As she played unmuted/unmuted. I had the impression of one horn sounding, and a replying horn in the distance. One horn player doing the work of two. Symphony accountants will love this. Tremendous potential, musically and financially.
I wish I had enough money to customize a french horn. I can't even afford a decent factory double horn to play. Makes me wonder how many French Horn players out there never get the chance because of the cost of the instrument. Sorry, got on a tangent. I do love that you are experimenting and making new ways for composers to write. That is amazing.
+Kiley Willard As a Bari sax player I have run into the same type of thing. And some people would suggest just playing another type of sax.. but at least for me . I am way better at playing a bari then anything else. If I was never able to pick up a Bari at my school(so many years ago) I would never found out how good I could be. But when I tried to get one for myself .. I saw they were worth more then my car.
I just LOVE this! It is fantastic & inspirational to see instances and examples of creative innovation continuing with classical instruments that haven't seen much of that in the modern age...
AC PRODUCTIONS dude, not trying to be mean or anything, but have you played the horn??? i get music with high g,a,bb, and c (above the staff), and music with 4-5 fats OR SHARPS. try and play that for 3 minutes straight. French Horn aint easy, and if it is for you, your doing something wrong.
I randomly stumbled across this today whilst searching for something else, but I’m so glad I did! How thrilling to have your own totally unique horn, were I a horn player I’d love this level of creativity. Congrats to your and your builder!
Wow! A composers delight! I don't play the french horn, but it seems they have to provide the middle ground in the orchestra. This horn sounds amazing. Having to supply the dynamics of a trumpet then a woodwind makes a lot more sense. Not mention the wow factor of Fortepiano and Sforzando Piano! Bravo!
For those asking if there is any music for this instrument, Christine recorded a duet for double bell horn and piano in 2015 which you can buy from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Duo-Double-Bell-Horn-Piano/dp/B00YZ3099A (also on Spotify and iTunes, if you have those services) At one point, the Ensemble Musikfabrik she plays in did a concert for double bell trombone (!) and ensemble, where ALL brass players were required to use double belled instruments, so supposedly all of them - not just Christine - has had this sort of modification done to the instrument. However she took some time off during that project so a colleague Frank Lloyd filled in for her on what I presume is the same horn as in the video. www.exroyalmarinesbandsmen.net/FLloyddblhrn.htm There may have been more compositions in the past 6 years, but if the number of modified instruments are few and far between, it might mostly be one-offs. Ensemble Musikfabrik by the way has posted RUclips videos about double bell trumpet and double bell trombone too, so look those up if you like. When it comes to double bell euphonium, trumpet and even small tubas, it almost seems like standard practise so perhaps putting it on the French horn is what makes it special.
That is hilarious and cool at the same time. I played double horn for 12 years and want to start again. I like how this puts the fun and adventure into such a normally asture instrument.
This is so interesting!!!!! Im so glad there's genuely imaginative explorative people like you out there. Have fun with it and please share more so we can know about it. Congrats
This makes a lot of sense why you would do this, it adds a bunch of new effects and other things mentioned in this video, probably won't become a thing but still can be used in a great way!
Have you ever heard of the "Shew Horn"? It's a double bell trumpet played by Bobby Shew for fast mute changes. Play with us in the PWCB Coast Guard Picnic.
I would be concerned about the tension that would build in the horn when the bell is front facing and holding a large mute (say a bass trombone bucket mute). Maybe add some braces in a second version? (Though that would limit the speed in which one could shift bell direction) Or perhaps have a stand that would support the weight? All in all, this is really cool and I want to hear more!!
Seriously, if a good manufacturer was making their best Bb horn, would the bell be any different, size, taper, whatever, than the bell they would make for an F horn? Is the bell made for double horns a compromise ?
The standard french horn bell is not a design necessity - it's as much tradition as anything else. Beyond a certain point, excess diameter on a bell is just for looks. Take a look at a mellophone - the bell is for show, not sound.
"That will allow me to trill quickly between the bells."
Now there is a phrase I never thought I'd hear!
Austin Benesh , Ha!!!!
If there's a joke here, then I evidently missed it. r/Whoosh myself?

First thought.... Dr. Seuss would be proud.
Nanda Rox I LITERALLY JUST COMMENTED THIS!!!
The Drangler Haha! Looks like Hinkle Horn! Glad I'm not the only one.
Nanda Rox Do you play any instruments?
The Drangler Mostly woodwinds and the mandolin.
Nanda Rox That's really cool, I play the flute for marching season and the tuba for concert season. (At home I practice guitar, violin, and keyboard.)
Just for the sake of aesthetics (and the pun), someone should make a 3 belled horn and call it Cerberus.
Lol
Added to my bucket list
.
R0bilicious how about 4 and call it quads
How bout six and call it pecs?
I wish I had enough money to customize a french horn. I can't even afford a decent factory double horn to play.

do you play the french horn
Me? I do yes.
If you aren't asking me... you never saw this :P
+Kiley Willard I was askingyou I play thefrenchhornto
You think horns have it bad? Try buying a contrabassoon! 😢
I just LOVE this!
It is fantastic & inspirational to see instances and examples of creative innovation continuing with classical instruments that haven't seen much of that in the modern age...
Ridiculous. Now get a case for it.
roy childs true😂😂
SKF will make one if you ask.
should find a way to play two separate notes from each bell so you can harmonise with yourself.
that's what I thought
Fynn McMullen half valved effects just got crazier. If it weren’t in the same key it would be possible
Fynn McMullen ...good idea
Roland kirk
The horn doesn't really work this way. The vibrating medium is the lips, so if you wanted to do this you'd need two sets of lips.
as if a normal F.horn wasn't hard enough to play
Right!!!
French horns are easy

Jorge Orozco I Do Infact Own A French Horn And Its Quite Easy To Play If You Practice. :)
AC PRODUCTIONS how long have you been playing??

plus it can be used terrify the rest of the orchestra

Absolutely magnificent! What a joy that such craftmanship to create such and instrument exists, along with the ebullient curiosity to play it!
It has a beautiful clear sound.
It is so awesome to see someone so passionate about what love and then they think way outside the box and create wonderful things.
Well Done!!
It looks like something out of a Dr. Seuss book.
that was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!
great sound
Amazing. The difference in tones are very discernable.
such amazing tone quality
With two microphones, you could do some seriously intense stereo pingpong effects :)
Yay even more spit
Nikka Harris are you gay
someone at my school shook their horn and it sounded like a metal water bottle
Téry Saxo yep .-.
Behold! She hath Created, The Dr. Seussaphone! xD

FOOOR YOOOOOOU TOOOO. DON'T FORGET ME, I BEEEEEGGGGG I'LL REMEEEMEEERR YOU SAIDDDD -Adele
+Raddude SOMETIMES IT LASTS TO LOVE, BUT SOMETIMES IT HURTS INSTEAAAAAAAD.
Wow ... What a pretty, intelligent lady.... and a musician ..... very nice !!!
That is hilarious and cool at the same time. I played double horn for 12 years and want to start again. I like how this puts the fun and adventure into such a normally asture instrument.
Asture?
mano a mano I think she meant austere.
Paul J thanks for the correction. I didn't catch the misspelling. I hate when that happens.
This is so interesting!!!!! Im so glad there's genuely imaginative explorative people like you out there. Have fun with it and please share more so we can know about it. Congrats
nice instrument. I myself have developed a double bell trumpet. it all started with the fascination with the echo bell.
Play at 5:27
SherpTRK thanks
Thanks dawg
Those colors sound great
Pretty sure I saw that horn in a Dr. Seuss book.
As both a French Horn player and a bass trombone player I love this and must have one when I can afford it
that is an amazing piece of art too!
It's beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 🎶
Christie, your mother would be so proud of you, designing a new instrument, WOW
Was all this done in by one man!
The lady has a good grasp of technical things.
For me this is perfection!
Thanks for the video.
That's bonkers! I love it!
It’s the awesome-sounding SEUSS-aphone!
Gary Kuo ....
Gary Kuo it's a French horn
I like the joke but its not a sousaphone

This is incredible.
Wowwwwwww 👏! Very Very good!! Brasil, Rio de Janeiro!!
The creative mind knows no limits!
Very interesting look and sound!
Congratulations... The most important aspect is sound and it is very good...
Very cool. Very creative idea!
You are a great machinist.
AMAZING! I love this more than I can say. AWESOME.
I'm not a horn player, or a brass player in any manner, but this looks so interesting. The sounds are amazing!
This makes a lot of sense why you would do this, it adds a bunch of new effects and other things mentioned in this video, probably won't become a thing but still can be used in a great way!
I've seen double-bell horns at the National Music Museum in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Is there anywhere I can find a recording of this horn being played?
私の脳みそでは何を言ってるのか分かりませんがとても落ち着く音でした
Next step is to make this thing steam powered! Love it.
From someone who can only play the fool, thank you ! !
Have you ever heard of the "Shew Horn"? It's a double bell trumpet played by Bobby Shew for fast mute changes. Play with us in the PWCB Coast Guard Picnic.
I want to join you Christine,I'm in South Africa
That was so cool sounding.
Amazing horn. She's amazing too!
hey! do you know my trippelbell LAOKOONHORN already?
Excellent!!

Usually, when you play the horn, must place your right hand inside, but in this case, with two horn bells , how do you do?
Regards from Argentina
I want one! But in trumpet form.

Great concept! Brilliant!! Congrats!!!
That's a trip! :-)
That guy must amazingly patient, if he made every part.
One criticism: show first, explain later.
05:28 - how hard was that?
You are one crazy lady..... That is so neat! (and yes, it does look like something out of a Dr. Seuss book). I want to write for that sucker.
Vous êtes géniale. Laurence
quarter and eighth tones are accessable from embouchure changes...
Very unusual. Two horns in one, extraordinary.
Beautiful horn!
what a fantastic double horn :-)
this looks amazing!
Love the sound! wish i had a set of samples for this instrument...
I want one!! (And I'm a terrible brass player.)
Can you play two notes at the same time on this horn?
Так здорово, красиво и изобретательно. Жаль, что у нас в России никогда такого не будет.
I wish i could purchase one
THAT. IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
That is pretty crazy. I played horn in school and would be interested to mess around with that one.
That's a funny horn, never seen anything like that before.😀
That sounded like two french horns playing in close harmony.
She found the cheat code to French Horn awesome!
can't find additional videos on this subject. what happened to that horn?

Would love to hear a jazz solo on this.
