@@cdgarcia dr. Brown introduced the pens and shared why he likes them. I only timestamped the writing samples that followed as they are when we get to see the pens in action and in closer detail.
The person the prophecy foretold! 😮
@@MrAgamble lmao, I am not in the position to support Dr. Brown on Patreon, but I figured I ought to do something nice for him given the season
@@MrAgamble xD
Thanks for a very well thought out video. Your YT channel was one of the first I found and started watching when I fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole. You asked what keeps you (the viewer) interested in fountain pens. I love having a large selection of pens inked but realized I couldn't use them all without some drying out. Then I decided to learn to draw this past summer. That has allowed me to use my many inked pens without some of them drying out. It actually makes using my pens even more enjoyable because I end up really appreciating a particular pen & ink combination and how it comes out on the paper. Hope that makes sense,
Dear Dr Brown
I am writing to complain about the content of your latest video. Contrary to the promises implied in the title, there was not a single goat actually featured in the entire documentary presentation.
Sincerely
Major Hissy-Phitt
Hon. Sec., British Goat Fanciers Association.
Brb, need to put on my own Sunday best for this
I dig your story behind the Darth Vader pen. I bought the pen after your review some time ago. I saw Star Wars IV on opening day in July of 1977. I didn’t know the movie I bought the ticket for. I just wanted to get out of the summer heat. I stayed for two showings and been a fan since. May the force be with you, Doc.
@@pfridell8424 great story. You’ll like this pen. Hope you find one. I posted a video a while back.
My dad camped out for a week as a teenager to see Star Wars and it was May 25th for opening day. I have unopened Star Wars action figures from that weekend, so it’s mint condition and exclusive.
Thank you once more, Stephen. I always look forward to your GOATs and this year another excellent choice of beautiful pens. But the Majohn, my God, size dóes matter, you know.
Thanks for all the effort and time you take to bring us all the witty, well researched and informative topics. I’m looking forward to seeing your programs this coming year!
Thank you! I very much enjoyed hearing about your personal GOAT pens and their stories. I was well and truly surprised to see the bonus pen. I had been interested in this pen, however your initial review of it changed my mind. I am pleased to see how well it performs after rehab and am once again considering giving one a home.
Thank you for this video, it made for an entertaining watch! Take care and hope to see&hear more of you in 2023!
I really like your selection. My favorite pen for 2022 is the X159 Jinhao.
Brilliant video as per usual, outstanding Italian pronunciation as per usual, happy 2023 as per once in a lifetime! Take care)
Thanks for another installment of goats! That LB6 is stunning. Hope you have a happy new years celebration!
for me, the GOAT video of your previous GOAT videos.

The second pen is Cross Peerless Darth Vader
Min 6: Yard-O-Led silver sterling fountain pen. Work of art!
Love the jacket, bow tie, and content!
I suggest a second annual GOAT video, that being the top 10 pens you have reviewed, not just own.
Stephen, thank you for this video. I really enjoyed watching every second of it. I didn’t know that the Cross Peerless has a Sailor nib. Do they still have a Sailor nib? Anyways, have a great and healthy 2023! Cheers from the Netherlands
That Yard-O-Led is still my favourite. Happy New Year Dr Brown
I get how it might not include a Montblanc or a Pelikan, but leaving this XYZ pen he mentions leaving out is very interesting to me. But how can these be the GOAT pens of 2023 when it is 2022?
I have so many questions like where are the goats 🐐
I am also interested in the XYZ pen Dr. Brown mentions... when will we see a full review (with writing sample) of the XYZ?
@@cdgarcia I’m sure you are in the know. But for the benefit of a few newbies G.O.A.T. stands for greatest of all time. Just as mentioned at the top of the title. Hence your favorite pens.
Happy New Year, Stephen! Been a great fan and a subscriber for several years. I truly enjoy watching. Cheers!
I've watching your fountain pen videos all the way down from am a newbie.
I would like to say thank you with all my respect.
Thank you for keep making videos to sharing about fountain pens.
Wish you have a wonderful new year and keep sharing videos!
Happy New Year!
Love your videos) Happy new year!
We know it's serious business when the smoking jacket comes out 😁
Thank you for sharing your personal GOAT pens for 2022. I had to laugh seeing you in your smoking jacket and bow-tie. My favourites of course are the Lambrou pens with the diffusion bonded acrylic and your Yard-o-Led sterling work of art.
One pen I had missed seeing the review of was the Edison Collier Grand, which was made of a colour & translusence which reminded me of Amber. Very beautiful, even though I am not a fan of transluscent materials. I don't like being able to see the inner parts of a pen unless it's a clear demonstrator.
I bought a fountain pen for Christmas, which was a gift from my husband; a Tibaldi Bononia Ltd.ed. I am waiting for it and hope I am happy with it. As I always do, I forgot to buy the piston tool for it. So now I must find a Canadian online store to buy it, which is not an easy task. I wish you a Happy New Year with health and happiness throughout, sprinkled with moments of joy.
Hey Old Man! Brilliant I Say! I stayed with you through the whole video and found it interesting and informative. Great Job Ole Chop!👍
Dank je voor deze video. Ik moet altijd lachen als je tussen al de informatie die je in het Engels geeft, ineens in het Nederlands gaat tellen.
Very classy presentation with the smoking jacket and fire place! I absolutely love your humor! Get pen selections and that Conway Stewart is insane.
Loved the video, as always. Wishing you a Happy, Healthy & Safe 2023.
Thank you for all your hard work in 2022 Stephen - always entertaining - look forward to seeing you again in 2023.
Thank you Stephen for another brilliant video. I wish you all the very best for the new year.
Lovely and informative video, Doctor Brown, and thanks. I don't see what makes you ask for forgiveness so often, when it is your generosity, imagination, and discernment that brings your videos to us. Truly a gem in the crown of any week. Or year. Please continue.
happy new year, thank you for the wonderful 2022 reviews and waiting more in 2023
1. Thanks for showing us these fab pens and talking about them. Most I never see elsewhere.
2. I hope some day Conid sends you a Giraffe.
3. When using the verso, I turn the notebook upside down to keep the binding rings out from under my hand. Most simply accomplished by going all the way forward using only rectos, flipping and coming back with only rectos. Verso schmerso.
4. Happy New Year.
Thanks for the eye candy professor Brown! 🧐
Hi Doc, first my late but nevertheless best wishes for 2023!
I love the review. I can only agree with the Yard O Led, which remains in my rotation now for the last 10 years. I was a bit astonished that your Namiki Emperor didn't make it this year.
Cool that you mentioned the late Henry Simpole, his overlays are impressive and the man even more, I had the privilege to meet and discuss with him on Portobello Market years ago.
Thank you again for all the reviews and keep them coming!
Definitely enjoyed this video, your collection of pens are so nice. Happy New Year!
10/10 sassafrass, Happy New Year sbrebrown!
I really enjoyed this video, Stephen. A winning combination - personality and pens. Good to see one or two old favourites too. Thank you for all your videos in 2022 and a very happy New Year 😊
Enjoyed your GOAT video. Nice selection of unique pens. Glad to see Cross get some recognition, as they are an underrated brand, but some of their pens like the Townsend, Verve are great writers. That massive Conway Stewart looked awesome, loved seeing it posted, wow! I have the Yard O Led Viceroy Grand, and agree it is a wonderful writer. Thanks for the great review of pens!
Happy New Year & thank you for all your content.
love you, Stephen!
Great video Stephen, one of my favorites in the goat collection of videos, keep rockn in 2023 Stephen!! …. Jude
So let me see if I got this correct. These are your favorite (or most reached for) pens of this year🙂 Thanks for putting this together Stephen always fun to watch these. Wishing you all the best for the upcoming year.
I'm very surprised to see there are no visconti pens this year. Beautiful pens as always!!
Agreed. The Van Gogh would be on my list every year - perfect girth to balanced weight to nib size and performance ratio. But then, I only have about 100 pens to pick from :)
Happy New Year's 2023 to you, and look forward to many more GOAT! God bless us all
Great list
If you don’t mind sharing, I’m interested in why your Namiki Emperor didn’t make list
My Q1 also did not write out of the box. Super dry nib! But it takes Jowo nibs just fine. I did some research and found that the arthritis claim was: mere rumor! Created on FPN some 15 years ago. Jumbo girth pens were common novelties made in Japan since around the 30s. The Tombow Egg and Platinum Glamour are two more "modern" examples.
Thanks for the info!
Very nice video. Happy New Year Steven...
1)Montegrappa Extra Custom (Extra fine nib)
2)MontBlanc 149 (Fine nib)
3)Namiki Emperor (Black, With finemedium nib)
4)Pelikan M1000 (Fine nib)
5)TWSBI VAC 700R (Fine nib)
Based on nib performance, build quality and ink capacity
Thanks! Really enjoyed this review of your GOAT pens.
Greatest thumbnail of all time!
I am not sure if I am too much of a high school kid or if I know too little of Freud stuff. Maybe just a sad mixture of the two things. But someone is compensating something. I was silent until that baseball bat with silver overlay came to the screen. Poor jokes aside, I am glad I am back to the hobby after a two year break and this still entertains me SO MUCH!
Dr. Stephen - vielen lieben Dank für dieses Video!
Interesting stuff. The Yard O Led company has an interesting history. Their first product 200 years ago was a mechanical pencil that could hold 12 three inch leads. Hence, an aggregate yard of lead.
My first thought was a spyglass, which was called "the led" on sailing ships of old.
Reference: In Master and Commander, midshipman Hollum, asks for the glass by saying, "The led, if you please." The script spells it "lead," but I think "led" is an authentic spelling.
Happy new year Stephen !
It is a great overview of your G.O.A.T. for this year. I do have the Leonardo MZG Mosaico in Sand. I love the stacked resin and I also have an Elastic EF nib. I just inked it but I have found it to be great in the hand and the nib writes very well.
I like it when you talk about pens. And for those who don't... one can skip ahead in YT videos or fast-forward.
Thank you, Stephen, for this very interesting video.
I enjoyed it a lot, no matter low long it was.
I wish you a very nice and happy New Year.
GOAT fountain pen videos of 2022. This one makes the cut. 🔥😂⚡️
Love to hear that story (about each pen). No need to apologize
Thank you Stephen. I alway enjoy your videos.
This was one of your best videos yet.
Beautiful fountain pens, thank you for sharing. Regarding the Leonardo, is that a steel or gold flexible EF nib? Lovely line variation, whichever it is. I like practicing Spencerian with an oblique pen, but definitely not a daily carry. Maybe this one would do?
But why wasn't XYZ pen on the list? ROFL! Thank you for another wonderful video. I love you sense of humor. I have watched these videos for several years and they always give an interesting view into the mind of Dr. Brown. A fairly consistent mind at that. Someday I may have to by a yard-o-lead pen. I hope your 2023 is your best year ever. Cheers.
I love your sense of humor! Fantastic pens!
Thanks, a happy new year
OMG I loved your choices.... Such beautiful pens and of course I will never be able to buy but so glad you showed them off..... What's your address? lol
It is a truth universally acknowledged that they who are fond of ink pens must know how to knot a bowtie. Sirrah, it is a pleasure to see you not only keen on ink pens but also on sartorial propriety. Happy New Year.
Thanks for the year end review. Nicely done video. I miss his Lordship and hope he is enjoying some holiday crab salad.
Thanks! Hope it’s a great coming year, Professor! Hmmm. Take that in whatever fashion that you will.
Love the video great list !
Thank you for this Video. I ‘ve noticed the Diamine Inkvent 2022 on the background. Are you planning to review it? I would love to hear your opinion about it.
Just beautiful!
Love that sterling silver Yard O Led. Very cool retro vibe! I own a similar one (made in 2019, great wood box)…
I was all excited to jump down here and tell you why you are wrong for leaving out certain pens - but now I can't... Damn you SBRE Brown. Damn you.
Dude you’re cleaner than the board of health! Love the jacket. thanks for the video.
Thanks SBRE
Loving your countryfied English accent
And sense of humour sadly missing from many of our European brethren.
Some lovely pens.
Only just found your channel
In the last day or so.
Thanks! Enjoyed.
Terrific recap! Wonderful set of pens. The Conway Stewart Great Exhibition is the only one that seemed unusual as a pick. Never thought I’d ever be saying this to you, but I do think it would be an amazing pen in Shaquille O’Neil’s hand. It just didn’t look good in you hand. And balanced as it might be, physics tells me there’s SO much distance to reach the end of the barrel as it goes across the top of your hand, ya gotta feel it in some way. I don’t necessarily mean it would even be fatiguing, but odd feeling after writing a couple of pages….if that makes sense.
That LB5 is so big and bright red, you can see it from space! 😂
That’s a really lovely smoking jacket. I didn’t know you could even get those any more…
Hermosa colección. Gracias por compartir.
Gracias por un año más de revisiones y hasta el próximo año si Dios quiere.
Happy New Year!
how fun.. but first I must make my pot of coffee. thanks again SBREBROWN !!!
I showed up here because I instantly loved SBRE Brown based on a video swatch, only to learn that I’m “one of those people.” It can’t be helped. 🤦♀️😆🤷♀️
Hilarious introduction. The smoking jacket was a lovely touch of elegance to accompany a fine stable of pens.
Could you have used a plastic pipe that is used for blowing bubbles? That would have gone well with your smoking jacket. Have a happy new year.
What about your old Opera Master?
Greetings from México, great and profesional reviews....also fun
Are best brandy (cognac) recommendations coming? You know…Delamain with XYZ pen, No 6 nib in 1.1 Stub version. (Do I win anything…besides eternal gratitude…for watching the entire video?)
I like the pens roasting on the fire (in the background) 😅
Now I find it is the end of 2022 with this!
Fountain pens are such a personal expression. Is SBREBROWN ink available to purchase?
Yes, through vulpennen.nl
(Weirdly high-pitched Monty-Python-esque voice) But there’s no Bic!
I love your videos, Professor, but I have a mild complaint. I could wish for more light on your pens and more on yourself. In past years this was not a problem, but I have been away for several years and find your new (to me) studio a bit dark. Your content is excellent, and I will continue following you regardless.
Kanwrite (Kanpur writers) are nice writers
I am still sad about the lb8.. ordered 2 from Andy, and never received either one... 😭🤬
But there's no Pelikan!! LOL
... and worse than no Pelikan, there's no Montblanc Meisterstuck 149... sacrilege !!!
@@danielklopp7007 I must agree.
Darth Vader needs a blood red ink to symbolize the glow from his light Saber (the pen is mightier than the light Sabre)
