Just got to say I'm realy gana miss the dailywoo when you decide no more daily content. I've started my days fo so long with the vlogs and coffee thank you for the years of amazing content and always providing interesting history in places you visit. Keep up the epic work.
OUTSTANDING video, Adam! Wonderful content showing historic GALENA, ILLINOIS! Loved the 🌙 Moonlight Graham / Doc Graham moments from Field of Dreams locations! Awesome.
PS: When you come back, you will have to take the trolly tour, visit the beautiful home with the Gone With the Wind curtians and dress; visit the Grant home if you can, and stay in the Lincoln hotel suite. You could begin the video in the suite, and give us a small tour of it, like you did with the Short Circuit house (one of my all time favorites). Thank you for this wonderful video, i really enjoyed it. 🎩🤖
Lincoln was in Galena, Ill first in 1832 as a soldier during the Black Hawk War. He also addressed a large audience from the DeSoto House balcony (opened 1855) on Main Street. on the evening of July 23, 1856,
I love visiting Galena. My dad and I used to visit every couple of years. There was a doll shop that sold miniature dolls…. My dad would pick out one for me as a gift… became a tradition. This was back in the 80s early 90s. I still have them (RIP dad 2/13/2024)
The "ghost portal" was awesome n the fact that they discovered it n gouged it out n put it in glass for posterity n tourists to see if wonderful!!! Beautiful hotel, gorgeous bar and table settings in restaurant, n the balcony STILL preserved where Lincoln, Grant n Douglass spoke is a treasure, n that they keep these important pieces of history alive is a fine tribute to the people of the town!!! Plz do the tour of the mansion!!!
Love this video...Galena is so fun around Halloween too. We live about and hour to an hour and a half away and we have gone to the Halloween parade and it was just so fun!! I was so excited when I saw you were up this way. Hope the bad weather didn't dampen too much of your trip!!
My wife and i were in galena a couple years ago. We got to spend the night next door to grants office and lincolns room. 2nd floor, corner room facing main st. Thanks for bringing back some memories
Did a quick little search because I just watched Gone with the Wind and was curious about the Scarlet drape dress. I guess the Belvedere Mansion purchased the actual prop drapes through an MGM auction and those drapes are on display there. Neat!
Field of Dreams always brings the waterworks to me at the end, thanks for the wonderful video Adam, keep up the great work, glad you are getting some family time.
My husband and I got married in Galena and had our rehearsal dinner at The Desoto House! It's become a second home to us throughout the years. There is a TON of history in Galena that you should look into. It's quite an amazing little town.
I visited Galena, back in the 60s. We toured the mines and picked up the "Galena " stones that was a shining iron ore if memory serves me correctly. Still have those stones in a coin purse 58 years later, then went to see the President Lincoln sites the next day. Excellent video, brought back many memories.
Love this video! ❤ I’ve been to Galena! My dad bought a beautiful necklace for me there at a little shop when I was a little girl. It is beautiful there. It’s fun to see Galena through the eyes of Woo!
Iowa native here, Galena & Dubuque are two of my favorite towns. A few places I recommend: Grab a burger at Paul’s Tavern in Dubuque - impressive taxidermy collection. Eat a Taco Pizza at Happy Joe’s In Dubuque- yes taco pizza is an Iowa cuisine & it’s fantastic. Effigy Mounds National Monument just north of Dubuque Amana Colonies just west of Cedar Rapids And if you’re able to I can’t recommend enough the House on the Rock west of Madison, WI - one of the most unique attractions I’ve ever experienced. Loving these videos & seeing you explore the heartland!
Another great video Adam! I know it’s a lot of work and your family is a such great sport. Much gratitude to the whole Woo fambly [sic]. I’m such a mid to late 19th century history nerd.
Again you bring back happy memories of trips I took with my beautiful mom. We toured Grant's house, an old church up on a steep hill and tasted fantastic cherry wine at a winery. It still looks the same as when we were there back in the early 80s. Thanks for the memories 💖
Galena is architecturally and topographically the most beautiful town in Illinois and one of the most beautiful in the country. Galena was one of the hometowns of U.S. Grant and both the house Grant lived in before the Civil War and the one he lived in after the Civil War are still standing. Grant’s post Civil War house has been preserved by the state of Illinois and is open for tours. The house he lived in before the Civil War is privately owned and can be rented out as a guesthouse as can many of the other historic houses in town. There is an excellent U.S. Grant and local history museum in Galena. The DeSoto House Hotel, even though it was renovated and modernized in the 1980s, is still fascinating as the oldest operating hotel in Illinois. I appreciate that non-guests are allowed to explore the DeSoto House Hotel, which I have done myself. I like to make the 5 hour drive from where I live in Southern Illinois near St. Louis to Galena every October when the fall foliage and weather are nice.
I’ve been here myself, but if you believe this represents some of the pinnacle of beautiful towns in the whole US, I have to assume you’ve never visited certain famous GA & SC towns, for example
What an arbitrary and good video covering a whole bunch'o'different things. Had no idea about these FOD filming sites. Grant's house is painted the same as Lincoln's. Springfield, yeah, that's where you need to. Peru and Carus across from the Westclox Factory, Sometimes there are a couple of ways to get more out of faded advertisements like waiting for a rainy day or try things like UV or Polarizing filters or Photoshop.
Sooo cool that you can travel n hang out with your family!!! That is sooo fun!! My 2 sisters n I do that now that our brother Ken died 3 yrs ago in October. We used to go to his house in Dearborn, Michigan cuz he owned the family house we grew up in but after his demise we started the travelling sisters club n the three of us n our two nieces all get together n travel n hang out throughout Michigan every August for the past 2 yrs n I look forward to it ever so!!! Being with your family makes it much more enjoyable than by yourself!!! Wish someone would vlog Michigan's MANY travel places like Frankenmuth, Mackinaw Island n Mackinaw City, N all the little roadside attractions that are STILL thriving on the way up to these places, n that is just the Lower Peninsula!!! The Upper Peninsula across the Mackinaw Bridge is chock full of places to visit, like the glass bottom boat shipwreck tours on the Great Lakes, the Taquemenon Falls in both Upper n Lower Peninsulas, the Bishop Baraga Shrine, the Copper Mines, to just name a few!!! The small towns are everywhere!!!
I'm a Civil War nerd, so this vid is up my alley. Ulysses S. Grant's home is something I'd like to visit, and the DeSoto. I've seen explorations of Galena before, but thanks for yours 👍
This was fun! Thanks for taking us along. I live 3 hours East of Galena, but haven't been since I was a kid, so I didn't process the historical significance (watch Manhunt if you like Abe Lincoln history). Also, I love the Field of Dreams. I've been to the field, but didn't realize where the other filming locations were. If you get to Chicago, don't forget to take the architecture tour along the Chicago River and try some deep dish pizza or a Chicago hot dog. Thanks again!
Just read a biography of Grant and they talked about galena. It would be tough for me to get there so it was great to see it. Thanks adam! The amount I've learned through Adam's travels and Wikipedia is amazing
I drove through Galena with my brother on our way to Iowa from Chicago for an art festival several years ago. We stopped and did a little shopping. It was nice! Great memories. Thanks again, Adam, for another fun video!
I’ve been to Galena several times but never visited the DeSoto House. After seeing this video, we booked a stay in the Lincoln room for this summer. Thanks Adam!
Hi Adam, love this video & it brings back memories of living in Cedar Rapids & then going to Galena for a quick day trip. If you get a chance swing by Brandon, Iowa and see the world's largest cast iron frying pan. And you've been pronouncing Galena correctly.
We recently had a corporate retreat at the Eagle Ridge resort in Galena IL…such a nice place…..Adam it feels like either I’m following you around the USA or the reverse😀.
I visited that place once, I was attending a training class and only had one short afternoon to get over there, went to see the house that was given to Gen Grant, I did not get to see all of the other stuff, thanks for the tour ! I did go into the house and it was pretty cool, the thing I really like was the photo taken of him out on that front porch
When I heard you say you were in Dubuque I perked right up. My daughter is a traveling nurse and right now based at John Deere. Great job you did today.
The small towns are the best....we travel across country a lot...we've been in many of these tiny towns...never thought to do a channel about them...probably would be fun! Thanks for the adventures Adam❤
Adam, really enjoyed your video! Beautiful old town and buildings! That's cool that you got to see the room the president stayed in! Looking forward to your next vlog.
Hope you guys are keeping an eye on the weather! Tuesday they are predicting strong storms, large hail and possibly tornados! From an eastern Iowa viewer! Love your Iowa,Illinois videos!
I believe this is my favorite "on the road" series of yours to date. Such an interesting and historic area. And, our daughter and son-in-law live in Dubuque. Our son-in-law recently acquired a pour-over coffee set up to make piping hot beverages, and they have a big porch to drink them on. Oh, and he has a copy of F.I.S.T.! Enjoy the area. Always good to have your mama in the videos.
I stayed at the air b&b that is directly across from the log cabin. It was stunningly beautiful, and amazing to have that view of the street. If you ever have the opportunity to stay there, please do!
I have field of dream in my DVD collection . My favorite part is when Earl Jones goes that's your finger .Kevin goes no it's a gun ,I not going to show you my gun 😂Great seeing the Woo family an hearing the birdies chirping ,means spring 🌼🌱 i love small towns like this to visit unfortunately I probably would get bored after a while living in it
I am from Chicago Illinois and you are reminding me of of my 8th grade field trip in 1978. Debubic Iowa, Glenn Illinois .Grants house, Grants staircase.Even a old paddle boat ride. My older sister chaperone the field trip.
What a lovely town and back story to the movie. Adam just watched you and your bud from Just stop Vlogging at the Enchanted Forest. His old footage showed you guys running from a supposed 🐻 🦊 😅 brilliant. You guys should get together more 😊
I love stallone movies, and never heard of F.I.S.T. until these videos. Finding an english version of the dvd online was a little tough, but I have one coming to me. Cant wait to watch it :)
I'm so happy you're in my state..but sad you're in Galena 2 weeks before we'll be there..anyways 14:22 you mention the horse we call him Jaun.. if you know you know
I also have a GREAT fondness for what you do amusingly call "Ghost signs" painted on the sides of historic old town buildings at one time, n left EXACTLY as they once were for us to enjoy n try n figure out what they say!!! This town of Galena, Illinois is AWESOME!!! Sooo full of history sooo well preserved n documented!! Excellent video subject!!
Love that you are in my state Adam: Would love to see you come to Woodstock Illinois and do a video of where they shot Groundhog Day--and a really short scene from Planes Trains and Autos.

Doing a lot of small town stuff this week. Much needed
U said it right because there is a Galena KS in southeast Kansas close to Joplin Missouri
If ever in these areas, I know where to go now, thank you brother!
Melinda Dillon was also in FIST.
The old movie theater was a wax museum in the late 70s, early 80s.
Finally, Adam is following in my footsteps, instead of the other way around...lol.
Australian here…..Visited Galena in 2018, beautiful town.
I have watched you for I don’t even know how many years because I’ve lost track - but you always will be my favorite. fits my perfect amount of relaxation and information. You will forever live on as a RUclips icon.
Very peaceful. Enjoy your time with your family. We love Mama Woo!!

What an incredible tour. I loved it, you’re the best! Thank you
Loving this trip. My grandparents used to live in a little old log cabin in Galena. Beautiful little town. Super pretty at Christmas.
I can imagine seeing it with snow would be beautiful
@@TheDailyWoo me and my girlfriend and our daughter have been to Galena
Always love when your family's involved. I miss your dad.
Is his dad ok?
@@JustinLaClair I would think so. I just enjoy his personality. He seems like a good man who raised a nice family.
