I hope you found this video where I explain precisely why you might still be overweight on a plant-based diet. Of course, in many of the cases someone is not losing weight on a plant-based diet, it comes down to inconsistency. But if you are being consistent right now, reason why you’re not losing weight is likely just down to calories. Which, for some reason, don’t get talked about a great deal in the plant-based nutrition community it seems! Anyway, I hope this info was helpful. I’ll see you in the next video on the Fit with Ryan Adams RUclips channel.

I started a WFPB diet at 394#. Prior to doing WFPB, I had lost 201# in just over 2 years and I typically ate 1200-1400 cals/day. On a WFPB diet I ate a daily average of 1700 calories... and I gained 10# in a single week. I keep hearing you say it’s all about “being in a calorie deficit”. At 394#, calculators say my BMR is 2648. I have also been doing 15-30 minute walks 2-3x a week so my calories burned are far more than 1700 per day. So, how did I gain weight?

I’m not entirely clear on what you’re asking. But nutrition tracking software cannot precisely tell your what your BMR is anyway. It doesn’t know your metabolic rate. You find the precise point through testing. There’s also an argument here that you increased the calories too quickly. From 12-1400 to 1700…as opposed to steadily building up. Also worth saying, that 10 pounds gain will not entirely be fat.

I understand calorie density pretty good. It’s so easy to buy processed food because it has 0 prep time. But if I make something like a whole plant based red lentil curry I can’t stop myself from overportioning.

A couple of points here to try and assist:
      1) “I can’t stop myself from overportioning” - of course you can, but presumably you just find insatiable. The advice on this would be: try adding more veg on side, fill up on that so you put a cap on the curry component OR you could just make the given amount for 1 serving only - bit annoying for meal prep purposes I know
      2) If solutions in step 1 don’t help, as annoying as this would be, removing foods/meals that you struggle to control portions of might be necessary solution for a little while

Thanks so much for showing us the visuals of what the calories are. It is hard for me to imagine in my head what it looks like so I really appreciate that!

Excellent visual representation of the calorie density foods… do you own a food scale? I was thinking about getting one, at least for the beginning when I’m trying to gauge the volume of different foods.

@@fitwithryanadams great; I will. I asked you a while back if you own an air fryer or pressure cooker and you were kind enough to answer that you don’t, and I didn’t invest in one, but I’m finding hard to figure out how many pounds of non-starchy vegetables I’m eating daily (I want to have at least two pounds of those before I move on to the rest of my meals), so I started looking for one on Amazon.
Would you mind sharing with me a couple of brands that you trust, please? Thanks

This is what we need to see the calorie density of foods so we know what is best to eat.

I'm in the US in PA and I prefer grams ... my food scale measures in both but grams is easier as you just have to deal with one number
