Thank you for sharing this. I’d love to see a video on a creation or reworking compression on a track. Showing how, why in detail and in what order to use the compression the full price so that we can apply that in our productions. Knowing how much threshold etc and what this does will massively help a lot of people.
Great video. May I ask "why" in the side chain would you want to to have lows or highs trigger the compressor in the internal side chain? You showed the eq and explained it eloquently but I don't know why you'd want this. Thanks Sam. Also, is there any way this can sound like a Fairchild? (Not into rock music). Thanks so much. J.
That's very helpful. Thx for sharing. I only didn't understand "totally" the sidechain part. It could have been told more widely. Interestingly, I understood better the external than the internal one. Ahahaha. But probably I'll figure out w practicing, at least I have an idea what it can be. Also in the stereo link section I didn't see any difference on the levels, so what was I supposed to give attention?
11:55 the threshold does not determine the amount of compression, that's the job of the ratio. the threshold determines from when on the compressor starts to react.
How does the Pro C2 compare to analog emulation plugins (such as the 1176, LA2A, SSL Bus Comp, or Fairchild 670)? Do those other types of compressors do something that the Pro C2 can't (other than adding the analog color of that compressor)? I have some emulations from Native Instruments (which are the 1176, LA2A, SSL Bus Comp, DBX 160, and Manley Vari Mu), but at the moment I can't hear a difference. Maybe that's because I haven't been mixing for very long (a couple of months now). But I fully understand and can hear what the compression is doing to the audio.
those plugins do just that, emulate hardware compressors, taking into account how the hardware versions apply color to the sound and how they compress. The Pro-C2 is a modern style compressor, that has "style" options which could get you similar sounds to those hardware versions but also has more functions you wouldn't get from the hardware compressors (like all of the mid/side sidechaining and filtering options)
Thanks for the tutorial. I don't understand one thing, though: Why are the stereo link options "hidden" under the side chain menu? I'd assume the stereo link options are always relevant, whether you're sidechaining or not.
Many compressors don't have the option to "unlink" the left and right channel. They are linked by default. So maybe bc it's like an "advanced" feature? Idk really...
hmm idk , you have to keep the sidechain menu open otherwise if you close it, then you will turn off the sidechain. You also need to make sure you selected external and not internal as the sidechain.
@@samsmyers thank you so much for your response :) i found out the reason, its because i didnt turned off the kick while trying to listen to the filters effect, so i still heard the kick normaly while trying. thanks anyway, great video!!
hi, Im a edm producer. It is always gona be my question while looking for a good digital compressor plugin. Is the compressor precise or fast enough for like a side chain purpose, any pumping affect purpose......?
I don't what is happening in my case, but to me this plugin is just g%rbage - it turns my audio into a mess and creates SPIKES out of nowhere. So instead of compressing the way i set it, it makes random parts louder than the original signal, which makes no sense at all.
The hold delays the release, it doesn’t prolong it. Also saying “I can adjust the knee to be all the hard…so we have a very hard knee” come on man 😂 how is that helpful?
I've watched a lot of videos of this compressor, but that 14 minutes made me understand everything. Thank you
One of the best videos about explaining a plugin. You didn't bypass anything. Congrats!
☺️
@IncandescentThe3rdno cause this video talks about Pro-C 2 compressor
@IncandescentThe3rdthis fucking video talks ONLY about PRO-C 2 COMPRESSOR ONLY ONLY ONLY dumbass

Solid videos. Easy terminology. Straight forward, and just enough example to understand application without confusion!
Thanks man. You're a natural teacher.
thanks!

I love this compressor. It sounds like it can't do no wrong
Brilliant video, this is quickly becoming my go to compressor for everything just about, it is the best imo and I’ve tried a lot over the years
Great to hear! I've been using it a lot more as well
dope tutorial, i really needed to watch this
glad it helped!
Nice explanatory video. Good for someone new to fab filter and also someone not so new but just trying to get better at mixing.
I really like the way you explain things.
Thank You!

The best compressor I’ve ever used
it's great!
Brilliant. Thanks!
brilliant tutorial well done sir
How can you make an external signal run through the EQ as well? I want the Kick sidechain the Bus only in Lows.

Hi! Great tutorial! Please do as well for FF Pro-MB and Pro-G!

Your knowledge is Huge Thumbs Up Dear Subscribed!
thanks!

Love your content Sam 💗
Thank you!!
This Is Very Useful. Thanx.
Peace, From Gabon!
Glad it was helpful!
@@samsmyers Yes It is. Thanx again.
Stay Safe And Blessed.
so if i want to compress only the mid but no sides at all, which knob should i turn to?
Very good tutorial bro
Thank you so much 😀
thank you great videos
What will happen if you turn down or raise up the frequencies by a bell in that eq section?
Thanks a lot! This is what i'm looking for. Btw, can you make a video about vocal recording with only fabfilter pluggins from a to z?
Great content!
thank you!
instant sub
Great tut thank you

for some reason when i tried to do the "isolate the kick part" in the side chain, the filter didnt seem to work, any idea why?

hi, Im a edm producer.
It is always gona be my question while looking for a good digital compressor plugin. Is the compressor precise or fast enough for like a side chain purpose, any pumping affect purpose......?
Other than that, do you have a personal favorite compressor( precisest and accurate one)?
Yes, this works great for sidechaining. For other uses, I like to use the VC-76 by Native Instruments, but not for sidechaining.
can this be used for live vocals/guitars?
yes!
Good

Is this better than logic default plug ins. Has similar functions.
Hi! It's been awhile since I've used Logic. Not sure if fabfilter is better.
was hoping i was the lucky 5k subscriber 😭
3 for 3!!!🤦🏾♂️🔥🔥😂

Nope hold is not affecting only relese
Also affecting attack
Too robotic seems like you never use it becausr you cant comment EXPERIENCE wise options
