What happens when you use heavier lure than lines? Or heavier lines but lighter lures? We're you using the leader? I under stand that you are supposed to match the fly line weight as same as the rod weight, but what about the leader weight? What's rule of thumb in general?
That's alot, ok so heavy line can throw anything but may not present smaller things gracefully. The larger the fly the more wind resistance the harder it is for the line to actually move the bait. As for leader it really doesn't matter that much aside from again presentation and price you don't need crazy heavy for something light and the knot may slip easier with heavier leader
4wt is a little light mainly because you want to turn over big flies. Some scenarios 5wt is enough but a 7wt would be enough if you aren’t throwing massive heavy flies.
I see you are an experienced fisherman but one thing I see a lot of is fisherman bouncing fish on the shore or on their boats. this can cause the fish to become more susceptible to disease and parasites due to the outside layers of slime being scraped off or damage done by debris. The outside layers of slime on fish is actually a large part of their immune system and damaging these layers again can open the fish up to illness among other dangers. Once I learned this I began lipping my fish, using soft catch and release nets or holding them from below. Obviously this can't always be achieved but I try to give this information out so when possible, fisherman will do their best to keep from harming the layers of slime on their catch. thanks for listening and for your awesome content.
Love it!! We need more bass on the fly in the RUclips space.
We can make that happen!
I always learn something watching slab videos. Great stuff guys
Glad to hear it Mike! We’ve got a sweet fly fishing giveaway coming soon.
@@SlabDynasty hell yeah I'll be in that for sure as long as it's just RUclips I don't do Facebook lol
there is only a few good fly fishing yt channels and this is a very giod one😎
Thank you!!
Amazing video!
Really thinking about diving into fly fishing for smallies and trout totally new to this method of fishing..
Honestly we are relatively new to it as well. It’s definitely a fun and challenging change of pace from conventional tackle.
Where’d you get that hoodie it’s sick
I've always wanted to try flies for bass now that I got a BFS reel I'll be able to throw them on a Baitcaster !!
I always use an 8 weight for bass so i can throw big flies without issues. Honestly gotta give you props for tossing massive flies with 4wt line
Yeah probably not the best choice but sometimes you have to work with what you have 😂
@@SlabDynasty I respect the hustle lol. Clearly the rig catches fish so maybe not the easiest but definitely effective in your hands

Wow what creek is this?
Im new to fly fishing, but did you say 4wt? For bass? I was told go 8wt for bass. Is that wrong?

When you're fishing big flies like that with heavy weights I wouldn't go any lower in diameter than 2x you'll save a lot of money
Definitely could’ve benefited from a thicker leader. Thanks for the input bro
Absolutely man. Keep the videos coming dude.
I can't say I've ever seen a spotted bass caught on a fly before.
They fight like crazy! It makes for a fun experience on the fly.
