- We fix the interior, rebuild the seats and find a garden growing in the back. And then I give the Cruiser a well-deserved name. Be the first to binge-watch the entire series now.
This is the ongoing story of the selection, purchase, collection, long-distance run and mechanical restoration of a half-million-kms Toyota Land Cruiser.

4xOverland is the world's first global 4WD adventure off-road motoring channel. Established in 1996, it is hosted by well-known 4x4 writer, explorer and filmmaker, Andrew St Pierre White. AKA: ASPW.
Surprising how much dirt finds it's way in through holes in the floor.
I removed the rear seats from my Disco' and left the holes open temporarily, until I could get the carpet out and clean up the back properly.
After a couple of weeks I started to notice well-defined patches and streaks of dirt appearing on the back of the front seats and trim panels.
At first I thought it was just where muddy dogs had been touching the interior but it quickly became apparent (because the patches of dirt WERE so well-defined) that it was road-dirt getting in through the holes.
Ended-up buying a variety of short stainless bolts and used them to plug all the threaded holes in the floor and, for un-threaded holes, I fitted rivnuts and then tightened more stainless bolts into them.
I nicknamed my 80 Series Landcruiser "Snoopy". Purely because of the colour - white with black trims. Just like Snoopy.
Dont nickname it yet , he said that he will paint it
What a nice troopy! One day when I'm big...
Another great episdode with very helpfull information! Thanks Andrew and team
That 4.2 normal aspirated engine is definitely not the strongest nor the most economical engines but I believe the most reliable engine ever built.
Why not use duct tape to seal the holes? Way cheaper.
Exactly, duct tape is a simple solution.
Cheaper? How? This cost me almost nothing.
Do not use duct tape for anything. It eventually separates, so you have a glue tape, substance and paper… I prefer gaff tape.
I find my local breakers yard is the best place to get car seats for cheap money. A friend of my put leather seats from a 2018 kia sportage I to his 110 landy. Obviously the airbags don't work but who cares lol. Looks very outta place but he has comfort...
Thank you
At 1:55 bye guess is teal ocean. It looks to be able to carry an ocean size amount of cargo.
Lovely Ep
Nice like the troopy van ,70 series , wish we could get it in the U.S. all our wagons /s.u.v.. have 3 rows of leather , 2 sunroofs 2nd row ent screens and indpendt rear axle for a smooth ride and leg room for the 3rd row
we need some basic base model 4x4s S.U.V. Simple Utilitarian Versatile the size of a troopy or 70s series wagon ,LC300 with good payload
🎉
😅😅😮😢🎉🎉🎉🎉
Damn what a pleasant personality Paul Marsh is.
Lekker Andrew. Print some grommets in ABS to fill the holes.
This only had to last a few days. Not worth spending more time on filling the holes.
Nice build. You might want to try adding an AC to this Troopy build, something low profile like truma Saphir compact or others
Heavy. Expensive. Most of all, not necessary.
@@4xoverland On the other hand, it might revolutionize camping, because it will make the 4x4 vehicle all-season ready!
Naming our cars?
- Yes, my Jimny is named Nicole/Nicky/ - the daughter I never fathered.
Put used Volvo (V70, S60, S80 from ‘00 - ‘07) seats in, shouldn’t cost too much and are the best in the business.
What is the extra rubber seal for the back door? Is it replacing or in addition to the Toyota one?
I thought you might be calling it Checkers because your clue was checker plate. But Collin'der is way funnier!
Looks like a repaired dent done with a Spot Weld Dent Puller.
Is there an equivalent in South Africa to the Australian Ford Falcon XR6 seats that everybody here likes to swap into their old 4WDs? I have no idea about the legalities in Africa, but it would give you improved comfort without forking out Scheel-Mann money.
My understanding of the Legalities in Australia,...... If you change the Seats in a Vehicle to those of a different manufacturer or Modify its Mounts, an Engineering Certificate is Required for Both Insurance and Registration.
@@DMSVICAU It depends, if the seats or the mounts themselves are already certified for your vehicle, you don't need to get them engineered. So Scheel-Mann seats will already be certified for whatever vehicle you've purchased them for, so they're just a drop-in upgrade, and some companies make certified mounts that let you fit different seats.
But I was talking about for in Africa, where Andrew has this Landcruiser based.

Either way, you still need to notify your Insurance Company and your State’s Registration Authority (VicRoads) of the Modifications and they will you categorically what’s Required.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they have Toyota Camry seats over there.
Great video - did they not trust you with a impact driver to help remove all those bolts?
Where/when is the next installment/episode? I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms!
Lol😁🙏🏻🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
Nice video I like it❤.
Try 1982-1986 celica supra seats.
Maybe rename it to "Albert" .
"Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall," sang John Lennon, in the Beatles' "A Day in the Life".
I need those seats covers, how much are they and can be sent to Miami, USA?
Their speed holes, makes it faster.
I thought you might call it shit box
I call my little Japanese sedan a "shitbox", and I love it! (The car)
I love your videos.
Sadly on most long drives Toyota seats tend to give you a back ache - maybe due to the suspension or seat design?
All Landcruiser 70-series seats are very poor
I think Toyota seats are designed for Japanese people, who tend to be smaller/lighter/shorter than Westerners😅
I used to drive semi trucks back in the day (Mercedes-Benz/MAN), and when I drove a Toyota Hino a few years ago, the seating position was so bad I had to get physiotherapy for my upper back! The seat was too low for me, and that really really hurt😢😢
I have a 2.2 4Y 1986 model Hilux single cab 4x4 in still working condition. How can I make contact with Paul and Joubert to find out if they are willing to restore it for me?
Maybe Google the company...
I thought you were touring America
What next...???... A ring...???...
Andrew who is that geese having a go at you on utube ii thought his attitude was quite nasty .I guess he has never travelled in Australia keep up the good entertainment video s cheers john
I thought the name was going to be "torn trousers"
Oh, I thought you meant by the title you would admit that Toyota isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I have never said that. Or anything like it.
@4xoverland it was meant to be a joke. I like Toyotas, but I feel they are WAY over hyped in the US, more than they deserve.
@@1FiftyOverland
Jokes and feelings aside. This build is for an African tour. I wouldn't mess around with a Jeep or Ford or any other Tupperware type truck. In Africa the name Toyota is a hallowed one, because it comes down to reliability, capability and repairability. They're not overhyped, they are just the status quo.
@joepaine8911 🤣, My ford is far from a "Tupperware Vehicle"
@@1FiftyOverland hehe, no I’m sure it’s not (just watched your vids... nice!), but generally the Ford rangers and Jeeps over here don’t match up to the abuse and lack of mechanical sympathy they encounter this side.
The money pit.?
Depends on one's priorities I guess. Money is for spending. You can't take it with you.
@@4xoverlandno you cant take it with you but it can help pay for funeral expenses
I have a new name for it...."Pho-sail"..Huh? what do you think?
