  • Hi Scribes! Writing and rewriting a screenplay is messy, confusing, and frustrating when you don’t have a handy Producer, Director, or writing group giving you notes to make your story its best. For neurodivergents this may be a challengi by task riddled with starting and stopping many books to gelp their process.
For a long time, I struggled to really find a book so entertaining that I could get throught it. Until, I met another writer with a Masters in screenwriting who recommended a book called ‘Screenwriting is Rewriting.’ The book revolutionized how I write, rewrite, and analyze my own script. While I’ve never completely finished reading the book cover to cover. Ive realized the best part is-you don’t have to.

i gave the book a try and unfortunately i immediately noticed some issues with throwing around random rules so i gave it up. what made me finally give it up was them saying the main character needs to be redeemable, which i think they are ultimately mixing up with relatable. what about a clockwork orange, nightcrawler, American psycho, there will be blood

Sorry to hear that! It’s possible the author wrote for traditional character arcs solely for the ease of teaching. I typically get picky with books and use what I need from them. Like the questions in the book for major beats to double check my structure.
