounted archers in the series. Bridget and Holyn is another common pairing, and causes Patty to act in some regards as somewhat of a swordmaster in a rogue's body on promotion because of the +2 HP. She can also use brave swords, though I obviously don't do that much. Lachesis marrying Beowulf I like because like Midir and Aideen it's another scenario where the kid is the same class as his father who's already good in said class. Dermott inherits Pursuit, Accost, and all of Beowulf's weapons. Nanna kind of gets nerfed, but let's be honest, she's not a frontline soldier. I guess Ayra and Dew isn't much to write home about as it really just gives the kids Sol, which does come in handy but I see more value in Lex handing off Paragon/Elite, even if Ulster doesn't inherit any weapons, but I thought Ulster with the Wind Sword was cool. I might get around to a second playthrough one of these days with more experimentation in the pairings. I felt bad about Verdane's royal family dying off, though all the guides I read online don't really point to Jamke being a good father even though he's an amazing unit in the first gen.
@@GodzillaCO Awesome, thanks! In the run I finished, I ended up pairing Aideen with Jamke, partially because I wanted Verdane to live on, and also because I found Jamke far more useful as a unit than Midir. Lester ended up having solid stats in that run, and I've heard he can do well with Bridget or even Ayra, too. Ayra went with Lex, and the Wonder Twins turned out absolutely broken with Ayra's skill and speed with Lex's bulk. Plus, Larcei ended up marrying Johan, so their kid could grow up to inherit Helswath by the power of mild-to-moderate incest! The one weird, almost crack pairing I went with was Azel with Lachesis, because I had seen some pairing guides that said it could help Nanna with her healing and turn Dermott into a master of magic swords. While Nanna did turn out okay, and I managed to raise her to promotion by the end of the game, Dermott turned out borderline useless with crappy defense, average strength, mildly higher magic than most physical units, and his only decent stat being his speed. I'm not sure if I'd do that pairing again, but at least Dermott inherited Velthomer! Sylvia ended up with Dew in this run, since I figured the two useless sword units in gen 1 could be useless together. Lene got Sol, but they both turned out exactly as crap as you would expect when your dad is Dew and your mom is Sylvia. I also did Bridget and Holyn, and I super loved Patty as the thief with myrmidon growths! Giving her the Brave Sword to inherit from Holyn was an absolute lifesaver, as was the Paragon Ring to make it easier for her to promote! Other than that, I went with Erin and Claude, and Lewyn and Tailtiu, and they both turned out quite well. I didn't end up using Tinni much, but Arthur, Fee, and Ced were all solid to amazing units. If I do another run, which I might, my plan is to make pairings so that every pairing consists of one unit who inherits a land and one who doesn't. That leaves me to pair Aideen, Ayra, Lachesis, Sylvia, and Erin with Azel, Lex, Jamke, Lewyn, and Claude, and I'm not sure which combinations to go with. Bridget will just get Holyn again, and Tailtiu can either go with Arden or just die, because Amid can also inherit Freege, and he gets Adept.
ok 1 thing still confuses me, in the end Seliph say that Lewyn its Forseti (the wind dragon i think), in all fire emblem games the manaketes lives for many years so i dont think that the dragon died after he gave the power to the first wind Crusader, and in 1º generation we meet Lewyn mother (that gives him the holy wind book) and she its human so i assume Lewyn cant be the same dragon that gave power to his ancestor, what i think is that the dragon may be the father of Lewyn (so this makes him a dragon too but not Forseti), correct me if i'm wrong in this but for me this makes more sense Edit: ok Nevermind, i made some research and i found out that manfroy kills Lewyn but then Forseti uses Valkyria Staff to ressurect him, "but" even after this he is still the same Lewyn we know, he is not Forseti so this doesnt make sense why the hell Seliph calls him that.
He and Forsetti are kind of one. He went from an edgy teenaged bard to a calm and collected adviser to Seliph (his Forsetti half), but still, he holds some sentiment in his former life (like how he "watches over" his children, like in his convo with Lene).
Because part of himself he has given up to Forseti I kinda like to think of it as the Byleth/Sothis thing in my interpretation. Kaga said how much Lewyn was influenced by Forseti is up to the player basically.
