    Nice video, if you catch a base star like that, and your old school battlestar is beat up like that, go to flank speed, set max defensive and ram it.. i mean if you gonna lose it either way..

    • @jiyu9694
      @jiyu9694 Год назад

      Why would the Colonials sacrifice a Battlestar and its crew to ram a Base Star, when they outnumbered the Base Stars by 3 or 4 to 1 (there were only two Base Stars and at least six Battlestars)? You don't sacrifice lives and ships unless there's no alternative. The Colonials in this video had the upper hand from the beginning of it, and there was little doubt that they would win. The Cylons were out numbered and out gunned from the very first frame.

    VERY nicely done, but one incongruity - why are there no swarms of Cylon Raider fighters engaging all those Colonial Vipers? Base Stars always have tons of Raiders aboard to attack Battlestars and engage Vipers.

    • @DanielRMueller
      @DanielRMueller Год назад

      There are, but it doesn't seem like the game's camera is focusing on them much. The Vipers tend to make good work out of them, though, and if they get into one those flak screens, they are gone quickly, too.
      The game itself is set in the first cylon war, the Mercury Class Battlestar (Pegasus) and the Modern Cylon Basestar were unfortunately only added in the last expansion before support for the game ended. IMO, the Basestar really could have used some tweaks, like having it regenerate it missile supplies like some other Cylon ships in the game. That the Flak Screen neuters them heavily would be fitting as that was kinda how it was in the show - but the Cylons never seem to run out of missiles, either.

    • @jiyu9694
      @jiyu9694 Год назад

      @@DanielRMueller I've never played the game, or even seen it before that I'm aware of, but it looks like it incorporates some major non-canon elements. It does make sense that there would be more than one model of Battlestar available to the Colonials, but it doesn't make any sense that Cylon Raiders play such a small (almost nonexistent) role in this battle. I watched it again just now, and could only spot one Raider in the entire thing (from a vantage point of a camera on the outside right rear of the Raider). In both the original 1980 show and in the great 2004 reboot, huge swarms of Raiders played an equally huge role in almost every battle. They not only kept Vipers fully engaged so they could not easily attack BaseStars, they usually outnumbered the vipers and were able to directly attack and do damage to the Battlestars themselves, often targeting the Viper launch and recovery bays that had to have exposed openings to allow for Viper launches and landings.
      The second major anomaly is that in the shows neither BaseStars nor Battlestars could make the kind of frequent short jumps the Basestars repeatedly do here to avoid missile strikes. In canon, each jump requires a tremendous amount of engine energy that takes significant time to replenish before the ship can jump again. That was a major plot point as to why the Galactica and its civilian fleet couldn't simply jump away each time the Cylons appeared to threaten them.
      Each jump had to be meticulously calculated and engine energy built up over time in order to perform the jump.
      Here, the Cylons seem to do it whenever and as often as they want until their BaseStar engines are too damaged to continue. The frequent, rapid short jumps make for a more interesting battle, but it's simply not a capacity either side ever had on the shows, at least as I far as I recall.

    • @DanielRMueller
      @DanielRMueller Год назад

      @@jiyu9694 There was an episode where a damaged Cylon Raider was jumping several times within system. It was unclear why it did that exactly, but it if a damaged raider can do it, it stands to reason that a fully functional one could do it as well.
      Ingame, the ability has a cooldown and you can speed it up by spending more of the ship's processing power (a Cylon specific mechanic) at the expense of other abilities.
      Only very few cylon ships in the game can execute this short-term jumps, the modern basestar is one of them. (And not part of the game's actual game campaigns, just something for skirmish/multiplayer).
      The number of Raiders you see in the movie is not representative of the number of Raiders the Cylon Basestar actually carries, but if the camera doesn't focus on the fighters, you just won't see them, they're too small. Still, I'd say in the show the basestars might have launched even more fighters than that.

    • @michelleann1910
      @michelleann1910 Год назад

      @DanielRMueller I get it that the game allows the frequent jumping, but the shows did not as far as I can recall, so it seems to me the game introduced an artificiality that directly contradicts the shows. I don't remember the episode you mentioned (can you identify it for me?), but if you're right, that could be explained by the comparatively small mass of a Raider vs the humongous mass of a Battlestar or Base Star. The huge ships perhaps just can't do what the little fighters can.
      As for the absence of Raiders in the vid, Vipers are no bigger than Raiders (they're smaller in fact, seating only one instead of three), yet you can clearly see entire flights of Vipers throughout the vid due to their bright thrust exhaust. You should be equally able to see the twin engine exhausts of the Raiders if they were there. Maybe it's just this clip from the game, and you can see them in other portions of the battle not shown here, but IMO it's unrealistic because you should see those Raiders all over the place. It's a picayune gripe, perhaps, but it bugs me.
