The firehouse was seen in the movie Field of Dreams. You were just steps away from the outside of Terence Mann’s apartment. James Earl Jones stood in the middle of that street to stop Ray’s truck and said “Go the distance.”
My roomie and BFF of 14 years is from Dubuque! She, of course, recognizes everything. Fun fact: they filmed a scene in Take This Job and Shove It, in her house!
When you were on the riverwalk looking at the railroad bridge right behind you was the Dubugue Brewing Company building that was used for exterior shots in "Take This Job And Shove It." You ought to make the two hour trip over to Baraboo,Wi. Where the Ringling Brothers Circus was founded. Lots of history there and a Disney connection. Circus wagons used in "Tobey Tyler" and at the Disneyland Circus are at the museum there.
Politics seems so far away from the big city daily news we get from the internet now. I read the weekly newspaper (on line) from the small town I grew up in. And the news is who is getting married, local church is getting a new roof, etc.
Adam I have lived in Dubuque for 62 years now and there are a lot of stories of Gangsters that used Dubuque for there movements of booze back in the 20's. The Julien Hotel as a room Al Capone used when he was in town. Off to the left of the 4th street elevator is Kelly's Bluff. The story goes Machine Gun Kelly buried some cash up on the hill side somewhere, people looked for years for it, but never found anything. That why it is called Kell's Bluff. If you are here for a few days. Check out the giant M on the hillside in Platteville Wi. MTV used it as a promo in the early days. Go a few more miles north to Dodgeville Wi. You will find the House on the Rock. It is the kind of place you will love.
What a great little town. I enjoyed this vlog so much. So many Interesting sights. Thank you for sharing them with us.. I would love to visit there. You always do an awesome job Adam. Keep up the great job I look forward to the rest of your trip.
Wow, who would have thought Dubuque was so laden with so many treasures! Just loved this tour around town, as you tend to point out the very things that I also find interesting and amusing. Looking forward to more small town exploring in the next week, give or take a few days.
Thank you for visiting Dubuque. I spent a lot of my childhood there. Good memories. If you get a chance, consider visiting the Mississippi Museum and Aquarium. Lots of neat things there.
A friend grew up in Dubuque was on the HS Football team that won the state championship. Around 81’? That town is so hilly that the kids all grew up strong from walking & bicycling the endless hills.
Glad you have a good time with your mother visiting towns together ! It makes lot of wonderful memories like I did many years ago with mine...I wish you both to enjoy and be happy in the interesting places you visit. Hello from Paris, France ❤
I’m born and raised in Dubuque. So cool for you to stop through and enjoy the town. Dubuque lanes is really a bowling alley on the 2nd floor. There is another bowling alley on 8th and locust St., you have to take a rigged elevator to go up to it. The hotel Julian, Al Capone stayed in that hotel and there is a suite named after him too. The town clock has bands in the summer and art festivals underneath it. This town has a lot going on. I’m glad you all stoped though. Definitely come Back again! Field of dreams was also filmed here as well as Galena Ill. They filmed it in central at the fire house station you were at.
I can’t believe you were only an HOUR away from my town!! If you are looking for a beautiful scenic drive, Hwy 35 from Prairie du Chien, Wi(about an hour north of Dubuque) and north runs along the Mississippi River for many many miles. It will take you straight to La Crosse which is FULL of history and awesome sights. And across the river is Minnesota! Enjoy the Driftless Area Adam!
We spent the night in Dubuque going to get a puppy in Waukon last September. The bluffs overlooking the Mississippi are beautiful. Lots of corn and silos too.
Down the street from Galena Illinois....lots of history and neat things to see. I live in Illinois and several small towns bye have bowling alley's upstairs near us. Enjoyed the vlog
Thanks Adam... Best part of this video *by far* is the scenic railroad / elevator. After teasing it at the beginning of the video I kept watching thinking is he going to share this thing or not? Glad you finally got around to it. It might be that when a railroad is so steep it's operated with a cable, like an elevator, its name changes from a cog railway two elevator. If the mode of power is on the railroad cars it's a railroad. If it's pulled up and down with cables and the motive power is elsewhere, it's an elevator... obviously the closer you get to vertical, the closer you get to elevator.
Man I loved this. I went to school in Dubuque. Did these explorations that you did often. I own FIST and Take this Job and Shove It because they were filmed in that town and at the Brewery which is one of my favorite buildings ever. Actually one of my first ever urbex explorations was that place when it was fully abandoned. This video made my heart full
Look at you!!! Driving many hours east for this video! Love it! I-80 and I are old best friends back in my college days in the 90s driving to So. Dakota from NJ. 😊
Adam, while in the area you should try and head south to Davenport Iowa and catch a River Bandits game. That stadium is unbelievable and is a must see!
It is also where the sliced bread was invented. Also Walt Disney applied for an artist job in davenport... they did not hire him and he went on to be who we know today
My mother and I went on a small paddle wheel boat tour on the Mississippi back in the late 80s. As we were returning to Port, the Mississippi Belle, a large gambling paddle wheel ship was just behind us. It was beautiful. Hope you get to go on that. It was a blast
I lived on main street by the clock tower for a year after college, above a cafe. I walked those places you went everyday. We would go out for dinner or entertainment after work each night. The shot tower inn and lot one were good food stops, but there are too many to list. Cherry lanes is a good bowling alley and I liked going to the aquarium. I still pass through every once in a while. It is a great town with a really cool downtown area!
Adam, that tree looks like either a dogwood or pear tree. Really enjoyed your video! Thank you for taking me along with you! Beautiful scenery and views! Looking forward to your next vlog. YOU ROCK!!!!!
Dubuque is a beautiful little town. I've only been there once, but I've been all over Iowa. So many great places to visit all over the state. Iowa is also listed as one of the top states to retire.
I think Iowa is a gorgeous state. I worked on The Crazies in southwest Iowa in 2009. The state really left an indelible mark on me. Those inclines are also called “funiculars”. Thank you Adam for another amazing video - your “dailies” have encrusted in my daily.
I actually live here in Dubuque, not 2 far from where this was filmed and Dubuque has always been a beautiful small city with lots of historical attractions!! Nice 2 see Dubuque get some recognition
Hi Adam; I spent my preteen years in Dubuque. A lot of fond memories of downtown and the 4th. St. Elevator. Awsome view from the top, especially on a clear day. Thanks for visiting there and the video.
I remember watching Fist in the 80s when I was a kid, I thought it was boring then . I wouldn't mind watching it again now I'm 44. I'm in the UK and have not seen it streamed anywhere.
This is exactly how I pictured Iowa. Very quaint and old-fashioned.
This was a great town
Was in Iowa last year. Dubuque is a nice town
Not far from field of dreams!
What a Charming old town. I'm glad the family decided to go for a stroll with you & your brother in-law knows the history.. Great video!
You're in my state! So many great cities in Iowa. Galena Illinois, not too far from Dubuque is awesome too.
The firehouse was seen in the movie Field of Dreams. You were just steps away from the outside of Terence Mann’s apartment. James Earl Jones stood in the middle of that street to stop Ray’s truck and said “Go the distance.”

Nice peaceful video for a Sunday morning.

Dubuque seems like a pretty cool old town to visit. Thanks for bringing us along.👍
these are my favorite Adam the Woo videos, don't care for the Disney content but I could watch these small town mini-docs all day. ☺️☺️
"Old Style" was a beer made at the G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, WI. My dad worked there in the '80s.
3 quarts for $2 in 1982- from what I heard lol
It’s so nice when you put wildlife animals in your vblogs keep it up.

How could you forget Pittsburgh’s two magnificent inclines? You need to get your Mr.Rogers sweater on! Lol
I forget a lot of things ha
@@TheDailyWooCome back to Pittsburgh for one of your longer visits-there’s lots to see in the Steel City !
Rad town!! Old school as is gets. Neon, ghost signs, old brick buildings, etc....history at its finest.👍
Love these videos. Small town and a quaint coffee shop. Life doesn’t get better then that.
thanks for visiting small-town Iowa, Adam! enjoy your stay!!🤘🏼
There's a certain feeling that you get when exploring these old small town USA cities. So much fun.

It’s cool to see a funicular railway in Dubuque; it’s really a beautiful old town. This is gonna be a fun series of vlogs.
When I think of Iowa I think of American Pickers’ Antique Archeology store in Le Claire, IA. I see it’s a little over an hour from Dubuque.
