- “All of Me” is a jazz standard from 1931 recorded by multiple musicians including Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. This instrument is a Windsor mellophone (serial #34817) made in Elkhart, Indiana in the 1920s-1930s. It has been converted into a Don Elliott style jazz mellophone by Paul Abel of the Abel Brass Clinic in Rochester, NY. The backing track is from Jazzbacks and the custom mouthpiece by James R. New of Hurricane, UT combines a trombone cup and a mellophone shank.
Me who marches DCI as a mellophone:
Me who also now reeeeaaallllyyy wants a jazz mellophone now
❤
Trust me, if you spend all of your money on goofy instruments when you are young you will never have to worry about choosing a financial advisor when you are old. Some say this is a bad thing but you have a jazz mellophone and don't have to sit in some suits office. Hmmmm
Interesting horn, and interesting mouthpiece for the size of that instrument. Thanks for sharing!
What I love about these instruments is their warm mellow sound! Great perfomance! Thanks!
Okay, I never knew I needed one, but now I do.
I feel the same way
Wow! I’ve never seen one of those…great sound!! ❤
I gotta get me one of them!
Just out of curiosity, how much did this cost overall? Price of the mellophone and the labor combined. I’ve been looking into doing this recently
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing
He got 16k people to watch him play this goofy thing in his hallway. High fives all around. :) I love it.
My friend marches mellophone. I've never heard of this, though
This song is amazing your soo good at mellophone too 😭
Very neat I like
Wonderful job.
Great!
Really cool!. I’m a composition major and a brass musician-mainly trombone-I’m thinking about becoming a jazz mellophonist. Do you think using a marching mellophone could achieve the same approach?
I don't know why not. I actually just purchased a flugabone (marching trombone) to use with other jazz pieces.
@@tlbmusic I forgot those were even a thing. The Brass family really does get more complex after the primary 4. Thank you for replying back!
@@tlbmusicWhy a flugabone, rather than a normal trombone?
This is a mellophone, not a flagabone. @@outofstepbaritone
@@tlbmusic sorry I was asking why you bought a flugabone for jazz rather than a trombone
Does this mellophone use trumpet fingerings or French horn Bb trigger fingerings?
This instrument is in the key of E-flat so playing with trumpet fingerings in the key of C it sounds a minor 3rd higher in E-flat.
Technically, it sounds a major 6th lower in E-flat.
Très bon musicien.
@@tlbmusic I didnt ask about the key I asked about the fingerings!!! Someone else already told me its trumpet fingering
just watch what he's playing
Hi! Is this tune in the key of concert Db?
Yes, the mellophone is reading B-flat which is D-flat concert. This means I have to transpose most backing tracks to the key appropriate for the mellophone.
This is for sell? And there is an option to change it to The key of Bb?
No, it is not for sale. Key of E-flat is fixed.
where did you get the sheet music or did you play by ear? I would like a copy of the music if u have, thank you
Send an email to and I will send sheet music and accompaniment.
I just realized I sent you the wrong acc. trax. Send me another email and I will get the correct one to you ASAP.
Hi, is it possible to request a sheet music and backing? I’d like to try it on my Conn 16E, thanks 🙏
I've confused it with a trombone on 20's recordings.
'Mellophone' is what we called marching French horns, but this sounds like a somewhat constricted baritone. So, is 'mellophone' the wrong word to apply to marching French horns?
Yikes. I see why they didn't make too many more. Wonderful playing though! You're squeezing every drop of tone out of it
What’s wrong with it?
Yeah, I'm confused by this comment as well.
It has a fairly thin and lifeless tone that this player is pushing to the limit with his fantastic vibrato
@finscontingencyplan7005 OK I had a feeling that's what you meant. I can agree with that. It sounds lo fi, like a horn played from an old 30s record. Of course, his audio set up isn't the best either.
Mellow
Молодец !
