another brilliant report, you have a truet gift of being able to inform without drama and negativity, which the BBC is all about nowadays. Keep up the good work
Hello Vicky , thank you for posting such sensitive and caring videos that captures the true impact to this beautiful island. We only returned from Skiathos on Friday night, so this is heartbreaking to see. We first came to Skiathos in 2004 and it’s a place that is very dear to our hearts, hence the sorrow we have when seeing the images. However, the collective spirit and kindness that that is shown by the residents will ensure this latest setback will be a distant memory in no time at all. Once again, thank for the videos and I wish you a safe journey home
Great first hand reporting showing the absolute devastation of the flooding. Thanks so much for posting and keeping us informed, so much better than any news coverage.
After this disaster, it sure is heartening to see how quickly the community is pulling itself together. Skiathos’ beauty is very much intact, albeit with some still hidden under the muck, but everyone appears to be doing their part. Thank you so much for the update, and I hope you can stay safe and enjoy the rest of your stay.
8:59 Thanks so much for your Skiathos videos. They’ve been really informative. We’re planning to travel there in about a week and they’ve been more helpful than some of the other information online. Hope the weather settles soon so the challenging task of recovery can continue. And also thanks for showing kindness to the cats. Hope the rest of your time there goes well.
thanks for your balanced and practical guide to how things are. It's amazing how the businesses manage to turn things round so quickly - I'm particularly thinking of Ergon, which yesterday was surrounded by a raging torrent, but somehow is now open!
Brilliant video full of empathy and good advice! We have been to Skiathos on 3 different holidays and absolutely love the place and the people. Really sad and shocking to see it under water...although the video suggests that people and businesses have bounced back, which is great to hear. Hope other areas of the island have bounced back as well as Skiathos Town.
Thank you so much for the informative update. We have Skiathian friends so it is good to know things are improving for them and for tourists. The level of endeavour shown by the people of Skiathian should be a marker for all of us. Thank you for looking after the cats.👍
Thanks for the kind comment 🤍 we have returned home now but are already looking at booking our next visit to the island! We’ve fallen in love with it, absolutely beautiful and can’t wait to see it recover fully👏
Thanks for the update, we left Skiathos on the 4th of August and it’s horrible to see what’s happened. All the best to you and all the people of Skiathos ❤
Thank you this was a really informative video, hope to see some more as things improve. Skiathians are a tough tight knit community, We wish them all the best and see you on our next visit (no 15)
2:06 Hi, I was so grateful to see your first video and now this one. We are 2 families that parked our cars in Skiathos and sailed to Skopelos on Sunday, and we are still stuck here.. I saw our cars in your video (up left, near the recycle bins) and they apparently look ok... If you pass by again tomorrow can you please give us a sign? Thank you so much
@@vickyandbailey5840there are 2 SUVs close to each other with Romanian plates, one burgundy red Volkswagen Touareg and a black BMV X5 M50d. Thank you very very much❤
We literally came home late Sunday night and can't believe how different the weather is. Seeing the comparison of the harbour now to when we were walking along eating ice cream the other day is crazy. If you end up at bus stop 16 by any chance can you check how Jimmy's Taverna is doing? We go there a lot and the owners have become friends, it's set down below road level so I hate to think how badly it's been affected. Thank you for feeding the cats!
My god,we have friends that live there,we heard about the floods but never thought it was on the scale we have seen in these videoslets hope there is no more heavy rain and the island makes a speedy recovery.
Hi Vicky, we should be leaving on Saturday 9th until Saturday 16th, do you think it's worth it? In what condition will the beaches and roads be? We will be without a car and I don't know if there will be buses.. thanks anyway for the updates, you are special
Was supposed to come out yesterday but flights still cancelled! ..Forecast to stay like this till next week Hope you get water sorted out but it looks like its going to take the rest of the year to clean up and get over all this mess unfortunately but I feel for the Cats and Dogs!..
Hi, it is raining and thundering now but it hasn’t flooded again where we are (can only speak for the town though not the rest of the island) it should break tonight with any luck but definitely pack a waterproof & safe travels!🤍
Hi, firstly I hope you are all safe, and what a horrible thing to happen to such a tight knit community. we are due to fly out on the 19th to stay at Troulos, do you think realistically it’s going to be ok for us to have a “normal “ Holliday?
Hi, thanks for commenting! The storm is due to leave in the next 24 hours and cleanup is well underway. I would think by the 19th things should have significantly improved. My advice is to ring your hotel and find out how they have been impacted - some have flooded and guests have evacuated but others are untouched. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants already back open, if I was in your position I would still come and the forecast is lovely for the following week - ‘calm after the storm’ 🤍
Firstly, thankfully most are safe, my heart breaks for the locals. Our flight was cancelled on the 6th and again on the 11th. Next available flight is the 13th. We really wanted to come to skiathos and skopelos. Would you advise booking elsewhere in Greece or do you think by next week the situation would be much improved? It’s really hard to get info from those there other than what the media is reporting.
Hi! By the 13th I would optimistically say you’ll be fine! Some pools might not be usable but you’re spoilt for choice with a great number of amazing beaches. Clean up won’t be easy but what’s been achieved in 24 hours is amazing. If you’re ok with some things not being 100% as they should be I’d absolutely recommend you still come - the forecast looks great for then too and more tourism will only support the local businesses, make sure you bring plenty of spending money! Biased but I prefer Skiathos to Skopelos, I don’t have enough data to post another video but on Friday night / Saturday once I’m back in the U.K. I will start posting the regular vlogs showing how beautiful it is in the sun!
@@jayfo3456 I have seen some small boats sailing and in a few days the conditions should have calmed enough. Some boat trips don’t go to the north side of the island at the best of times due to wind but you should be able to travel between Skiathos and Skopelos just fine after the 13th - obviously this is just my opinion but I hope it helps😊
Hi, thanks so much for the update video. Im due to go there Tuesday 12th, do you think its worth going and do you think everywhere will be cleaned etc? Stay safe and again thanks for the update, much appreciated.
Hi, of course. If you’re due to fly on the 12th I would advise ringing where you are due to stay - currently signal is down on the island but hopefully this will be back in the next 24 hours. Some hotels have been affected more than others but a lot of damage has fortunately been surface level and they are still operating well. The recovery they have already made is remarkable in my opinion and I think you’ll still be able to enjoy it - although some areas of the island might not be fully back on their feet. It is a very close community and they all work together 🤍 how long are you due to visit for?
@@vickyandbailey5840 2 weeks we are staying for at Skiathos Blu, it high up I believe. I have contacted them but no response yet. Thanks again for the reply and I think your videos are helping a lot of people so please keep giving updates and stay safe x
A few cell towers have been knocked out. Vodafone is not working. I luckily have Cosmote. Thatone seems to be working, although not steady. Indeed, if you want to pay at the airport and other places, make sure you have plenty of cash.

I just wonder why this lady can not stop smiling. Well, these floods are nothing to be smiling about. Unless, you suffer from a smiling problem and and you look happy all the time🤔
I’m sorry if you feel offended, I always talk through my teeth and mean no offence. I have tried to help as best as possible and keep a positive message for the island, the news is very negative and doesn’t help people who are looking to visit the island or the businesses who need tourists for their livelihoods. I love the island, if you look at any of my other videos I always smile when I speak 🤍
another brilliant report, you have a truet gift of being able to inform without drama and negativity, which the BBC is all about nowadays. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it, it was undeniably bad but there’s always a recovery which isn’t shown anywhere near as much!

For this many rain is damage very low. They can fix it in short time. Good people. Heads up.
