sam smyers never disappoints!!!!!
let's gooo!
Good style👌👏👌👏❤
Great tutorial 💚
Thank you! Cheers!
fun fact, you don't need to input the negative symbol on output knob. Fab filter made it this was seeing as the only direction the knob can go is down. Just to save an extra key-press!
thanks!
This is why I always go through comment section!! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing mate! =)
No problem 👍
Great content!
thank you!
much appreciated ..
4:06 Normaly when you have channels linked is more for mono and when you like and want to preserve the stereo image that you gave but sometimes there are things that are really paned and you can have something that is too loud in one channel but the limiter if it's 100% linked willl turn down the same amount for bouth channels making the other channel that was not as loud really quiet, and this can heppen in the transients or in the sustained parts ''thats why there is the release linking that it affects the things that pass through the release stage of the limiter ''in short, the things that are beeing compresed in the release stage''. So if yo have the case that you have things reallly hard or nearly hard panned to one channel and you don't want this voolume change you can unlink them a bit like 65-80% to preserve a little bit of the volume. that's why the transient stage is a bit turned down.
Sorry im not native english i hope everything is more understandable
thanks!
now i am in a good mood
thanks
Very Very clear my homeslice
Thanks
Que increíble, saludos desde México.🔥🙏
gracias!
Awesome vid :)
Thanks! 😁

Hello, great tutorial. What would you recommend as a ball park figure to aim for with gain reduction? Anything below -3.5 or just above? Plus i cannot seem to get the LUFs to meet the level I want by using the gain slider, should i go back to the mix and sort the there?
Very helpful
Glad it helped!
Thanku so much
Butimy celing is -0.3 or -1
Should I use oversampling too at same time
Plzz m confused
"Oversampling and celing both reduced the peaks "
Hope u get my point plez guide me
Stumbled upon your video because I was looking for a "remove gain from the plugin feature (the 1:1 button that you are explaining ~8:05) Thanks!
Great!
When I run professional songs through the Pro L2 there is zero redlining up top, yet the master is loud and hitting between -5 and -8 LUFS. Are you able to explain how they achieve this?
May God shower His blessing on you and your family.
thx
🔥
hai sam smyers what is sample that song you play one shot vox ( Hey ) what name that pack you get?
What version is this? I have v1.0 and it's different.
Great job !!! Thanks
Question: Some say we should set the Output to neg 1 (-1.0) and others say neg.1 (-0.1) for Mastering level...which is correct (and why if you would).
Thanks again, Steve
thanks! You would set your output to less than 0db to make sure that you aren't going above 0db true peak which may cause distortion when your digital signal is played through speakers (analogue signal). Because with the Pro-L2 you can activate the true peak limiting, that means that the limiter will make sure that you won't go above 0db true peak. Some limiters don't have the true peak limiting option and that is why you would lower the output more to something like -1db. With a true peak limiter you don't have to lower the output to lower than 0db, but I sometimes do like -0.1 just in case. You can use something like a Youlean Loudness meter to see whether you are going above 0db true peak and use that to determine what level to set your output at.
Got it !!
Fab Filter is such an awesome company !!
Talk about the best of the best !!
Thanks again 😊✌️🎶
@@samsmyers Not quite true, especially when master for streaming platforms. Most streaming platform like Spotify, RUclips, SoundCloud, etc. require a true peak level of -1 dBTP (not 0 dBTP) for all uploaded files. Be very careful when mastering music for those platforms.
Great video! I have a question. When I have finished adjusting the limiters gain slider with unity gain on, do I turn off unity gain and then adjust my output volume?
yes you should turn off the unity gain button before you export. You might not need to adjust your output volume, but I'm maybe confused on that part of the question?
@@samsmyers at the end of your video you talked about how depending on where your exports destination will go will influence how you adjust your output for the designated LUFS
Fab filter owe you some money bro!🤦🏾♂️Your videos way better than theirs
haha thanks!
Hi Sam, thanks for the great tutorial! I didn't get one thing though: the 1:1 setting on the output, how is this setting useful and what for is it 🤔? @ 8:04 and does that affect the output signal 🤔
thanks! when you increase the gain on the limiter, it makes your song louder. The 1:1 doesn't make your song louder. It is a "gain match" so it doesn't increase your gain. This is useful to see what the limiter is doing to your sound, and can help you hear what is distorting (if anything)
@@samsmyers thanks man, now I got it 👍
when will i stop confusing the waves l2 and the fabfilter l2 haha
thinks
@Sam Smyers:
Great video!
Question:
I don't see the ISP button.
I know that the previous version had it.
Did FabFilter remove it?
hmm I'm not sure...what does the ISP button do?
@@samsmyers
ISP (Inter-Sample Peaks) protection prevents unwanted distortions caused by the D/A conversion.
Most high-end limiters have it.
@@Crossfire2003 oh its the "True Peak Limiting" button at the bottom
@@samsmyers
OK.
Did you release the song? Man thats lit!
Yea! check it out on Spotify
What about the loss of quality of the red signals caused by limiting?
I guess it depends on what you mean by loss of quality?
Cant you adjudant The ceiling? Just like in fl studios limiter?
Yes! It's the output on the bottom right hand corner of the plugin
can i use the fabfilter limiter WHILE recording?
yea!
Please read documentation regarding attack and release this is not compressor..
Thought the sidechain button was the Heisenberg button.😂
I like your 40:1 Hater Ratio on here. Seems like you have your threshold just about right. Keep up the great work. Great video
Yes! Thank you!
An even better 55:1 ratio at the moment, congratz!
what a shitty plugin, i can't move the ceiling easily when i want to limit quieter vocals (or anything at all)
or rather i can't move down the threshold and ceiling at the same time
edit: nevermind there's 1:1 button on out, still tho kinda annoying
The goddamn "output level" actually changes the overall volume of the sound... I didn't know that until today and it fucking PISSES me off. So if you want to use this thing to catch peaks on something at -9 bd or so... IT CAN'T... it will just turn down the volume of the whole track 9db so not only will you never hit -9 db.... the quietest part will be 9 db quieter as well... WTF ???????
Yeah bro thts why you should be v careful with limiters
love this bro
thanks! did it help?
@@samsmyers yes , I think if you could help me understand attack and release and look ahead for trap/ drill
Hip hop: that’s what I produce. Maybe I could send u a version of my beat with me running it thru l2, and then send u the beat without it and yoh could sauce it ur way and then we could see a comparison and Ylu could
Help me understand V ? Would gladly pay for such a favor!! Ty, subbed
